Why do so many Polish girls dye their hair BLACK?

I'm talking about fluorescent colors - blue, pink, bright red etc. You don't see that type of sh1t in Poland. In the west its more common especially amongst the far left barista/professional protestor basement dwellers. But yes most Polish women dye their hair but they choose a color that's at least a common hair color. Most the women I know dye their hair blonde though, not brown/black or red.

Shoe polish black hair was very common among middle-aged and some senior polish "Panis" in and around Hamtramck, Michigan years ago. I don't see it as a trend. I think it is just a Polish thing.

Of course, not most today. I would say about 25% of those who dye their hair do it in black. About 40% - blond. About - 30% - red. About 5% - other, e..g, purple.

Goth culture is popular in Poland from what I notice when I was there last year. Some Polish girls look good in black as long as it's not pitch black. I prefer purple or just natural hair color.

If anything a bit less popular now than in the past. Emo is big (though emo girls don't necessarily just dress in black). Japanese and Korean looks also have their devotees.

Maf, I have admit, you are excellent, interpreting technical aspects of the Polish language, very good, knowledgeable of Polish tradition's. What you are lacking are the nuances and intricacies naturally learned by a Polish-born person, suckled on with the mother's milk.
Because of the rarity of the dark, swarthy types in the Polish population, darkness with the swarthy complexion (poludniowiec) was considered the sign of beauty. That was the real reason

Beauty standards (for male and female) are always about scarcity.

Some years ago I read a description of Polish ideas of beauty in the 1950s and realized it could be describing Edyta Górniak in the 1990s (with longer hair). The context was a woman from a Jewish family that immigrated to Canada in the late 50s. One particular trauma was that in Poland, she had been considered the prettier sister (with dark hair, prominent cheekbones, slightly slanty eyes) but in Canada her blonde sister was suddenly the prettier of the two.

I noticed years ago that Polish women are _very_ into the southern mediterranean types.
