Travel / Travel by bus/train from Warsaw to Gdansk without prior reservation? [18]

To answer your questions:

1. Polski Bus is reliable and you have to buy a ticket online for that (and be able to print it)
2. Some trains require you to buy a reserved seat so prior purchase is required (reservation). Otherwise, technically you will have to stand during the whole journey.

Language / Pomówić usage [5]

Polish verbs have aspects: perfective and imperfective. Pomówić has indeed two meanings: to falsely accuse but also: to talk. So in this case, 'pomówić' is a perfective aspect of a verb "mówić" and it means the same as: porozmawiać.

These are two different declensions of the same word "nic"

Idąc na spacer Jan zwyczajowo nie zabierał ze sobą niczego i nawet jeśli spotkał po drodze jakiegoś świra to niczemu się nie dziwił.

Food / Golabki - Oven or Stove top [11]

That's mainly because they're made in bulk amounts, with the intention of giving them to family members & friends 👍

So true. My mom makes them oven/stove top, in that order. However NO rice in gołąbki!!! Never ever! Only cheap eateries do that!. Another big no-no are onions!. I'd rather put some rice near my gołąbki, but oh Lord, never onions :)

Travel / Incorrect passport date on boarding pass [13]

The number and everything else is correct the expiry date just doesn't match on the boarding pass and Wizz is unable to change it.

How about going to a Wizzair stand in the airport and asking them if they see it as a problem? If they do, they surely can change it there.

Travel / Can anyone help me find the cheapest way to get from Warsaw to Vienna? [13]

Since my thoughts of immigration sit inside of me for a past few years, I'm getting convinced Poland would be the place to settle on, well that's another topic I guess

When you do, don't forget to bring the sunshine here with you, which we so often lack in our rather lengthy winter season!

Life / Tips on tipping in Poland [45]

I'd say typically it's 10% in restaurants. Taxis - no tip usually but I do let them round the amount. Hotels? No prevailing rule. If you stay for a longer period of time you could leave some money for the cleaning lady - use your own judgment here.

Language / Please help me understand Polish adverbs [30]

One that I always found funny was saying dobra instead of dobrze for a way to say okay. Can any Poles confirm this one?

Indeed. It's widely used in spoken language. Neither technically correct nor seen much in writing.

Language / Please help me understand Polish adverbs [30]

Spoken language is endlessly fascinating to me and how the spoken/written language can differ so much.

Agreed. It is like that in any language. English including.

Language / Please help me understand Polish adverbs [30]

How is this dealt with in Polish? Is it prevented from by the possibility that Polish has more specific verbs than "smell"? For instance, two words instead of one, one meaning to give off an odor, and the other meaning to commit the action of trying to smell something.

Indeed that is how it works in Polish. Wąchać/Powąchać: Wącham kwiatki (I am smelling fowers), and then there is also a verb Pachnieć: Ona dobrze pachnie (She smells good)

News / Poland has the most dangerous roads in Europe [34]

Barely a trip passes when I don't see 2 cars nearly collide at a crossroads

We must live in different countries. I drive carefully and am kind to pedestrians and most others around me too.

History / Poland must get back Lwow, Wilno and Brest back [318]

Yes, it's true , but some nationalist circles in the Ukraine and Byelorussia like talking about
Przemyśl, Białystok

Last time I visited Grodno, our local taxi driver said: "Stalin should have drawn the border a bit east of Grodno, we wouldn't mind"
