Real Estate / Expatriate mortgages + Property in Poland [24]

I understand where you're coming from, however, I like to keep as much cash mobile as I can. Things can change very very fast in the part of the world I'm in right now, and I need access to a lot of cash in case of different scenarios. If the rates are low enough, it just makes sense to me to use the banks money, or to leverage equity in another property instead of needlessly sinking so much into one project at once. Thats my rationale at least.

Real Estate / Expatriate mortgages + Property in Poland [24]

Thanks PI, I am fairly confident that I want to buy a new construction home as there are several close to that point in the area I'm interested in. The cost to purchase flats in the same area are astronomical when compared to the new home prices. The idea of buying 2-3 flats for rentals crossed my mind, but the expected rents are just too low to justify it, it would be a poor return over a longer time than I'm comfortable with. I actually got pitched an investment the other day, I'd like to pick your brain via PM about it.

Real Estate / Expatriate mortgages + Property in Poland [24]

Good afternoon everyone.

Wondering if anyone has experience getting an expatriate mortgage, not from a Polish bank, as neither me or my fiance will qualify as we don't currently live in Poland. I know HSBC offers mortgages for expats within the UK, but wondering if there is an equivalent for Poland. Also, if there are any tips on home buying within Poland, things that someone from the outside might not know. I am not looking for a full term mortgage, something around 900k zloty that I'd pay off within 4 years, so if there are any suggestions or anyone is aware of something which fits that criteria please feel free to share your own experiences.

News / Did George Soros want to destroy Poland with his economic shock therapy? [87]

How many 9/11 hijackers came from Djibouti? Your point is moot as I'm no longer in the Gulf.

Fact: Gulf states are allied with Israel in the fight against extremism and terrorism. This is not 2001.

Fact: Gulf states are US security partners, Israel are US security partners. Working with either supports the interests of both.

This has been funny Harry, but truthfully your stupidity has exhausted me. So, I'm going to exile myself, I feel dumber having to do this circle talk where you cherry pick nonsense and try to string together a coherent argument.

Who is a mercenary? You really had to create a new account to spout your tripe? You are rushing to the defense of Soros because you agree with his policy of open borders. You joined 23 hours ago and your first post is an intimate knowledge of the Polish ESL teaching scene. Really original mate.

The Gulf states have partnered with Israel as security partners in combating radicalism and terrorism in the middle east. You are reaching mate.

Yes, we should believe Soros at his word that he was "only a spectator," some real spurious logic and mental gymnastics going on there to justify his collaboration with Nazi forces. If what you say is true, he was a passive participant and used his position of wealth to disguise his identity and he was bedfellows with the enemy in oppressing his fellow Hungarians.

@Taxpaying voter

What? His ethnic and religious background is immaterial to his actions during the war. I have the highest regard for my Jewish brothers and coworkers (Yes, Jews work here, shocking isn't it, we call that the CNN effect). I believe what Soros says, as he accompanies his Godfather around Hungary confiscating property from Hungarian Jews, directly from the horses mouth. He admits in his interview that he has no guilt and no remorse. A direct quote, "If I weren't there, somebody else would be taking it away anyhow [Jewish property]." (60 Minutes).

I have no idea what you're talking about, propping up evil regimes. America is a security partner of several M.E. countries AND Israel. Get out of here with that nonsense mate, stop talking about things you haven't the faintest clue about.

George Soros is an admitted Nazi collaborator of the worst sort, who helped to confiscate property from his Jewish brethren in order to save his own skin. That he was 14 years old at the time was no excuse. Many others stood for their principles, with honor, and died. A far preferable fate than being a traitor to ones own people.

Life / Why do so many Polish strive to be accepted by the West? [78]

@Ironside

Right, the naivety of those statements which are not based in reality, by someone who clearly has no formal education on the topic of those systems of governance, and is completely uninformed is laughable. Nor will I listen to someone tell me about Russians when they haven't lived with them, and they don't speak the language. Not that that should be the litmus test, but certainly I trust my assessment over someone who has not ever had to live under a Russian invasion, and live through Russian terrorism. In 2015 I had a car bomb go off on the opposite end of my street and kill a journalist, a present from Boris. Russians are Mongols, as evidenced by Putin's beady little Asian eyes.

@Ktos

No, it's not propaganda. I lived in a country being invaded by Russians, I had friends killed by Russians, and my friends mother had her apartment destroyed by an MLRS (multiple launch rocket system) with an 85km range, never exported by Russia in the town of Kramatorsk. They are NOT Slavs, they're Mongols, descendants of Ghengis Khan. Stop talking bollocks. Russians are a parasite on humanity, a virus. They would just as soon subjugate Poland again, and make every Pole a subservient vassal to Russia, if not for NATO. That is a FACT. For you to speak otherwise shows the effect Russian propaganda is having on YOU. It's an affront to decency that any Pole would speak this warmly about Russians. They are scum.

Law / Want to divorce wife - Need Help (married in Poland) [9]

Are you back in the UK? If you're married in Poland, wouldn't it just be easier to go back to the UK if you're not there, and kind of just forget about her? Or is there something to do with the EU which means a Polish marriage can be enforced in the UK? Genuinely curious how that works now.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

The stoicism doesn't bother me. It bothers me much more when I have to deal with Indians shaking their head side to side rapidly, I just wanna break their jaw when they do that so they can't move their head anymore, it drives me nuts. I needed one of them to wash my car not too long ago, and I kept asking him to do it, but he kept swaying his head side to side, so I thought he was saying no. In the scheme of things, that is retarded, where as Poles remaining stoic is no big deal.

I'm so confused, earlier you said anyone associated with communism needs to be banned from public life. Now you're saying some people lived quite well, were you being sarcastic in reference to the way party members lived in contrast to the vast majority of people whom they oppressed and made live in squalor?

Don't be daft. What does present day Asian society have to do with the misery that people lived in under 1930's Soviet Union compared to their counterparts in the West who lived considerably better lives, without being executed for exploiting the proletariat, or reading a banned book, or being committed to an insane asylum because your neighbor overheard you saying something critical of communism, or lacking heating oil in the winter, or being food insecure. Literally has nothing to do with one another, and I see that you prefer to play 'what about isms' instead of engage in a rational intelligent discourse, either because you are incapable of doing so and lack the knowledge on the topic, or because you are intentionally disingenuous and history does not fit your prejudices toward the west.

Life / Why do so many Polish strive to be accepted by the West? [78]

@Ktos

What planet are you living in? Hitler's treatment of soldiers from different countries? Stalin had his OWN soldiers executed who participated in the invasion of Germany because they "saw the west," and didn't want them flooding back into Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia to tell the people how sad and pathetic their lives were after 20 years of communism. The purges? Yea, they were ok. Get off it mate, you sound silly and you're talking to someone who did their thesis on the CIS.

@delphiandomine

I mean, I advocated for something even more extreme then that. Those people are guilty of crimes against humanity, sedition, and treason, and that they didn't have something akin to the Nuremberg trials which ended with those people at the gallo's I think is an error of justice.

@Ktos

Mate, I can take criticism just fine, you just sound utterly ridiculous. Who laid the conditions and groundwork for the invention of the internet you're typing on right now? The Soviet Union? You cast a lot of aspersions, but if you choose to do so and take issue with the west, then you people can kindly stop wearing our denim jeans (which you couldn't get during the USSR), listening to our music, using our iPhones, using our Facebook, or having medical procedures done pioneered by the conditions for which our great societies made possible such advances. Any innovation made in the USSR was made IN SPITE of the government, not because of it.

I didn't have to twist anything and I'm not trolling you. I took you to task over a statement you made which was factually incorrect. There were not bread lines and a shortage of commodities because of the "evil west," borrowing your goods. Those lines existed because of the corruption and mismanagement of your respective "People's Republics," and for you to suggest otherwise is not based in reality or historical fact. It is one of the most evil, vile, and destructive systems of governing people that our world has ever seen. Your wanting to offload this destructive inhuman system of governance as the fault of the west, as to why you lacked essential goods and services is evident of a specious logic and reasoning.

@Ktos

Jeeze dude....Your initial sentiment was good, but you just negated your points by giving some cover to the Soviet union. Nazi ideology was destructive for sure, and the Germans have done much to atone for that (and still need to do more, according to the Polish government), but no other ideology and system of government has been so utterly destructive to human freedom and human life as the communist/socialist ideology put forth by the Soviet Union and their client states. To suggest that bread lines and such were 'no big deal,' is an absurd notion on its face that is not worthy of discussing with rational well informed and well read people on the topic.

@Ktos

I think a hybrid is what Eastern European nations are striving for, at least that is what seems to be put into practice. Western European living standards, but with traditional values. I don't think that its debatable that Western medical standards are the best in the world, and therefore the status quo. People after all are not queing up to go to Slovakia for the most cutting edge and beneficial surgeries, quite to the contrary. For instance, you could do without the superstitions that sitting on cold surfaces in and of itself somehow gives you a magical disease for which there is no name, that is quite ridiculous really. Certainly capitalism as a system of economics has lifted more people out of poverty, and has created more wealth than any centrally managed government economy ever could hope to. The maxim that "if you want more of something subsidize it, and if you want less of something tax it," has rung true throughout the last century. We know that government is wholly incapable of picking winners and losers, and surely greater economic freedom to engage freely in contracts with other people has proven to be the best system of economic development. The idea of freedom of association and property rights has one the debate throughout the last 100 years, based solely on the evidence.

Communism for instance, is a great theoretical system when examined on paper. But, what we know through all of the times humans have attempted this, is that it leads to a contraction of economic growth, and more worryingly authoritative and autocratic governance where an inevitable contraction of human freedoms occurs. So I'm not sure that the east has provided humanity with lessons on how to govern other human beings which anyone in their right mind would ever want to emulate. No one has done as much to advance the idea of human rights and dignity, as much as western European and nations based off of that culture (US/NZ/AUS/UK/DE/FR).

News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

@Atch

Umm...we can vote in America through an absentee ballot. We never lose this right, since many do still pay tax either on property in the states, or for those of us who live abroad as expats, we pay tax on our income once we exceed $104,000. I will pay 28% tax on $6,000 this year. Plus when we earn bonuses, they are taxed at a 25% rate regardless of our income. Absurd to suggest you would ever lose your right to vote in your home country if you haven't renounced your citizenship.

Life / Bilingual kids in Polish schools [30]

@delphiandomine

Dude, you're trying to be a snobbish and pretentious English teacher, give us a break from it. Anyone worth their salt would be working for the American School of Warsaw, International School of Warsaw, or The British School, earning a respectable western salary, not putzing around in language schools. Please, spare us from your imagined ivory tower snide remarks, and know your f***ing place. You got called out for the stupid b/s you said in the other thread about banning me from the country because I work with our security partners, when Poland contributed thousands of soldiers to ISAF in Afghanistan, and left that thread with your tail between your legs. You come off as a bitter and unremarkable little man, that spews nastiness and hate at others for your own failings in life. Your perceived inadequacy's pour out onto every post you make trying to elevate yourself above your fellow man with absolutely no merit or basis for such feelings of supremacy of over others. I would suggest that you reevaluate the way your treat other people, and learn how to have differing opinions with others, without resorting to snide, nasty, and hateful passive aggressive remarks. I would have total respect for your opinion, as would others, if you shared your knowledge about teaching with us in a kind and respectful way. I would be really interested to hear your experienced about teaching in Poland, and I think the forum members could learn a lot. Unfortunately anything of substance you have to share is overshadowed by the crass and bitter way you speak to people. I think some serious introspection is needed on your part.

All of the old military trainers I work with have houses in PH, or go there on leave frequently, since flights from the middle east are frequent and cheap. Some are really old guys with giant guts (they don't PT lol), and they clean up there...there is a VA hospital there also...

Please back on topic

Life / Do you support Poland's frisk and search policy? [10]

@Joker

Stop&Frisk is an atrocious policy that disproportionately effects minorities and is the laziest of all policing methods. I give them credit for being proactive, but it really isn't a way to solve crime. I am looking at this through an American lense, and in that regard (saying this as a registered Republican), Guliani has no respect for core American tenets that the 4th amendment guarantees. The simple fact of the matter, and the case law is clear, you cannot stop people and search them, or ask for ID, unless there is reasonable suspicion to believe they've committed crime. Simply being brown and sagging your pants doesn't qualify. In Poland, I'm not familiar with their constitution, but I suspect that like most European countries they don't guarantee freedom of speech or the right of people to be secure in their person.

Yea, the unfortunate truth is that Phillipinos are pretty racist, and there is a hierarchy based on who has the most anglo features and who is whiter. In Thailand where my boss worked previously, girls wore hoodies in the daytime so that they wouldn't get tan. On "TFC" the phillipino channel, they only put forward the PH people who are mixed or have the whitest features, we get that channel on armed forces network so I watch it occasionally. I have friends who live in Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh, and that love me long time thing is a lot less pervasive than the other asian countries, Vietnam has a booming economy and a growing middle class, and with that comes less people willing to sleep with fat ugly westerners, lol.

Where did you get the number or 160? In 2016 135 officers were killed in the United States, 64 of them were firearms related deaths.

Firearms were used 338,000 times last year to stop forcible felonies, nationwide.

Disingenuous, dishonest, and just --- wrong. Denmark, Sweden, and Finland, when was the last time they invaded a Middle Eastern country? So far as I can tell, all they did was open their country to people who are in need, the people you're all advocating they take, and in return for their hospitality and very generous social welfare benefits, they are experiencing terror. Finland, a country who is neutral and bothers NO ONE. You took one pretty shameful remark, and decided to double down........Brilliant.

Well..................Kind of a pointless thread, we will continue to own firearms in the United States, and there is NOTHING ANY OF YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

I was also permitted to carry a handgun when I lived in Europe. Hope that irritates your liberal sensibilities a bit, an American carrying a handgun in Europe. We also have 5,000 American soldiers in Poland, probably don't like that either (neither do the Russians, you guys have a lot in common ideologically).

I have heard some very distasteful things on this board. However, you giving cover to Islamic terrorists who target and kill innocent people in the West, based on the foreign policy interests of those respective governments, is honestly stomach turning. You literally just spouted the SAME justification that the Islamists do for carrying out their attacks on European streets. Atch, you should be ashamed of yourself for what you just said.

Unfortunately you'll be hard pressed to shake that stereotype. The majority of nurses here in the middle East region are from PL, everyone refers to them as 'Nurstitutes', and it is pretty foul and distasteful to see mid 20 year old girls with 60 year old men.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

Why would Poland be attractive to them? Poland does not give large social welfare payments, or free flats to economic migrants and fake refugees. Poland values its culture and defends its Christian values strongly. Why would they ever want to go to a place like that, when they could go to Germany where the citizens are begging to bend over and have their culture destroyed. Much easier to go there, get big welfare payments, and rape German women en masse.
