News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

I read a few days ago three Arabs from Holland were caught in Gdańs

Yeah i heard that on the news too. I thought it was Gdansk too but I guess it's Gdyna (it's the tri-city area). Didn't know they were from Holland but yeah, they were definitely there to buy guns. It is very easy to buy weapons in Poland from handguns, to AK's, to even RPGs and if you know someone and have the cash old soviet tanks.

People who aren't Polish stick out like a sore thumb in Poland. Even though I'm white, brown hair and blue eyed, still people would stare at me and I know they could tell that I'm from another country - Polish yes but that I've been living abroad.

In other words, 96% of Poland's present popualtion say they are Polish.

Yeah exactly that's what I mean. It's most likely census data.

Oh boy, just wait till the liberals see you post something about Alex Jones, David Duke, Pamela Gellar, Glen Beck, Brother Nathaniel or any one from that crowd.

I find Alex Jones entertaining, but not the best source of information on many topics. Some of the things that he says are true and he uses good sources, but not always and sometimes his theories are just nuts and lack credible sources.

I'll still take Alex Jones over Al Sharpton anyday though.

Also, that's pretty fact that Albanian's stole people's organs. I think everyone's heard of the 'yellow house' before.

China still does this - they take the organs out of death row inmate and send them to Japan and other wealthy countries.

Islamists get most of their financing from drugs - especially opium and heroin, rich donors, weapon sales, government financing, extortion from locals, etc.

The Albanians run all the heroin and a good portion of the outdoor grade marijuana and hash in Europe as well as brothels, car theft rings, human trafficking, etc. A lot of the Albanian mafias would give funds to the KLA who later became heads of the Kosovo government, including Thaci.

Sorry Crow but really this is nothing new.

Stick to the topic please

I think they'd have it better in Guantanamo than a Polish prison...

For once a Muslim in modern Europe will have to adopt to the native Christians... this could be the start of something wonderful..

I'm sure the gryspers will be more than happy to cook you a kotlet schabowy in a frying pan in exchange for a cigarette or two ... halal kotlety? I don't think so :D

I could just imagine if you told a Polish guard that you demand halal food - ja ci kurwa dam halal, ty jebany darmojad. If he realized there's no such thing as halal pork, be prepared to get the bottoms of your feet beaten with a stick - won't leave any marks but you won't be able to walk without pain for a week. That was a favorite of the commie cops.

Poland does not need more Muslims - quite frankly, I'm happy that there is a small peaceful community of Tatars around Bialystok and Eastern Poland. I have no issues with them and I consider them to be part of Poland's society. Many of these guys fought against the Russians during the Polish-Bolshevik war and other powers too. They've defended Poland in many wars ever since the Commonwealth. Poland does need a little flavor - but importing terrorism and refugees with a totally different culture that refuse to assimilate and will live off the government and demand that the people adapt to them... no thanks...

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Now that I looked again, I thought of Persians : )

That's because the Sarmatian were Iranian of descent.

So yes, modern Poles do have Iranian blood in them.

This is something that Hitler and the Nazis studied a lot and led many excavations into Persia, Pakistan, Iraq, India - those areas. That was the basis of their proto-Aryan race theories - which does have a lot of scientific and archeological backing.

See the thing is, migration spread throughout Europe as metallurgic technology spread. Poland and Germany was actually quite behind in this - we were entering the middle/late bronze age while the Turks and Romans were already in the Iron age.

Modern Poles consist of a mix of a bunch of different ancient groups. Some of the ones from pre-Christian Poland that existed in the late Bronze/early Iron age of that area included the Vandals, Goths, Gepids, Rugians, Vendi, Huns, Sarmatians (which lived in the western part of Scythia), Nordic cultures, Celts, etc. who then formed city-states/tribes like the Polans, Pomeranians, Veneti, Sorbs, Wends, Slovans, etc.

I'm sure there could have well been a Sarmatian revival during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as the Scythians were probably the largest and most powerful of the ancient cultures that were a part of modern Poland. There were a lot of revivals of old cultures during the Renaissance, Baroque, and Victorian periods. In Italy, the locals revived the old culture of their ancestor's - the Romans - in their art, writing, philosophy, architecture, etc. In Victorian England, it was fashionable to have Egyptian decorations in your home and even have a mummy in your living room. Perhaps Poland was trying to revive their old culture as well and they may have thought it would be better to emulate the Sarmatian Scythians than the Gepids who were thought of as lazy rowers or the other cultures that may were a little behind the times as far as metallurgy is concerned anyway.

However, when you speak of Sarmatians in general to most people that is an ancient culture that existed around the end of Rome' reign. They would've been more on the south eastern borders of Poland and I'd imagine the Sarmatians probably had more influence on countries like Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, etc. I do know that the Hussars of Hungary shared a lot in common with the Hussars of Poland. To my understanding, the first Hussars were actually Serbs that fought under the banner of the Hungarians. Maybe Sarmatism became more popular as Poland's boundaries during the commonwealth stretched more towards the Black Sea - although I'd imagine this was most likely the nobles of the day that they had a proud, ancient culture.

I'm not an expert on pre-Christian Poland. However, the books and articles that I have read on this topic it would seem that the Vandals, Goths, Nordic, and East Germanic tribes had a bit more influence on the lands that include modern day Poland.

Again though, if I were a king in the commonwealth and doing some d**k sizing with Poland's neighbors, I'd pick the Sarmatians as my ancestors over a meandering group of barbarians such as Vandals, Goths, etc. too.

Here's what Poland would've looked like around 100-200 A.D. - keep in mind by the time of Mieszko I, and even the semi-legendary Popielec dynasty, these tribes would've intermingled and be known as the Veneti (north Poland), Polans (center), Pomeranians (Odra and Visla, anywhere near water - their name comes from 'of the sea' or people from the sea' - morze is modern day Polish for sea), Silesians/Sorbs (Silesia), etc.

The migration of these times is very impressive - if you look at this map you'll notice the Burgundians in Poland during this time period but several centuries later they were given their own kingdom in southern France/northern Italy - even known to this day as modern Burgundy.

History / What are Poland's pagan roots? [62]

I don't know why that one particular post got put in here because I don't think it has much to do with Poland's pagan roots - if I recall it was a response to Pol Attorney regarding something about priests...

Anyway, I wrote a pretty long article explaining Poland's pre-Christian past in the 'Sarmatian' thread. If you want to know more about proto-slavs, the tribes that lived in Poland prior to 966, the migration of cultures and groups in and out of Poland, check it out.

The way Poland's history as far as religion went is as follows:

pagan (people were mostly cremated - inhumations are rare) -> Arianism /pagan mix till 966 (different from Aryanism which is a racial ideology. Arianism is an early Christian belief that basically states that Jesus, as the son of God, is obedient to God the Father. Arianism faced much backlash and all but ended during the Council of Nicene which effectively eliminated Arianist beliefs under the threat of death) -> Christianity in 966 when Mieszko I converts from paganism to the version of Christianity as the Vatican dictates. This was widely a political move since it united the various tribes, prevented other Christian nations from attacking, and would serve as better ties among the more advanced nations in the area. Some Jews began to enter Poland since they were kicked out of almost every European country around the time of Kazimierz Wielki. He reaffirmed an old law passed nearly 100 years ago that prevented forced Christianization and Baptism of Jews, but it wasn't under Kazimierz Wielki that the Jews settled in massive numbers. Jan Matejko painted a famous painting of this. Then, some Tatar Muslims that were very loyal to Poland entered around the time of the Commonwealth. Poland had a huge Jewish population till WW2 when most were deported or killed. Presently, Poland is majority Catholic with small pockets of Jews, Protestants, and Tatar Muslims.

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Crow, ancient Iran was Persia and before that was Sumeria. The Scythians/Sarmatians were one of the many groups thay migrated out of this land.

The map above shows Poland in the 1st/2nd century c.e. The Sarmatians are located more near Ukraine, Hungary, etc. I'm sure there were some Sarmatians that came to Poland but they weren't the majority. Perhaps this thought and influence became more prevalent during the Commonwealth because Poland expanded to areas that use to be Sarmatian lands.

If anything most of the influence on pre Christian Poland during the migration period after the fall of Rome were Vandals, Goths, and other East German/Scandinavian/Baltic tribes like the Rugerians, Veneti (Wends) as cited by Ptolemy, Gepids, etc. Many of these tribes would end up fighting against the Huns and later allied with them during Atillas time.

The issue is that there is not much study into pre Christian Poland. Most Poles regard this as a dark pagan period, although Arianism was somewhat popular. Furthermore, there is not much archaeology aside from the Biskupin fortress and some iron tools left by the Vandals and Goths.

Crow I am familiar with the Etruscans, Thracians, Gauls, Kievan Rus, etc. I studied Latin for four years in high school and most of our lessons included translating historical texts, speeches, decrees, war diaries, etc.

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Are you sure that Sumeria later became Persia?

Sorry meant Elam which was basically the parallel to Sumer - general Mesopotamia area. You're right Sumeria was more Iraq near the Tigris and Eurphrates with Ur I believe being their largest city. However, much of the info that we know about proto-Persia actually comes from Sumerian writings like the Sumerian Kings List. Elam later became the Archamenid empire and later the Median empire. This general area was very very civilized compared to the rest of the world, especially Europe which was still mostly living as hunter gathers with no fortifications,

there was no Poland in 1-st century

I know - I'm talking about the people who existed in those times in pre-966 Poland.

t even any slavic tribes between oder and vistula. slavic tribes settled there in 5-th or something, coming to vistula area together with ostrogoths, from northern Caucasus and black sea area after fleeing huns. isnt?

Partially true. There is a bit of debate in this. The culture that would've existed in Poland, again going by modern day borders, would've been the Lusatians which were all over Poland, but developed originally in Lodz, and later became the Pomeranians that lived between the Odra and Wisla which mixed with the Przeworsk culture (contained tribes like the East German Rugians and Lemovi) that was already there. Also, the Veneti, which became modern day Wends/Wendish culture, lived from the Wisla to the north up to Gdansk and are thought to be a Germanic/Batlic people. However, again, this is debatable because most of the tribes like the Gepids, Rugerians, Veneti (Wends), Goths, Vandals were all Germanic tribes. There is a lot of debate on what the ethnicity of the Lusatians is (the culture before the Pomeranians) but it is said that they developed from the earlier Trzciniec culture which is proto-Baltic-Slavic. However, it is said that the Lusatians, which the Trzciniec culture developed into, had many influences from Northern and Western European lands like the Nordic culture and also La Tene culture (ancient Celtic culture) which is more pre-French/Swiss/German.

Some tribes were allied with the Huns and fought against the Romans and other local tribes while some tribes were allied with the Romans and fought against the Huns. Like the Gepids constantly fought the Huns, but then allied with them around the time of Attila. When the Roman empire fell and the huns gained power there were many tribes who migrated westward out of fear resulting in further mixing and assimilation of tribes in Poland/East Germany. The Gepids for example though, like the Rugians, are thought to be a Germanic people and either related to the Goths or a subgroup of them, and they lived in lands that are modern day Poland.

There really isn't too much written records about the slavs aside from Romans and Greeks describing the people who would've lived in Poland. The writing they had aren't too good either - could be propoganda - but we were described as very violent, leaderless people, that were rather disorganized but nonetheless endured hardships and refused to be conquered and subjugated. Our looks included fair to lightly tan skin, very tall and strong, often blue eyes and a wide range of hair colors from blonde, brown, to red.

So in summary, there were a lot of influences on Poland before 966 - Scandinavian (possibly?) Goths, East German Vandals, possibly local Przeworsk (included East Germanic people like the Rugians - who originally came from Norway - means Rye in old norse and similar to rzyto in Polish), Scandinavian Jastorf who's languages became modern day Germanic languages, the Basternae (thought to be a Germanic people originally from northern Poland - lived in the Carpathian mountains as their northern borders and mostly around Dacia which is mostly modern day Romania, they had language similarities to the Sarmatians and were thought to be a tribe or subgroup of the Sarmatian Scythians - could be correct but could also be due to assimilation)

Due to the lack of written records of this time period (unlike say Sumeria, Elam, Egypt) it is difficult to determine ethnicity for certain of these cultures. Researchers can only go by archaeology and cultural influences. Like for Lusatian culture we know they had Nordic influence by the types of bronze weapons and tools discovered but also possibly La Tene culture because of the decorative items and similarities of urns discovered in Poland were similar to those found in France, Austria, Germany, etc.

Here is an excellent source with a timeline of Poland history that goes from 9000 B.C. to the present:

If you are interested in learning more about Sarmatism in Poland there are many books on the topic. There's one called 'Sarmatians In The Polish Past'

As as Poland's pre-966 history, Tacitus and Ptolemy are probably the best written sources. Even they couldn't figure out the exact ethnicity of the people who lived in Poland (again, going by the modern boundaries) at the time but stated that they were similar in culture to the east Germans.

Here is a brief exerpt from a website:

The presumed ancestors of the szlachta, the Sarmatians, were a confederacy of predominantly Iranian tribes living north of the Black Sea. In the 5th century BC Herodotus wrote that these tribes were descendants of the Scythians and Amazons. The Sarmatians were infiltrated by the Goths and others in ...

everything.explained.today/Sarmatism

Here is an article from Tacitus around 100 AD describing the people that would've inhabited Eastern Europe - granted a bit east of Poland as during the 1st century most of the people that would've lived in modern day Poland would've been Vandals, Goths, Gepids, Rugians, etc. The Fenni and Veneti/Venedi lived a bit further east in Russia/Belarus but would've come closer to Poland throughout the european migration and also as the huns gained power.

Here Suebia ends. I do not know whether to class the tribes of the Peucini, Venedi, and Fenni with the Germans or with the Sarmatians. The Peucini, however, who are sometimes called Bastarnae, are like Germans in their language, manner of life, and mode of settlement and habitation.

The Romans, and especially the Greeks, didn't like the slavs very much because they'd constantly pillage their cities and destroy everything.

Ptolemy classes the Veneti/Venedi as being more closely located to the Baltic in the areas of Poland up to the Wisla in the 2nd century. A later author, Jordanes, states that the Veneti are the ancestors of Slavs and originated from around the Wisla and migrated outward.

There is so much mixing of tribes and movement in Poland from around 500 B.C. to 800 A.D. that it's nearly impossible to determine a single common ancestral group. The Veneti are oftentimes the most accepted - but even they, along with most of the others, are East Germanic people.

Persia, so why do you say Persia includes the Afghan people.

It depends what time period you're talking about. Gernally, though Iran has always been the center of the Persian empire except for the periods it was under Macedonian and Mongol control and also conquered during the Islamic conquest of Persia.

Median/Archaemenid/Pathian/Sasanian empires stretched from Afghanistan/Pakistan regions to Turkey but always included modern day Iran.

Generally though, Persia = Iran... Persians = Iranians..

Yes, R1a is not that common in Iran but subclade R1a1 is. R1a is thought to have originated from that around the Iran-Pakistan-India area, went through Central Asia, Russia, then finally Eastern Europe. There are many Poles and East Germans that are R1a1 as well as Pashtuns, Bedoins in Kuwaits, many Turks, and Iranian - however R1a isn't found there except for a small incidence in northern Iran. There's not many Europeans west of Poland that have R1a - most people in like France, Spain, Britain, etc. are R1b.

The largest R1a presense is seen in West Bengal Brahmins and north Indian Brahmins (technically castes) from India, Krygyz, certain Tajiks, Poles, Russians, and Ukranians. R1a-M458 is especially common in modern day Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Austria (surprisingly), and Ukraine. It's highest prevalence though is in the area of Poland, Czech Republic, part of S.E. Germany, and Slovakia - especially near rivers going to the Baltic. M458 however does have a small incidence in Turkey and the Caucasus.

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Sarmatia/Scythia was pretty much extinct by the time Poland had Lechtic tribes like the Polans, Silesians, Masovians let alone by the time Poland became a country in 966. Technically, Sarmatia was basically western Scythia but by the turn of common era, Sarmatian culture became a bit more dominant than the Scythian. The differences was basically a different supreme God and a larger role in society for woman than just cooking and making babies.

Around the 1st century, Sarmatia/Scythia was at its peak and it stretched up to the Wisla - so it is likely that they influenced the S.E. tribes of Poland (again, going by current modern day boundaries). So yes, Sarmatia probably did have a bit of influence on Poland and it looks like a revival occured around the time of the Commonwealth - perhaps especially since it included more south eastern lands that were traditionally Sarmatian strongholds. There is little to no evidence of Sarmatians living near the Odra or near the Baltic - those were East Germanic tribes like the Vandals and Norse/Germanic tribes like the Goths (Gotland in southern Sweden is thought to be the origin of the Goths).

Sarmatian culture is beautiful and I could understand why the nobles would implement it. They'd make a better impression adapting red boots, red cloaks, and intricate decorative weaponry as well as clothing would make a better impression than wearing barbarian type clothing and painting your skin blue. Plus ideas like religious tolerance, military technology, honoring ancestors, etc. helped with unifying the different cultures withint he society.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

Poland is very strong economically, yes that is true. It has a higher GDP than even countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, etc. which are typically thought of as super rich countries. The people, yes very high GDP per capita and PPP - but as the economy overall - Poland is worth more, then again Poland has 3x-4x+ the residents of Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, etc. I believe it's in 23rd place now - who knows maybe one day it will be in the G-20.

Militarily, Poland is not that strong. History tells us that Poland cannot rely on NATO or the EU to help in case of a military conflict. No one helped Ukraine either, aside from some non-lethal aid which actually Poland sent quite a bit, because they are all too scared of Russia

The top brass in Poland ought to really consider developing an underground nuclear program or some kind of WMD... just in case... Look at North Korea - they threaten people all the time and have an army with Cold War technology at best, yet no one will invade them even after they shell S. Korean island because they have some crappy nukes.

The war in Bosnia and Kosovo is widely regarded as the 'cradle of modern Jihadism' These are the same international terrorist groups that fought in Afghanistan against the Soviets, then Bosnia, then Afghanistan and Iraq again, and now in Syria and Iraq.

Easier said than done. How do you expect to do it with so many Russian spies and agents in all the top positions in Poland?

True. That's what the Czech did which was very smart after the revolution - they kicked all the Commies out and made sure they wouldn't go back into the government for at least 10 years. Poland did not and they remain in government to this day.

mid-level and lower positions

where most of the decisions are being made and implemented

I'd beg to differ... That'd be like saying the president implements his secretary's decision.... if society worked that way, things would probably be much better... people at the middle and at the bottom don't make the decisions - they're the foot soldiers that carry the big wigs decisions out...

Perhaps the middle and lower people analyze data, draw up documents, make suggestions, but it's usually up to the president, pm, chief justice's, and all the people at the top to make a decision.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Ask the Americans.

There's over 300 million of us so obviously there's going to be differences of opinion. Americans are totally brainwashed and indoctrinated by ZOG and Zio media.

The USA supports democracy, freedom etc, not dictators,

LOL doesn't support dictators? Of course they do - if they're friends of the US government anyway. The US will support the most brutal, genocidal governments if it helps the US expands it interests. Here's a list: Pinochet, Mobutu Sieko, Noriega (till he started trafficking drugs), King of Saudi Arabia, Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war, Khmer Rogue against Commie Vietnam for a while, Batista, AND EVEN HITLER FOR A WHILE - Yes, Roosevelt allowed US companies to trade with the Nazis for quite some time. Add all the African dictators that the US has helped out and I'm sure we can make the list of fascist, authoritarian governments that we've helped at least 30-40.

But has he violated it?

YES! Obama violated the constitution... his executive actions on gun control violate the 2nd amendment (he also illegally armed carels in operation fast and furious to help him establish stricter gun control), attacked countries like Libya without congress approval, renewal of the patriot act, circumventing the congress to pass immigration control, drone strikes against americans violates the 5th amendment, falsely claimed that the UN can override US congress, attempted to close down gun stores (operation choke point), government can seize anything according to an executive order made by Obama (total violation of right to property), Four Exec. appointments while the Senate was NOT in recess (Court has ruled unconstitutional yet the appointees still remain), going after states that uphold immigration (10th amendment violation), NSA collecting people's data (4th amendment violation), and many many more.

... and that's on top of all the illegal stuff he's done like using the IRS against the Republicans, violated bankruptcy laws with the Chrysler bailout, constantly circumventing congress to pass his own laws...

Obama acts like a dictator - he totally ignored congress and does whatever he wants to. He does not respect the balance of power whatsoever. He acts like a total dictator - announcing war without congress approval, authorizing drone strikes on US citizens, taking away people's gun and shutting down gun stores, signing executive orders stating that the government can essentially seize anything it wants to if it needs to. He basically acts like laws don't exist!

He ought to be cellmates with Hillary for high treason.

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

Those of us who cared for the Balkan people and donated know those facts

I remember this period very very well as I was in the latter part of grade school when this happened and paid close attention to it. I followed the war every night on the news and on the internet through my old school 56k modem. No one cared about the Serb's who died during the 90's. The fact is, prior to the supposed Srebnica massacre - there were 2,500 local Serbs killed- nothing of this was mentioned in the media. There wasn't much mention of the fact that after the Serbs met with the Americans and agreed to pull out their tanks in Kosovo and only use police officers to patrol the area. Well, the Albanians would constantly provoke the Serbs by killing cops, then the Serbs would go catch the perpetrators and kill them, then they'd kill more cops, then the Serbs would retaliate. Even Madeline Albright said that the Albanians were provoking the Serbs.

There were tons of foreign mujaheddin especially in Bosnia and later a bit in Kosovo. This was the cradle of jihadism in Europe. Later on, many of these fighters would fight in Chechnya and even later in Iraq/Afghanistan. Now, we're seeing them in ISIS and Al-Nursa/Al-Qaeda.Even over the past years, various news outlets would cite how the veterans of the Yugo and Chechnian wars were the most prized fighters ISIS and would be chosen to lead battalions.

These people are a threat to Europe and humanity worldwide - including even Muslims themselves because they view anyone that's not in their own clique as infidels. Even Al-Nursa (an Al-Qaeda affiliate/branch) fights against ISIS and vice versa because they consider each other infidels.

We've gotten to the point where the West is now helping Al-Qaeda. Even now Israle is treating Al-Nusra fighters in its hospitals.
Just think about this and put it into perspective for a moment... injured extremist Sunni terrorists being helped by Israel...

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

Keep Putin in power.

1. Putin has balls - he built up the Russian army and up until sanctions and falling oil prices the Russian economy was doing well. People are still earning far more now in Russia than during the early 2000s - double, nearly triple. A Russian made around 10k Rubles a year in 2006, now a Russian in 2016 makes around 32k Rubles a year. Our politicians in the West DO NOT have balls - except for maybe Clinton maybe because she's just brazen and doesn't care about anyone, will say and do anything she wants even if it means dead bodies and failed states along the way.

2. Russian economy is smaller than China and India but their military is very powerful. India, China, Iran, and dozens of others countries buy Russian weaponry. The economy in Russia is not very good though, it's worth more than Canada but worth less than India's - even much smaller less populated countries like Italy, France, and Germany have a larger economy in terms of dollar GDP value. It is nonetheless one of the G-20 nations and it's economy is worth more than other regional powers like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Nigeria, etc. I would say that the combination of having the most land, one of the top providers of military hardware, a G-20 economy, having more nukes than the US does make Russia at the near superpower level. The main thing that Russia is missing from being a true superpower is bases in other countries - which Russia is in the process of establishing.

3. The Western leaders are a bunch of spineless cowards - especially Obama. He is totally indecisive and when he does make a decision it's often one that's the opposite of what his advisors suggested. His 'red line' meant NOTHING when Assad supposedly used chemical weapons - although apparently now there's been a report released by a British firm that they were paid by the FSA who got money from the west to release chemical weapons so as to make the public think it was Assad.. but that's another case... It's a wide known fact amongst government officials that Obama has a 'my way or the highway' attitude. Look at Merkel even - she is a total weakling and she allowed her country to be invaded by foreigners without even trying to put up a fight. The West criticizes nations that build fences or walls and protect their border. They're called cruel, bigoted, islamaphobes, etc. The leaders that do have balls like from Hungary, Slovakia (I believe that's the country that said we don't have any mosques here and don't want to start, and other Eastern European leaders as well as people like Trump, Nigel Farange, or Gaddafi even, any 'strongman' is thought of as racist, authoritarian, Hitler-like, xenophobic when they're just trying to protect their country and its borders. It appears as if anyone that is against UN, EU, NATO, Central Bank, IMF hegenomy is automatically criticized.

Feed the Russian delusions that they are a 'superpower'.

Americans are just as brainwashed and have the same delusion that our economy is doing well and unemployment is low. Just wait till this stock bubble bursts and then lastly the dollar bubble. Every boom and bust is made by design - one section of the economy kept artificially high and prosperous till eventually it goes bust and a new one then rises, then goes bust all just made to shift focus away from the true value of the dollar. In just the past few decades we went from the dot com bubble to the real estate bubble to the commodity bubble to the current stock bubble. The majority of US stocks are way overvalued. People saying Facebook is worth $100 billion?! How?! They don't have anything besides some advertising revenue. There is NOTHING PHYSICAL propping up the dollar aside from the idea that it is the most widely accepted universal currency. There is no gold propping up the dollar like before. Already we're seeing countries creating basket currencies so they don't have to trade with dollars anymore. Russia and China are the leaders in this. Arguably the main reason why Gaddafi was killed is because he wanted to create a currency called the Dinar which would be used by Arab and Africa oil producing countries to sell their oil. This means that the US and Europe would have to first convert their currencies to the dinar in order to buy oil from Arab and African countries. Well, that was no good - oil is too important of a product and Gaddafi had to go.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

I agree - it would be wonderful if an individual could walk up to Obama, Congress, or even the Supreme court and present your case - explain that Obama is breaking the constitution, subpoena documents, present evidence, cite precedents, etc. etc. However, that does not work. The government, both the US and Western EU government especially England, gradually takes away from people's civil liberties, guaranteed under Constitutions (of course they vary from country to country) and totally disregarding the Bill of Rights so that they are not noticed the population. We have far fewer freedoms than we did in the 80's or 90's. The bureaucracy is so built up it makes the People's Republic of Poland like a democracy.

Soon, the population will have enough and will rise up - they will counter Henry Kissinger's quote of 'The illegal we do now, the unconstitutional we do later (gradually)' and will fight it with Jefferson's 'the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.' Society is beginning to wake up and realize that PC, gun control, invasion of privacy, executive actions from Obama stating the government can confiscate private property and kill Americans using drones - all these things combined are creating a real Tyranny controlled by a few. The society is brainwashed by the government and conditioned to expect 'free things,' redistribution, hatred of the 1%, (when it's really the neocon .01% that is pulling the strings and deserving of hatred), white guilt, and worst of all the next generation is being taught this in every school in the US across America. The hard working, Catholic church going, old school moral white man is living under tyranny. In Common Core classrooms, students fill out 'distribute the wealth worksheets' and practice eliminating 2 items from the 'outdated' Bill of Rights. They teach that the 2nd Amendment states citizens are allowed to have guns if they have passed a background check and have their guns registered (google images 'common core 2nd amendment'). They are taught how to draw the Shahada using Arabic calligraphy but Christmas trees are not allowed. The Zio media teaches us that we should love every color, race, creed, religion, and not question anything - tolerance is no longer enough. Children have images of transexualism and homosexuality ingrained into their heads more than just normal morality - waiting till your married is totally dead, which yes wasn't really practiced but at least it taught people to not be promiscuous and chose carefully who they are intimate with. You think my generation is bad with their PC, safe space, and white guilt? Just wait till the kids in middle school get to be 20-30 years old. The worst thing is, the Universities in the US are breeding this atmosphere - you have a guy living off mommy and daddy's money, driving a brand new BMW as a high school graduation present, and spending time out of their classroom at Bernie Sanders rallies or BLM terrorists instead of getting a part time job. Then they graduate and blame the 'capitalist pigs' on why they can't find a good job - while they're sleeping at their 'capitalist pig' parents' house still and driving their 'capitalist pigs'' father BMW. We'll see how fast these Commie Bernie Sander's supporters would 'redistrubite' their new BMWs and Mercedes to a poor minority.

The few people that do realize this and protect their children are called bigots, racist, gun-toting crazy right wingers, at worst Neo-Nazis. Soon, it may come to be that Child Services will be taking away children that are taught by their parents old fashion Catholic morals and traditions as it doesn't coincide with liberal, p.c. society - these parents will be deemed 'unfit,' The people that are attempting to hold onto the few freedoms they have are the biggest thorn in the governments side. Once they are disarmed totally, the government can do as they wish knowing no one will put up a fight. Creating a database to determine everyone's political agendas and views, finding out which of the 'threatening' types have weapons, and taking those weapons away is the last obstacle for the government.

There have been very few instances where a 'tyrannical' government was removed from power. Despite much dialogue and negotiations, history shows that people will have it up to a point and then violently revolt.

People are upset and they demonstrate and negotiate for a certain cause, the government will try to silence them if it threatens their interests, the people then get more frustrated that they are being silenced and ramp up their demonstrations and more people come to support them, the government realizes it has a problem and uses police or even military to use rubber bullets against the citizens, the people demonstrate further, trash streets, make barricades and arm themselves with melee weapons against the police, the police then begin to use live rounds, finally a clash between the government and the people takes place and if the people win a revolution occurs with a new government - at worst, a total civil war.

In just the past decade we've seen this in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Ukraine, Greece, and all over the Arab world and a toned down version in many European countries too. It will happen in the US and other western countries to a degree like we've seen in Egypt/Greece maybe even Syria once people have had enough. The problem is in the US people are too scared of their government and don't know how to make a revolution like people in the Arab, Asian, and European countries.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

The article also states that most Russians don't want a war with NATO.

The result would be MAAD if nuclear weapons were used. Russia simply cannot defeat all the NATO allied countries and conversely NATO cannot conquer and subdue all of Russia. The war would be a stalemate at best and at worst total destruction for all parties.

And for sure Americans would find a way to benefit from such a disaster.

The people that shorted American Airlines stocks after 9/11 made a killing. There were Muslims, and allegedly Israelis dressed as Palestinians (see Dancing Israelis). Which is worse? The people who profit from disaster, or the people who are overjoyed at the loss of innocent life? Both are despicable... human greed and cruelty have no bounds. Machiavelli would truly be proud of Western Politicians.

CNN Live on 9/11 regarding the Dancing Israelis:
youtube.com/watch?v=UMkX5uemLyk

Nonetheless, Poland is most definitely not Europe's only counterweight to Russia. It's one of a few buffer zone pawns... like Romania. The only reason why NATO was pushing to have missle defenses there is so that they don't travel past Poland - you'd be blind to think NATO cares about Polish security - there more worried about the bomb not traveling past Poland into France, Germany, UK, etc. If anything, out of the Europe's closest neighbors to Russia - Turkey would have the most powerful army (if you consider Turkey part of Europe anyway) but Russia would crush it in an all out war even if nukes weren't used. Russia spends bit more on it's military than UK and Saudi Arabia does and spending is gradually increasing - it's in 3rd place after US and China. When you combine UK, France, and Germany it's more than double what Russia spends on it's military. Russia and China combined is roughly half of US expenditure on military. No, money isn't everything but it's a good indicator. North Korea has some nukes weaker than Hiroshima and a million man army, but it can barely feed it. Nonetheless, no one will be invading North Korea anytime soon and likewise North Korea won't be invading anyone either. Same with Iran. isn't wealthy and doesn't spend much on military but is nonetheless a pretty strong regional power. No one is going to invade Iran anytime soon, and if Iran attacked Israel it would be wiped out shortly after.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

Poland don`t have problems with Russia.

No totally wrong Crow. Poland and Russia have been at it since each other's throats since a few centuries of establishing the Kievan Rus - sometimes the Russians won sometimes the Poles one. There was a point and time where Hussars were going around Moscow and Smolensk driving 30ft lances up the arses up the land of Boyars and also won the Polish-Soviet War. Then again, Poland was partitioned by Russia three times plus a Communist satellite nation and killed a lot of leaders, intelligentsia, soldiers, etc. during WW2.

At the current time, Russia is the country that mainly gives Poland it's headaches. They're on pretty good terms with most - even with North Korea they have business deals and trade agreements for seafood. They are worried about Russia because they are the closest superpower to them. Poland is scared of what happened in Ukraine and that one day Russia could come for them. Also, there has been a significant military build-up in Kaliningrad. Ultimately, Poland is a Nato buffer state with Russia - like Romania.

Polish and Russian relations went further down during the Smolensk crash and NATO's plans to put anti-missile sites in Poland. I personally would love to see Russian Polish relationships get better so Poland could get better trade. Russian goods are cheap and no one in the EU is trading with Russia because of sanctions. It's tense to say the least, but it's not as bad now as is has been throughout Poland's history.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2971]

I don't know why people always get their panties all up a bunch about abortion - yeah it's sad but it's a necessary evil nonetheless. I didn't see anything about an abortion when the woman was raped and doesn't want to keep it in that website that OP posted - so I'm assuming you can't get an abortion either if a woman is raped or if you are unable to raise children. Sometimes an abortion is the lesser of two evils if you know you can't raise a child and that child's life will be awful or the father will never be there. Personally, if I were a woman in Poland and got pregnant because I was raped or very poor, I'd save everything I could to get an abortion in another country.

It's homing pigeons actually, or at least that's what we had.

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Sarmatians existed (notably) from 50BC till 100/200AC. Problem:

You're right - it would've been probably before the migration and up to the migration. From what I read, Sarmatia was pretty much done by 200. The local tribes most likely mixed with the Sarmatians quite a bit. It appears that the Sarmatian culture was dominant but did have some characteristics of the already local East German tribes. I think that the tribes would've had a Sarmatian dominant culture though. During the migration period we see those people then get further mixed during the migration period, settling into city-states, and ultimately being united to form a nation in 966.

Yeah there is very very few records about the Veneti, Gepids, etc. Most of what he have is from Roman and Greek politicians and military leaders as well as academics like Ptolemy. The interesting thing though is that their religion is thought to be very similar to Greek and Roman mythology. Like the god of lightning would've been Perun, based on Zeus/Jupiter. We do have some pagan traditions and rituals in Poland though to this day - there is one particular popular one that involves making a female like effigy and drowning her in a river or settling her ablaze.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2971]

wealthier women will just go abroad

Yeah pretty much. Only other options would be to try to get the abortion pill illegally - and I don't think that works after some period of time. I don't know - people need to be more cognizant about the child's future and not just keep having a bunch of unprotected sex like rabbits.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2971]

What being poor has to do with getting pregnant?

I am saying that poor women will have it much more difficult to keep a child. A parent ought to provide clothing, shelter, food, education, medicine - all these cost money. It is much harder for a poor person to provide. Furthermore, a child that is born with some serious birth defect has hardly any quality of life. If the parents cannot afford the costly treatments, psychiatrists, therapies, special schools, and well as constantly being around the child it really makes things difficult - for both the child and the parents. The parents will wonder who will take care of the child once they are gone or simply are too old to work and care for the child. What then, especially if they are middle, lower-middle class Polish family?

I was a fan of the PiS government - I like their economic policies, I'm glad they're being tougher on foreign investors taking advantage of Polish economy, and I'm glad that to see that they wish to give 500 zl to Polish families with more than 2 children.

However, this is a blatant violation of separation of church and state. The only reason they did this is because they control both houses and it's going to be that much more difficult for PO or any future governments to overturn it.

No matter how you look at it, abortion is a necessary evil. You can't fault a woman to terminate a pregnancy that was the result of rape or incest.

Which for the very poor in Poland could be an impossibility.

I know - that's why I am firmly pro-Choice. I identify as a conservative but PiS really went too far with this. The only choices a Polish woman would really have is go to a neighboring country like the Czech Republic where abortions are legal and not as expensive, finding a sympathetic local pro-choice doctor, or buying RU-48 off the black market - which you don't know if it's the real thing or a Chinese/Indian counterfeit with little to no active medicine.

This is a slippery slope. I am a practicing Roman Catholic but I still believe in separation of church and state. What's next - a PiS ban on condoms? How can you guys be totally supportive of this ban yet lambast Iran and other Muslim countries for being theocracies? Poland is already backwards in terms of social services. There is little support for the people on the lowest rungs on society - the alcoholics, the abused woman, the drug addicts who want to get clean, the gays, etc. I don't think pray the vodka/abusive husband/gay away is going to work for the majority of people...

The upper-middle class will be fine with this ban - it won't really matter to them. They can take a train or a plane to a number of local countries and have the procedure performed in a professional setting. This ban is going to hurt the people who need it most - the poor since they won't be able to afford travel and high medical costs.

I really hope that this ban is changed soon.. the last statistic I heard was that around 1900 women have abortions a year in Poland. Seems like a lot of time and money spent on something that only a minor percent of the population participate in... There are much bigger issues at hand - leave the women alone.

Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

Crow,

You are a bit off in your description of Sarmatian influence - they did not expand that far west and their empire was essentially assimilated with other local grounds as they moved west around the time of the Huns. Perhaps it could've reached Austria, Germany, Switzerland, maybe even northern Italy but no way did it go as far as England and France. The Gauls were the dominant people in France throughout the Roman empire. The Sarmatians/Scythians did influence the countries around Eastern Europe - modern day Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Serbia, Hungary etc. However, it also had a lot of East German, Norse, and even Celtic (La Tene culture) influence. Most of those western European countries you describe like France, Germany, England were Roman provinces and the locals were mostly barbarian tribes with a Germanic/Norse/Celtic mix. The most prevalent culture of this period (Roman empire) was La Tene which grew out of the earlier Hallstadt culture. Here is a picture of tribes that would've existed in Western Europe around 500B.C. to 100 B.C. - the Sarmatians existed at roughly the same time - 500 B.C. to 400 A.D. with 300-400 A.D. being the timewhen the Huns were gaining a lot of influence and pushing the local people further west. The Sarmatians intermarried and mixed with local East Germanic and Norse tribes - at least in Poland - like the Vandals, Goths, Rugii, Gepids, etc.

Here is a map of how Europe would've looked like in Hadrian's time - 100's C.E.

Pliny the Elder writing in the 1st century about Sarmatians:

From this point (the mouth of the Danube) all the races in general are Scythian, though various sections have occupied the lands adjacent to the coast, in one place the Getae (this would be modern day Hungary/Romania) ... at another the Sarmatae ... Agrippa describes the whole of this area from the Danube to the sea ... as far as the river Vistula in the direction of the Sarmatian desert ... The name of the Scythians has spread in every direction, as far as the Sarmatae and the Germans, but this old designation has not continued for any except the most outlying sections ...

Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

Check out some articles on the Marcomannic War aka German and Sarmatian War - this was a war fought between the German/Sarmatian peoples vs the Roman Empire. A lot of what we know about the various tribes existing in Poland, Germany, etc. as from Roman accounts during these wars as well as some writings by Ptolemy, Pliny, various Greek and Roman statesmen/military brass, and to an extent Jordanes. Here is another map from this time - note that the people that lived during this time i.e. Rugians and Gepids are grouped as general 'Goths' and Wielbark Culture.

History / Sarmatism in Poland [119]

Over 100 years ago Wilhelm Bogusławski proposed these names in "Dzieje Słowiańszczyzny północno-zachodniej do połowy XIII w.":

He is correct - those groups you mention are just some of the more than 20 groups that would've fallen under the 'Lechite' branch - modern day Slavic people that spoke similar languages and lived around Poland. Again, he's referring to 'do polowy 8 wieku' around the time of the Christianization of Poland. Mieszko I stated that he wished to unit the various Lechite groups - Lugii, Venti, Gepids, Rugii, Polans, Silesians, etc. If we're going by specific tribes and groups then yes, those would've been the people who dwelled in Poland around the 8th century. However, these tribes/small city states would've origined prior to the 8th century from a mix of Vandal/Goth/Norse/East German/Sarmatian mix - of course depending on area - the people near the Baltic like the Rugians would be more influenced by Norse/Goth than say Lugii which would've been more influenced by Vandals/Germans and possibly Sarmatians even. The Lusatians were way before this time (1000BC-500BC).

The Lugii have been identified by many modern historians as the same people as the Vandals, with whom they must certainly have been strongly linked during Roman times

Also, remember that sometimes names like Lugii or Vandals can be interchanged - depending on how specific we want to get. Herwig Wolfram:"In all likelihood the Lugians and the Vandals were one cultic community that lived in the same region of the Oder in Silesia, where it was first under Celtic and then under Germanic domination."
