Well done you. Let's talk after you have started university.

Although the fact that you have managed to gain entry to a university without learning the difference between "I am " and "I'm" does suggest that entry requirements are slipping somewhat.

I don't think most will take it well. Its not like I hate Poland. There are things about Poland I love, but at the moment I am not too proud. I'm from Canada by the way.

Oh boy, I would hate to be in your situation because being Canadian is nothing to be proud of either. LOL

Now guys. Please don't flame me.

I'm not gonna flame you, but I'll write about some parallels.

Poland is being run by a bunch of idiots.

Would you say McGuinty is smart? Harper? How about that aspiring narcissistic fool Ignatieff?

The economy is not great

Actually, it's the only EU economy with noted growth, and the growth is higher than that in Canada.

my relatives who live in Poland always ***** and complain

Everybody complains. Remember the GM workers who got bailed out? So called minorities in Canada? Single mothers who cannot get daycare for their colorful kids? I could go on. Turn on the radio (not some classic rock though) and hear Canadians complain. It's good they do. Without complaining we all would be still looking for a nearest tree while running away from hungry wolves.

They always tell me how the roads and buildings are poor

Let's not talk about Canadian roads. As they say, there are two seasons in Canada - Winter and road works.

All of my friends, whether they are Italian, Romanian, Czech, Greek, Swedish, French, they are all proud of their nationality but I'm not and I hate it.

- Do Italians tell you it is customary for them to live at home past the age of 30?
- Do the Greeks tell you about their rich history of sodomy? How about their disastrous economy (read the newspapers).
- Do the Swedes brag how they got screwed by Muslims because of Swedish political impotence? Do they tell you about outrageous taxes? Do they brag about their proverbial cowardice?

- Do the French tell you about their issues with Islam and how the country is going down the drain fast?

It really frustrates me when you see Italy, Greece, France and the UK having all those beautiful and historical sites and people visiting them but with Poland its like nobody gives a **** because its not as flashy as those other Western European countries.

Did you know that Krakow was ahead of Paris in the most visited EU cities?

I'm feeling pretty down and maybe you guys can enlighten me. If you guys want to call me an idiot or a moron, thats fine.

I wouldn't call you a moron. You're simply lazy. You listen to all the stories but never bother to educate yourself about yours, do you? Do some research on Poland, its history, tourism etc.

One thing that struck me is that you do not display much pride in being Canadian. So there, you show how you are ashamed of that, eh?

your relatives seems to be a bunch of grumblers, sorry about that.

No worries

As for tourist attractions, well it seems that you don't know much about Poland...

I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the advice.

Maybe I am lazy, but thanks for the advice.

So far the most honest advice you have been given comes from beelzebub.

DISREGARD what the others are saying. When it comes down to patriotism and defending Polands honor, the same old names just keep coming up.

You are right to feel the way you are feeling. Polish people have changed and are no longer the people they used to be. ( I speak of the majority ). It saddens me too.

I regard myself as a " citizen of the world ". It means I have no identity with any one place. No patriotism or bias and no one can label me to any particular nationality.

Respect to the honesty of your post, because honesty is whats important.

Remember, " I am who I am ".

Very well said.
I live in America, but I was born in South America, after my grandparents struggled a lot to find a safe place for my parents. If it wasn't for the war, and other calamities of destiny we wouldn't be discussing this here.

I don't speak a word of polish yet, (although I'm learning). And I have never been in poland before. But with God as my witness I'm so proud to be of polish descendant!!

The collective spirit of the poles and their believes are the first reasons why I'm so proud of my last name.
I wish I could move to Poland one day and return the family blood to its original place.

Honestly you are being extremely biased! You don't think every country has it's faults? It's never ending with people complaining about their own country- whether it be US, Canada or Poland. Whichever, don't be so biased that only Poles hate their country! It's wrong.

The reason people complain is because everyone wants their country to run the way they want it! Most people don't have a lot of the same exact opinions. So, if the world ran like we wanted it, we would have about 6 billion countries. Don't fret about your heritage. If you hate it that much, just forget about it.

Every country, whether in western or eastern europe has had its glory moments and its "pathetic" moments and Poland is no different. Its not a crime to disagree with the way your country is run or what state it is in. I'm Polish (born and live in Canada) and I dream of the day I can return to make my country better (as naive as that may sound). I'm not going to antagonize you for being ashamed of your heritage, although I strongly disagree with your feelings. You mention your firends of all these different nationalities. Look at the Greeks, they, like Poland, had their glory days in ancient times, but now their economy is in the s***er and they're begging for handouts. The Swedes fought with Poland on a number of different occasions, with more losses than victories. In the 17th century (and 18th century if I'm not mistaken) the fashion of the women of France was heavily influenced by the styles of Polish womens' fashion; during the Napoleonic Wars, the best troops argueably came from Poland (namely the cavalry, dragoons I believe they were called). A lot of western nations owe something to Poland, and vice versa.

I recommend you read about our history. I think you will be quite surprised with the things we have to be proud of.

Cheers,

Nowak

oh really? That's kinda funny, in a forum context. And somewhat arrogant, wouldn't you say?
I happen to think my advice was more to the point that yours. Polish use complaining as a starting point to many conversations and that does not mean that they think their lives are unbearable, or that they are not patriotic.

Every country have their heroic tales.
History is exactly that.... history ( the past ).

" Feeling ashamed of my heritage". ....... nothing to do with pride.
He is feeling aggrieved about the way Poland is NOW ......... repair that !!

Have a look what they write about Poland in the Economist. It is not a Polish magazine I guess (-:

Who is they? I fact, it's mostly Rostowski who wrote the article (remember, before being Minister, he used to write in the FT and WBJ..)

Don't be shames of what happened in Poland or other countries.

You weren't there back then. You ancestories have been fighting for their countries.
Somehow it meant to be.

Be proud of your heritages.

I don't like mine but I have to lived with it.

Oh give me a break. What have you done that honors them so much Timbo?

The same things they did.

The current generation would be an embarrassment to the WWII era Poles.

Whos fault is that? Why don't you show them that in a kind way. You know, be productive in some fashion.

Also...they didn't do what they did so YOU could do anything. They did it to survive.

You must be young or have no children. Get back to me on this in a few years.

They are not different than anyone else who survived horrors...the nationality doesn't matter.

I'm not a one-worlder, so this although factually true is just stupid to me. Empathy is fine but you seem to want to minimize everyones story. Why?

Why do you let your egos rule you so much? The more someone talks about how PROUD they are to be some nationality the more useless they are to that society as a rule.

Nowhere in my post is proud or pride. Whos rule? yours? Why are you such a wet blanket? You appear to me to be either mentally ill or just a mis-educated fool. You sound like cancer to me. Get some chemo before you spread.

I don't care enough to go quote for quote with you and frankly I find people who pick apart posts like that annoying. But I did notice your last comment...people who encourage others to commit suicide are a special kind of disgusting. Good job showing the world your true character ;)

Just asking you to clarify your argument. What are you afraid of?

But I did notice your last comment...people who encourage others to commit suicide are a special kind of disgusting.

What are you talking about? I don't see it. You should seek some counseling for your depression/self-loathing/painful rectal itch.

This is just the kind of talk that shames Poles and gives bad vibes.

Sounds like you need some " anger management ".

Isn't Jag university one of the oldest in Europe?

As for the OP's idea that the modern state of Poland is somehow something he should be ashamed of... duh? How is a modern state of play anything to do with 'heritage'?

Come on, look at Italy's premier and then talk about shame. Look at UK/US premiers who just love going to war and lying to their populace...
