Welcome back FISZ. Yeah, the polar bear myth is a classic. :)

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

Not really, but it's true that just by modifying the word "pierdolić" you can say many things. Actually what's the purpose of this thread? I don't get it. :(

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

There are many things other than swear words, that polish people could be proud of. It's a pity that people waste their time writing about the vulgarisms rather than focusing on the positive aspects of polish culture.

It's a world wide phenomenon. Sometimes when i hear what some teenagers are talking about I start to lost my faith in the mankind. :) And I'm not thinking now about English teenagers. I guess being dumb is starting to be randy these days. :(

I don't you mean randy..lol (what's on your mind at the moment) I think you may have meant trendy...

:) I don't any Randy, I swear. :)

The art of conversation is being deminished, people have personal stereo's people prefer to sit in front a square box and not converse with others...I think what people read has a lot to do with it and a lack of interest in world

Yah, television plays a big part in this process of "debrainisation" :) of teenagers around the world. Stupid movies like “American Pie” where the only interest of young people is to shag, music for halfwits that says only about shagging, text messages that basically limit the amount of words a teenager uses, etc… Those bloody youngsters! When I was their age… :)

I mean I dont think you meant....

Oh. :)

Anyway, you're only in your early 20is so you are one of them...bloody youngsters!!!

:) I don't mind it actually. :)

As for the whole texting thing, I am guilty of being a bit of text monster, but I dont really abbreviate since I use predictive text

I've noticed that I started to have some problems with grammar because of the text messages. that goes both, for my english and polish. That’s why I am trying to write properly using the punctuation marks, capital letter when required, etc... I still make many mistakes but I think that I'm slowly improving. :)

News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

I guess that I also am a little bit ignorant sometimes, so I don't want to judge people, but on the other hand, when a person lives in Europe and doesn't know what are the rest of countries present on this continent, then it just makes me wonder what has he been doing on the geography class. :(

I quite liked dzien Swira....maybe i am bit weird?

Your definitely not weird. It's the best Polish comedy made after 1989, if not in the entire history of Polish cinema!! :)

I know Amathyst. And thanks BTW. :) The person that started this thread really must lead a very boring life since he troubles himself with such silly problem. :)

I've been to Poland twice now and I can honestly say I haven't noticed anything strange about Polish apart from there was a lot more totty knocking about!

What’s that?

USA, Canada / Polish TV in the USA? [43]

Stop watching Polish soap operas. People that play in them aren’t even worth to be called actors. The same as in the UK. :)

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Personally, I've found Poles to be polite in general. But they also usually laugh when I say that. So, I'm not sure what to think. Older people seem to be extremely polite!

Because Poles are masters at self-criticism. :)

Again, the way to address stranger's is in Polish in the third person- to Anglo-Saxon's this seems excessively polite but if this is the way one has been taught it is normal- it would be rude if one says "you" if one does not have their permission, especially to the older generation.

Third person? Do you mean addressing people per Pan/Pani(Mister/Madam)?

Yes- although I'm not sure this is the correct way to express it in English.

Yeah, I think it's not possible to find an English equivalent.

ive been asked for a fight twice in the last couple of weeks when this has happened...

You see, you have been ASKED! Now that's what I call polite, and proves that even in those kind of situations Poles know how to behave. :)

Quoting: professays
Is the word Lah abusive?

put it into context, Profe

Lach is just another name for a Polish person, used by Ukrainians, Russians and Turks. It's not offensive, although taking under the consideration the history between Poles and those nations I guess that some people might use it in a rather abusive context. :)

Just over 6ft, a good height for a man Like you say it all depends Im 172 but I have friends that are much shorter and much taller

What? He's 183 cm and he has a good height for a man, and I with my 181 cm am a short repellent and weak midget! How cruel! :( :)

Would you at least consider to wear one inch smaller heels for me? I'm maybe short by at least broad and I use my small legs like a bloody Baryshnikov! Even wear the same tights! :)

Work / Want to live and work in Poland, but it is not possible? [19]

Are you saying that you don't have to register (as a Pole) to work in Poland? He has been living here for seven years (In London). He supports his wife financially, - because she can't go back to Poland and get work because of him. I can't see how he can't work there but can work here, surely that must be illegal?

Hmm I'm not sure why he says he can't work here, but I do understand why he doesn't wan to go back. If he does he will have to pay the back tax. Only people that started to work after the 1st January 2007 don't have to pay the double tax in Poland. 7 years? That would cost a fortune. :)

Work / Want to live and work in Poland, but it is not possible? [19]

Besides tax office can claim taxes only 2 or 3 years back.

That's a relief. Few of my friends received letters from the Urząd Skarbowy here in Poland with the warrant to pay the back tax. One lived in GB for 10 years and always have paid the tax in the UK so probably that’s how they tracked him.

As for men in tights, no thanks they're in the bracket as men with high heels...

You would change your mind after seeing me dance wearing them. :)

As for me, I'm a midget compared to all of you. I'm 5 ft. 2 inches. I don't know how to convert to cm but I used an online converter and it says it's 157.48 cm. It's 62 inches total.

All my girlfriends were about this size. I like petit women. :)
