Travel / Lublin ruined by arrival of Ryanair [33]

Rest in peace everyone :-), all those Lubliners who had wanted are already in Dublin, London or in other UK/IRL locations. This connexion will just facilitate transportation and Warsaw airport will suffer as a result (not like I care). And I doubt that Lublin will draw huge crowds from the Isles, it's just too quaint.

Language / Polish words with consecutive identical letters? [17]

śsak

it's a good example: ssak, but wrong spelling (as per above). Should be double "s". And from that comes the verb: ssać, obviously.

Also, check out the meaning of: "czcze gadanie", and "na czczo".

Food / The great British teabag hunt thread [66]

Polish/Slavic little teapot

LOL..... the method of preparation you describe is somewhat antiquated, probably the oldest people only use it in Poland nowadays. Even my 70+ yo folks do not. The best tea is made fresh, whether in a slavic or non-slavic pot (LOL). Keeping "esencja" sitting around for 2 days doesn't add to the taste of tea in the least.

Travel / I am Travelling to Warsaw in November and want to stay close to the nightlife [5]

The Victoria

It is now referred to as Sofitel..... anyway, same place.

Related: Traveling to Poland this November any advise as far as nightlife goes

I'm making plans to spend a week and a half in Poland this November, I know a salsa festival is taking place around that time, could anyone offer any kind of feedback about it, or offer valuable advise regarding nightlife in Poland. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Poland is big. You might want to be a little more specific.

Language / how do you pronounce the word niesamowity? [8]

The difference is all in one final letter.

There are no two words here. The difference in suffix relates to gender.

Niesamowite - neuter
Niesamowity - masculine
Niesamowita - feminine

Travel / where to book train from Warsaw Chopin Airport Station to Gdynia [3]

I seldom use this mode of transportation, however since we're off season here, please arrive at the railway station, look around, find your connection and buy a ticket :)

Also, you can buy your ticket while on the train, just be sure you have PLN money on you. :-)

Starbuck's is on Level -1

Travel / Driving to poland from the west midlands [11]

You're all trying to scare the poor chap? Is that it ? :-). If driving across Europe was that complicated as you describe no one would ever travel anywhere :).

Law / All 4 of my grandparents were born in Poland - Canadian living in the UK, looking for Polish Citizenship [12]

Am I able to seek citizenship?

I hope that you are indeed able to try. If your grandparents were citizens and at least one of your parents as well then you ARE a citizen and indeed you need simply to file for confirmation of that fact (a lengthy matter in itself). If none of your parents was a citizen (eg. never bothered to obtain confirmation thereof), you stand no chance of confirmation. But then there are other ways to obtain citizenship, however complicated they may be. Go to any polish embassy websites and read relevant information.

Life / Do Poles drink before noon? [95]

Their Polish relatives will probably butcher a pig

Those were the 70' to early 90' realities.

News / Characterizing Poland's political parties [33]

PiS - let rebuild Polish state and then debate about details.

LOL. That joke made my day! :-) Otherwise Polonius3, you are quite right with those labels, and PIS indeed is socialist when it comes to economic matters. In fact they don't care for those matters as they know nothing about them.

UK, Ireland / Poles becoming British subjects [39]

Work in a coffee shop for a few years, pay minimal tax, stick to your own compatriots and become new British/Irish.

Madness, really.

I know of a much swifter and more successful career. However they are in Vegas now... so can't even try to lure them to here. Oh, and one of them is not even from PL but from Ukr.

Law / Car Insurance in Poland (A/C) [32]

Strange. Somehow, my insurers have always asked me if anyone else but me would drive the vehicle. They are specifically inquiring if anyone under 26 yo. would be using it. I always say, no, no... and they adjust their rate accordingly.

Law / A bank that suits my priorities? [6]

... and it also s/b mentioned that cheques are not used in PL at all. We simply skipped that stage of development of banking industry.
