Travel / Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines? [380]

everyone knows that it adds to the girls face

Right, "everyone knows"!!. Very scientific!!! On the wikipedia page that you managed to find, (I happened to read it yesterday, coincidentally), you'll notice it has a height range (and how that's related to the physical conditions of the aircraft) and a little something about BMI. Nothing to do with "attractiveness".

News / Polish PM Tusk- dictator or not? What Poles think? [374]

reality

And in reality they threw out a despised government at the earliest opportunity. Democracy in action.

point is those roads were there before, add only lift up.!

Probably the best way to do it, rather than despoil even more countryside.

that would be discrimination

Damn right it would.

Can a lawyer prove the flight attendant wasn't hired because of her looks

You've a lot to learn about lawyers.

There's ways to go around it.
Training Language Height and weight Uniforms and presentation These requirements and intertwined with appearance and attractiveness

So how are training and language "intertwined" (LOL) with "appearance and attractivenes"?
Even "height and weight" don't preclude being as ugly as sin.

If AerLingus, Lufthansa, KLM or Iberia had a policy of hiring

young attractive girls

they'd be bled dry by a combination of fines for criminal offenses and compensation from civil cases. And rightly so.

It's not illegal to hire based on attractiveness.

It is however illegal in Europe to hire based on age or gender unless there are compelling reasons for a post to be exempt from anti-discrimination laws. And almost since "attractiveness" has no bearing whatsoever on ability to do the job, there would be clear grounds for a civil lawsuit if they only hired "pretty" ones.

And rightly so. If Penn Boy wants to lech at the stweardesses, let him go to Spearmint Rhino instead.

You trying to say a pretty girl can't do the same job? she can be there for both safety and pleasing the eye.

It's a good thing you're not responsible for hiring LOT cabin crew - the company would end up having to pay out soooo much to the plaintiffs' lawyers.

Food / Eat goulash from a cat and a steak from a dog in Poland! [114]

Most likely, Asians.

A few perhaps, but the whole thing sounds like an advertising gimmick for his restaurant. I doubt he'll sell much cat or dog, except to the occasional Pole who's thrill seeking, if at all.

I hope he is honest about what is going into his meals, too. I wouldn't want to go someplace, thinking I am eating pork and have it be a dog or a cat. That's another thing that concerns me about this. Product mislabeling. If he can do it, who knows who else is doing it.

Yes. there was a problem a few years ago near Piaseczno, very well publicised at the time. A place who supply Sajgonki to Vietnamese bars were using cat and dog. They were prosecuted for it.

dogs eat their own poop. so if you want that extra zing in your diet,, lol go for it.

As good a reason as any to avoid it!

News / Polish PM Tusk- dictator or not? What Poles think? [374]

That would be true if they didn't have an election every four years. Or less if a government fails, as the PiS/LPR/Samoobrona coalition did. If a clear majority of people are unsatisfied with a democratic government, they have a chance to change it. If a minority don't like it, they can either attempt to convince the majority or even seize power. And that certainly wouldn't be democratic.

I've used LOT plenty of times - never any problems, decent food, nice service.

Though Saudia is my favourite, partly because what they save by not serving alcohol goes on the food budget!

That's the thing about democracy: it doesn't always produce the result you want. In almost any system though, the leaders are people who've dedicated their lives to becoming leader, like that tit Hague. Maybe absolute monarchy's the answer, where someone's born to rule whether they want to or not. Failing that, just pull a name out of a hat and take a chance.

But Tusk at least won fair and square, like him or not

Life / What is Poland's view on obesity? How healthy, fit are Poles? [166]

I'm 6 foot 200 pounds, but im active and play sports,

Very normal in Poland - not out of the ordinary at all - you shouldn't worry.

US we get the impression that all the other countries are super fit

Most of Europe isn't really. Nothing to worry about.

News / Which modern developments harm Poland? [83]

Wow, you like something - good that you've come up with that, even though there are a few negative things in there. Probably the nicest post of yours that I've seen here, and some lovely imagery.

The next stage is to try to like some of the things which seem to send you into apoplexy, for example modern technology, cosmopolitan lifestyles and the commercial world. How do you think you could do that?

That "place" is my country, i've been to Warsaw many times.

Not America? A dog can only have one master, you know.

You should come again to vist. I invite you to my city - we can visit MacDonalds or some other fast food chain, or if you want to try Polish fast food, there are plenty of places. Seriously, why not come?

I like, fast food, punch-ups at rock cocnerts, smoking pot, football or drinking Miller Lite.

Of those, it seems we only have the pot in common, and even then I only use it sparingly, but what in life actually makes you happy? You frequently post lists of things you hate, but what fills your heart with joy?

once there's a McDonald's or a Kebab shop on every corner

There is. Pizzas too.

too poor to eat at McD everyday.

Whereas those of us who are closer see MacD's full every day. I remember when there were maybe ten around town. Now there are at least 60.

Warsaw??

60 MacD's and many many others. Compares pretty well with any city the same size in Europe.

I've been in Poland a few years ago,

I think, if you came to visit, you'd find things have changed very quickly. I invite you to Poland.

Philadelphia where I live

In the country which is home to MacD's.

not counting hundreds of corner store businesses that sell fast food.

And thousands of small takeaways in Warsaw, plus all the main chains that have a presence in Europe. So your comment, as usual, is worthless.

Again, I invite you to Poland to have a look. You might like it.

The UK is one of the most democratic countries in the world.

That's human survival instinct to eat as much as possible and store it (fat, protein) in the body for later.

Quite. And it was a reality for many people in Europe (not just in PL) when the shops were empty. What's important is a change in habits when you've got everything at your fingertips.

As a newcomer to PL a few years ago I was appalled to see people (always men) eating in the aisles of supermarkets and taking the empty packaging to the check-out.

nce people in Poland will be able to afford going to a fast food joint daily

Many do.

Polish society as a whole still hasn't yet reconciled the problem of eating as much as you can get because there are supply issues and being able to buy as much as you can afford. And the long cold winters are no time for salads.

Law / WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE EURO CURRENCY TO POLAND? [101]

England is an island

Britain, not England.

Brits prefer to stay as Kingdom

90% do.

Euro is only a word then

It's a currency that Britain will join if and when it is proved to be advantageous.

News / Which modern developments harm Poland? [83]

scams, ploys, sucker traps, false advertising claims, celebrity claptrap, commercialist popculture

Personally I just let all that pass me by. No TV, no tabloids, ignoring adverts.
So what do you like, what makes you happy to be alive?

commercialist megaforces

You mean companies?

designed primarily to extract as much moeny as possible

Ah, you mean trade. Which has been around for thousands of years - in what way is that a "modern development" which "harms Poland"?

Gullible youth, much more likely to uncirtically accept things if cleverly packaged and touted as trendy and cutting edge, are obviously the most targetted.

And again, why do you think that's a "modern development which harms Poland"?

It seems you are just tired of life.

foisted on the unsuspecting public?

Foisted by whom?

premature deaths due to fast-food obesity, physical inactivity, substance abuse, drink-driving

Life expectancy is steadily rising and has never been higher, which suggests you're talking rubbish as usual. I also remember you ranting on against healthy-eating not long ago.

unscrupulous business practices

What's new about that?

way out there beyond one's immediate range of scrutiny.

Beyond whose scrutiny?

clever repartee which he obviously prefers to substrantive discourse.

It seems clear you prefer hysterical, reactionary and largely meaningless tabloid-style rants to plain common sense. Nothing new to us here. Stick to posting links to coprophilia sites. How any of the 'developments' you mention "harm modern Poland" is anyone's guess - and you are guessing, since you have never been there.

Change happens, it always has and always will - you can't stop it, and nobody wants to. There's always the option of moving to a desert island and ignoring the outside world.
