Feedback / Why are people who can't be bothered to register allowed to post or start new threads? [50]

so yes I can be pretty darn sure that no English teacher in Warsaw has gone to work in a car wash to "substitute" their income.

I would guess there are teachers doing very well in Warsaw, but there are bound to be others not doing so well as expected. I'm thinking about the ones who come on here, with a 4 week course behind them, asking about extra work and charging low fees. Don't you think when their money runs out, they would be desperate enough to to do any job to stop themselves from starving? Warsaw is a big city, do you really know everyone who calls themselves an English teacher there?

to claim that Brits p!ss on the toilet seat or that English teachers wash cars to replace their income,

How can you be so sure that this has never happened? What do we do with posters who claim that most Americans live in their parents basements, or start calling members by other names in the public forums? Should we ban them too?

History / Poles slaughtered during World War 2 by partisans in Koniuchy [10]

Just one of those sad little stories of people doing their best to survive the war. This time round, the ragtag self-defence force failed to stave off a raid for revolutionary supplies (i.e. pillage by rabid Commies). This story gets little airing, and when it does the lies start flying, because "the right people died at the hands of the good guys."

Could you provide a link please?

Feedback / Editing time too short (5 minutes currently) [60]

So let's have a strike-through edit only option, meaning that one can never removed what one wrote but can correct mistakes or show that one no longer means what one said.

Threads and posts might not look very pretty if this were allowed, besides some posters often put their hands up to an earlier error (if it was the opposite to what they meant) in a later post. Most errors occur when posters rush their posts, without previewing, and we're all guilty of this at some time.

Yea, that has very little to do with going back and editing something. By definition you can't edit before something is posted.

It's up to the poster to make sure their post is correct before sending, hence the preview button. This is the same situation with emails, edit before sending, as you won't be able to edit afterwards.

The main reason why editing time is short (5 minutes should be ample) is because as someone else pointed out, many rouge posters would change their posts and deny that they wrote something else.

And the short edit time is nonsense as well, can't go back and change a spelling error is ludicrous.

There is a preview button, that you can view your post before hitting ' post message' and you can take as long as you wish.

Of course, that's very true, I'm just saying their website is a lot nicer looking....modern looking at least and a lot more functional than this relic of the 1990s.

The site is very easy on the eye(s) and also for this reason, it loads faster than 95% of all other websites. The old adage ' you can't have your cake and eat it ' springs to mind.

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

From my point of view - English forest is quite dead. There are no wolves, wild-boars, bears.

No offense, but hope it stays like this. Not the sort of beasts one would like to come face to face with.

Life / Amazon stops super saver delivery on orders to Poland [40]

They use Royal mail and others for delivery, but have their own distribution centres, amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=2610312031 or as they call them 'Fulfilment Centres' similar to the ones in the USA

and the UK)

If this is going to be the case, then they're still going to need warehouses in the UK as distributing centres, like they have today, so nothing much will change here. I can't imagine them sending a plane from Poland for a £ 7. 99 book because an UK customer has paid a couple of extra quid for next day delivery.

Life / Amazon stops super saver delivery on orders to Poland [40]

There is probably a small percentage of people in the UK asking for things to be shipped from Amazon warehouses in Poland, Amazon UK can provide this, next day if required. Incidentally, recently they have also stopped the 'free standard delivery' for items under £9.99 for UK customers.

Language / What computer keyboards are in use in Poland? [33]

I was wondering if they were genuine (its rare but occasionally even Amazon makes mistakes)!

They are a reputable company, I would hardly think they would make a mistake like that. It would be a lot of unnecessary trouble for them, if costumers keep sending them back because they weren't 'as described'.

UK, Ireland / ILR ( Indefinite Leave To Remain ) In the UK [2]

You would have to apply for it.

how you prove that for others without ILR ID card or document ?? any one explain me please

If you are working legally in the UK and paying tax, you should have been given a national insurance number. This number can be traced back to the day you received it, and it will also be linked to any national insurance and tax contributions you have paid.

Feedback / Where is the login link on Polish forum [3]

You will find it on the very first page you'll see, first two boxes at the top of the page, with the words 'log in'. I believe it has been there for nearly 9 years. Let us know if you still have trouble finding it.

Love / Polish Pet Names For Girls. [156]

Why have you merged my question with this thread? It hasn't been active in almost a year.

Thanks to you it's active again and top of the pile. 'Kot koo' would probably be close enough for her to understand you.

Language / A little Polish grammar. Masculine, animate objects. [64]

so yu ad the sz to informal?

In this instant yes, but there is more to it. Verbs are words that express action, and the endings of the verb varies according to who is doing the action. The infinitive form of the verb mówić (to speak) is the one you'll find in a dictionary. Mówić belongs to a certain group of verbs (there are 3 other main groups) and the endings will change for each person(s) as follows:

singular
mówię - I speak
mówisz - you speak
on/ona/ono mówi - he/she/ it speaks

plural

mówimy - we speak
mówicie - you speak
oni/one mówią - they speak ( men only or at least one woman in the group/ women only and everything else.

You can use mówisz with friends and family, people your own age and children, but with someone older it's best to use the polite form pan/panie with the 3rd person form of the verb mówi. I don't want to dishearten you but, the above examples are the present tense of the verb Mówić, and there will also be changes for the future, past, conditional and imperative tenses too.

Also what exactly does po mean???? It seems to be used quie often but I've learned it to mean after.

'po' is used in the location and accusative cases as well, depending on whether it's location or motion. If you want to inform someone, that you can speak one of the following languages, polski, angielski, hiszpański francuski (Polish, English, Spanish and French) you replace the ending -ki with -ku and place the preposition 'po' in front, mówię po polsku, mówię po angielsku, mówię po hiszańsku and mówię po francusku. Names of languages are spelt with small letters.

But why Czy mowisz po polsku???

Because it's the second person singular (Informal), the other two are 3rd person singular (formal)

You don't add any sz for jake sie masz informal

But the sz is added in jak się masz second person (informal).

Love / Poland's virginity market [17]

The article is not 'anti-Polish' as it was written originally by a Pole, and published in a Polish newspaper

It shouldn't be too much trouble to add a link then, after all you are translating it into English.

szczecinianin, I think it would be a good idea, when posting a link to your blog/newspaper, to also provide a link to the media source where the original article came from. Please do this in your first post when starting a new thread.

Feedback / NEW: Notorious trolls of the PolishForums Community are being permanently suspended [120]

I am interested how well thought through this whole thread was, it just seems a knee jerk reaction to me and Delph is being hung out to dry,

No offense but you probably haven't read as many of delphi's posts as we have. If you were online the day before this thread was created you couldn't help but notice the mayhem he caused trolling the forums, and all because in his own words "I have a day of work and I'm bored" Is this a good enough reason to turn a blind eye?
