But that's what the conversation was about!

The right hand holds a banana. The left one holds a gun.

Yeah....and contrary to the usual politics business, he is willing to to use them....both! :)

That's why we love Trump and the US army.

My only objection is that we use it for free to the beneficiaries. Korea and Japan should be gigantic profit centers for the US. Without proof, both are deficit operations...

Yeah....and contrary to the usual politics business, he is willing to to use them....both! :)

Yeah, a head of superpower willing to attack a peaceful allied country, what a relief...

What if that peaceful country is ready to let China have a mil base?

Would it still be "peaceful" and "allied"?

Remember Cuba in 1962? It was "peaceful" and the US still said: No fvcking way!

Yes, I know, in women's world it was not very nice...

Yeah, a head of superpower willing to attack a peaceful allied country, what a relief...

An interesting article about the backstory of that:

reuters.com/world/why-does-trump-want-greenland-could-he-get-it-2025-01-08/

The thing seems to be that the few thousand Greenlanders want to become independent from Danmark, but without all that danish support they will need someone else to pay for them...they might want to join the US peacefully!

....While Greenlanders want independence, they are well aware of their economic reliance on Denmark. One option could be to form a so-called "free association" with the United States that would replace Danish subsidies with U.S. support and protection in return for military rights, similar to the status of Pacific island nations Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau.....

.... When asked about Trump's renewed interest this week, Frederiksen said: "We need very close cooperation with the Americans."
She added: "On the other hand, I would like to encourage everyone to respect that the Greenlanders are a people, it is their country, and only Greenland can determine and define Greenland's future."....

I don't see US troops invading Greenland....but alone the strategic position and the undoubtful rich natural resources, some of them very rare, make Greenland a valuable morsel....I personally see Trump just having set a big heap to show the interest of the US....nothing more, nothing less.

Is there any talk about Chinese military base in Greenland*?
Novichok  5 | 7983

No. It's worse. China is buying the US with the money we send to China.

Some of the purchases are next to military bases.

Some of the purchases are next to military bases.

Well then that's up to your government. I would assume they secured enough land around.

And btw- I meant Greenland

PS:

....Decades ago, the U.S. under then-President Harry Truman sought to buy the island as a strategic asset during the Cold War for $100 million in gold, but Copenhagen declined to sell.....

Back then the Greenlanders themselves had no say innit, still being a full danish colony, that might be different this time....

Greenlanders themselves had no say innit, that might be different this time....

And that would be fine. Why do you seem to hint they would prefer to be with USA? Any polls etc?

The article points it out....since Greenland stopped extraction and selling of it's natural oil and gas reserves it nearly fully (to 95%) relies on support from Denmark to survive.

...This has kept Greenland's economy reliant on fishing, which accounts for over 95% of exports, and annual subsidies from Denmark, which cover roughly half of the public budget. In total, Denmark spends just under $1 billion each year on Greenland, or $17,500 for each of its 57,000 residents.....

But then that:

....In 2009, the island was granted broad self-governing autonomy, including the right to declare independence from Denmark through a referendum....

So yeah....either the Greenlanders are that stupid or they are that short sighted....they have to have a "master"....if they no longer want Denmark, they will have to chose someone else....they can't survive on their own like this.

....A majority of Greenland's inhabitants support independence, but they are divided over the timing and potential impact on living standards.

Greenlandic politicians have since 2019 repeatedly said they are interested in strengthening cooperation and trade with the United States.....

I really don't see an USian invasion as in "hostile territory"....that just won't be necessary!

No.

Then stop yapping nonsense. The US already has a base in Greenland - "Pituffik Space Force Base in Greenland, which hosts a U.S. military presence and provides great strategic value for U.S. and NATO military forces".

And the US army has an access to Danish military bases:

bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-12-19/denmark-opens-military-bases-to-us-troops-under-new-defense-deal

The Chinese building a military base in Denmark is as political sci-fi as it can get lol

they will have to chose someone else...

...like China.

That's why we need Trump, not an idiot like Carter, mercifully dead now. He would give Hawaii away...
Novichok  5 | 7983

And the US army has an access to Danish military bases:

We have access to the bases in Westerm Europe.

Germany could vote to allow China to have its own - democratically and peacefully. The US would say NO and that would be the end of it. Russia has the same right in Ukraine.

Access alone is not enough. Exclusive access is what we demand and get. See Cuba and Gitmo. No, neither China nor Russia will ever have a base in Cuba.

Why? Because we said so. Period. Any questions?

they have to have a "master"....if they no longer want Denmark, they will have to chose someone else....they can't survive on their own like this.

Those are quotes from your article that you didn't include:

"Aaja Chemnitz, a Greenlandic member of the Danish parliament, said the idea of a U.S. takeover should be firmly rejected. "I don't want to be a pawn in Trump's hot dreams of expanding his empire to include our country," she wrote."

"Greenland is talking about becoming independent from Denmark, but no Greenlanders want to just switch to a new colonial master," said Ulrik Pram Gad, a senior researcher and expert on Greenland"

"Greenland has banned extraction of oil and natural gas for environmental reasons, and development of its mining sector has been snarled in red tape and opposition from indigenous people."

Germany could vote to allow China to have its own - democratically and peacefully.

They could, but they wouldn't and not because the US would tell them not to lol

Russia has the same right in Ukraine.

No, it doesn't. RuSSia isn't in an alliance with Ukraine.

Those are quotes from your article that you didn't include:

I mentioned greenlandic possible stupidity though....

Not selling your assets AND wanting independence from your lone supporter, who secures your survival, is not a viable political opinion with any future!

They need to have a master who pays for them....and/or re-start selling their ressources to pay for themselves, there is no other way, hence my dismissal.

That doesn't make my...

Germany could vote to allow China to have its own - democratically and peacefully. The US would say NO and that would be the end of it.

...untrue.

Things change. Poland used to an ally of the USSR.
Paulina  17 | 4410

@Novichok, no, Poland wasn't an ally of the USSR - it was its hostage. And that only happened because the Soviet Union invaded Poland. So what are the chances of China invading Germany?

Germany is not an ally of the US. It is a hostage. Germany has no business not buying from Russia what it needs to prosper. It is forced not to.

invading random, peaceful countries for land and resources is evil.

On the flip side - Greenland is not a proper country, it wouldn't be worse off being another US state. To be honest, being the US state is not that bad.

1

The most obvious evidence being the spy scandal during the Obama administration, if Germany was an independent state the US ambassador would at least have had to be reprimanded for such an obvious transgression, instead Angela Merkel came out with a statement that it's ok that the Americans were listening & tapping in to her telephone conversations, it's not like she had anything incriminating to say.

@Vesko Vukovic, Poland would want to have so many US bases on its territory lol

It is a hostage.

No, it isn't.

To be honest, being the US state is not that bad.

I don't know, the Greenlanders don't seem to be so convinced about this - here a Polish guy who's been living in Greenland for almost 20 years is talking about what people over there think about all this commotion:

wiadomosci.wp.pl/polak-o-kulisach-przylotu-trumpa-juniora-na-grenlandie-polaczyl-sie-z-ojcem-7112072092650240a

My translation of a fragment from the article:

"The events of the last weeks, meaning tweets and statements by Donald Trump and his son's visit, were taken a bit more seriously. Although still many people I talked to, including my students at high school, seemed to be pretty indifferent. If you look at it more widely Greenlanders have become more sceptical and wary - he explains.

Those more cautious inhabitants of the island remind about forcible resettlements due to the building of the American air force base in Thule in the 1950s. They also talk about the bad treatement of indigenous inhabitants of the US, primarily the Inuit in Alaska. Greenlanders are interested in their life, they take part in various exchanges and they know very well that due to the policies of the American government they lost a big part of their culture. Something like this would be unacceptable here."

The whole idea proposed by President elect Trump is so ludicrous

Imagine John F Kennedy or Jimmy Carter acting so stupidly.
Americans must be really twice dumber than in the past if they elect such a leader for themselves today. Is it in the polluted water they drink?????????????

Yeah, the whole world are former Serbs according to you.... LOL!!!!!!!!

As for Vesko, the Serbian troll, he must be Yugoslav, they all have an itch at the end of their surnames!
Poland is perfectly happy with the American bases in their country, even though they don't need them.
More is better than less.
