News / Parliament in Poland clears way for nuclear plant [78]

@amiga500
Maybe in the past. But things have definitely changed. Previously PiS would walk away with wins, and this time not even a second round though they were predicting a second round.

@Cargo pants
Great point on the elections. This can be seen as a sign of things to come in the country side. Rzeszow has long benefited from PiS connections, and they just spat in their faces.

Real Estate / How much would it cost to build a house in Poland? [23]

@pawian
I think the proposal still requires some professional assistance, but no permits from the local government for building. Just a notice to them that its taking place. I asked a friend who is a builder and he said, while its still new territory that his understanding is electricians, plumbers, and licensed people are still required, but that the owner can manage the project.

Work / Is Poland's ZUS obligatory for a one man LLC? [13]

@Frederick Taka
You are looking at just over 1400 pln per month for ZUS if you are a one person SP ZO O and a non Pole. Contributions for employee's will depend on their pay.

Work / Family of four considering a move to Poland from USA [31]

@amiga500
I would only fly LOT if it was the only available carrier. They are brutal when it comes to delays and cancelled flights, and I would never take them on a flight to the States. I used to play the card stacking game too for miles in the US. Once you have all the cards though...

Santander is also an American bank. "Santander Bank, N. A., formerly Sovereign Bank, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Spanish Santander Group. It is based in Boston and its principal market is the northeastern United States."

Bank points are not what I am interested in unless they can be redeemed for travel. Most cards in USA have points/miles programs. These are simply not available that I have seen here. They give nice card limits here, and are very generous with all lending in my opinion. I was used to the "American" way of things with cards, but am used to having only one Polish card here and its not an issue once used to it. But thanks.

Speaking from my personal experience, they didn't care that I had a perfect credit score in USA. Banks in Poland, most still controlled by the state, have their own credit agency. They wanted to see six months of income in Poland, deposited into Polish accounts, then they would issue a credit card. Mortgage? Have not needed one so can't speak to that. I will say though, that credit here in cards is a lot different than the US. No points programs, or other perks even with very high limits and Gold card seems to be the highest level here. It is clearly still a young and emerging market, so expect a lot of red tape and different ways of banking business.

Unfortunately I still pay taxes there too! lol There are some centrists. I am starting to see Gowin as someone who could get some things done here.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [558]

@amiga500
They are almost out of ventilators. It was on the news last night. This is information you get when you live here. Hospitals in rural communities are now being converted for COVID, on the news last night. Polsat, not TVN or TVP.

You are right PiS prepared just as badly as the rest of Europe, at a minimum. Evidence points to a lot worse.

If PiS includes business tax cuts, what business gets them? When you cut business taxes, cut personal taxes, reduce the tax paying base, who exactly pays for everything? Inflation and devaluing the currency is what happens. This is not what makes a country strong. Cutting and spending does not work, its the fastest route to financial suicide.

People are beginning to report that 337 companies out of more than 40 thousand companies were given "shield" money from PiS. I would call this a broken promise.

@amiga500
Continuing to give money to the same groups of people does not help the country. I have lived in 3 countries, and own business in each one.

PiS is in charge. They are communists really. In case you dont know or cant read todays news, the hospitals are overwhelmed because PiS did not prepare for the second wave the rest of the world was talking about. They said they defeated the virus.

If PiS did anything effective I would give them credit for it. This is your problem, its all PiS positive or its not. PO was no better. I don't support either. I am not some stupid party politics ideologist. I am a realist. As a realist, PiS has mishandled everything thrown their way. They are a Polish disaster.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [558]

@amiga500
I have no problem paying my ZUS and don't need an exemption. As I said my business is up 600% year on year. I have a problem with the way ZUS is designed. It is a business killer, and encourages under the table cash payments instead of salary and contracts.

The unemployment rate is only calculated on those people who file for unemployment benefits and protection. It does not account for business closures. It does not account for bankruptcy, or for those who were never legally employed on the books who no longer have their jobs. Most recent projections accounting for all of those items are actually well over 10% and likely closer to 15%.

5 billion is nothing. 95% went to industry and large business. This is a fact. This is not make believe PiS fantasy.

This is where I have a problem with your PiS BS. It is these kinds of false narratives that lead uneducated people to believe things are ok when they are not. It is these kinds of false narratives that perpetuate the collapse of freedoms, and economic growth. That is irresponsible. It is sickening to think anyone would actually believe these things and make life decisions based on them, but they do.

These are not "leaks today" the "New Deal" has been a political topic since August, but got derailed again when PiS had to try to cover up how they blew the COVID pandemic second wave preparation. When they said "we defeated the virus" I laughed. Intelligent people around the world laughed. PiS have placed this country in danger by their ineffectiveness and their incompetence.

@amiga500
You should go into comedy after that. Clearly you have no clue about the true state of affairs here. There is no stimulus planned for business other than the money the EU is sending and 95% of that has been claimed by industry and PiS cronies.

When tax breaks are given to the lowest earners, those making lets say 3000 pln per month, maybe even 5000 pln, and 70% of those people who could have benefited from such action last summer, or before, but those people are now unemployed, and the business is gone, who benefits then? If 30% of the people in that group get the benefit, the savings, is not enough to make an economic impact on society as a whole. Sure it will buy a few more loaves of bread, but it wont be enough to raise anyone out of poverty. It is a populist buying votes tactic, nothing more.

@amiga500
But once again you fail to see the picture of the economy and what is really happening here. Nearly everyone in the service industry is out of work, no tax savings is going to help them. Sure it will help Uber eats drivers, Glovo drives and similar others, but thats not enough.

I have never asked for a tax break personally. I don't mind paying 32% personally. This is about the economy, not about anything else. Which other than siphoning billions from the EU annd wasting a ton of money, what economic gains has PiS brought independently? ZERO.

More and more PiS scandals as a wife of one of JK's best friends got a position at Orlen and two other company's making tens of thousands a month and she isn't qualified to turn on a laptop.

Yes. The "new" New Deal is supposed to contain eliminating taxes for the lowest wage earners, raising the tax threshold for wages, and a whole lot more cash giveaways to "the people". This, after going into debt with the pandemic, destroying the economy needlessly, and bankrupting hundreds of thousands of people and business.

They cant even understand the lowest wage earners are predominantly in the service industry, and other small business which PiS has destroyed. The New Deal, same as the Old Deal. Much ado about doing nothing that will work.

And you will get turned down as an existing corporation. Get a clue. Do some research. Get informed. You are the dumbest troll here.

News / How could PiS better spend billions instead of 500+ ? [275]

@amiga500
The CIT rate is 19%. Stop reading singular on line articles about new business types and thinking you are an educated expert. You don't know anything about business that much is crystal clear.

The 9% rate only applies to specific types of income other than capital gains. You must make an application for it if you are an existing company. Unlike you, I actually do business here every day.

Income tax on people under 25 eliminated, people over 25 pay for it with higher taxes, more taxes on individual items and higher ZUS.

Thanks to Poland, profits are up 600% year on year. Paying more taxes and don't mind paying them when they are used correctly. The problem is PiS couldn't use money correctly if they had an unlimited supply of gold or oil sitting under the sejm. They simply dont have the intellect.

@amiga500
According to KPMG? You are simply a government shill.

Doctors can order any medicines they want at their clinics. You might want to look up the laws before you start talking about things you dont know.

As for people changing their income claims at 25, its pretty common knowledge that its done here.

I had my family, who live here, who practice law here, investigate the new business tax at 9% and you need to take a reading comprehension class because it is not available to everyone. You really need to get a clue.

And the most important give away that you have no clue about business here is that the business owner pays the taxes directly to the Voivodeship. Accountants have no access to money and are not authorized to make such payments. Accountants, by Polish law, are liable for tax computation, and will not assume liability for making tax payments for their clients when they are independent companies.

The only thing your family manufactures is BS because you're full of it.

Because this person touts "facts" that are not facts at all and are misinformation. This is a problem. I also believe in the past this person has made representations that they lived or live in Poland. Fakes are fakes and shouldn't be participating in a real discussion that impacts real people.

@amiga500
PiS has raised taxes. Clearly you have no real world understanding of what is happening here. The 9% rate is only available to a very few and specific companies, it is not available to any existing corporations. Stop with your misinformation and get the facts straight.

No income tax for U25's is a disaster. Some of these people are the highest earners because they are creative in business. Then they turn 25, and magically their income falls below the 19% threshold because they know how to hide money.

Biden is a socialist in my opinion and he will drive the country further into debt. He will create an unprecedented amount of jobs while doing it, and will tax the hell out of the wealthy. Not what I would support either.

"Bloody yanks"? Clearly you are not Polish and have exposed yourself as someone not from Poland. Never would that phrase come out of a Pole.

News / Previous Poland's government corrupting the media. [125]

@Ironside
Sure its an argument or a point. Poland under this government is sliding backward. No forward thinking or educated person could possibly support what is happening here. This "law" or "tax" that state owned media does not have to pay is designed to crush independent media and thus independent thought and perspective.

JK and the crew will do anything to keep people from learning and in turn coming up with new thoughts. They want a blindly following cult of Polish Catholics to waive the flag. This is not how democracy operates. It is not how society grows and how innovation is fostered. This is how countries fail, how they get left behind. If that doesn't concern people that really care about the country and not simply social and policy agenda, then not much will.
