Law / Poland and the Euro - benefit for Polish economy? [49]

Which makes sense given that you loaned a considerable amount of cash from them.

Hi Ya Delphiandomine

One of the reason's why the EU had to bail us out was because when we got rid of our punt, the irish banks could access all the euro's they wanted. But anyway, we learned our lesson I think.

If you get the chance to vote for it, turn it down. The Irish got to vote on it, said yes and now we have no control over anything. The German's get to see our budget's before the public. The price of everything will go up. It would also mean a lot of Kantor's could be in trouble, no more ccy change for most european's.

Love / English man dating Polish lady [5]

Why do you need a Polish lady? Just expand your social circle and maybe you will meet someone you like's you for what you are. It's not like picking a car and saying you want German or French.

Law / Bank accounts taxed by up to 10%. Can it happen in Poland? [150]

thejournal.ie/cyprus-reject-eu-bailout-deal-837758-Mar2013
The government have voted against it and now they will try something else. The Brits flew a million euro over for the soldiers and their workers and gave them the choice of having wages paid into a british bank.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

the latest is that a french company has being supplying frozen meals in the uk and Ireland with 100 % horse meat, even worse, is it contains traces of drugs that are harmfull to people. Expect a lot more of this to come out in the following months.

The minister has already installed a number of people in silvercrest and told it to get rid of the management(which they have). This action needs to be extended to the Polish site's(owned by Larry Goodman). Look his history up, you would not think it was true. He supplied Iran and Iraq with beef, then left holding a bill for 50mil euro when the UN placed sanctions and the 1st gulf war kicked off.

Horse DNA was not picked up in the UK until Ireland found it. The UK plants were using the same supplier. The UK guys never checked for it until we told them

Silvercrest imported a product from Poland, which it should have fully tested first(as in every product from every country). The people that buy these burgers, are the people that have to count every penny. It is not a good idea to buy 12 burgers for 2 euro.

I will say though that the irish wholecut beef is great and I will still eat it, but I have not touched a burger since this started.

Silvercrest has lost about 45 million euro in contracts so far, so I think the company might be going under. But the processing plant they have is one of the biggest in the country and the government will try to help to find a buyer and save the jobs(for whole cuts of meat)

Monia I did not create the title of the tread. I am not blaming Poland as a country for what is going on. The supplier was supposed to provide 100% beef, they did not. As may be the case in ABP, the supplier could be owned by someone from another country. Yes if a company supplies something, then they are responsible for what they supply. I'am sure there are more than 14 plants, so you can not say until all have being tested.

I do not blame a country for the mistakes of a company. I love Poland, my Polish wife, my Polish inlaws(ok not all the time the mother in law).

That you tube link is of a bunch of idiots that think its great to get a horse but they can not afford to keep it. The Irish have a very strong tradition of looking after horse's, ask anyone. The Irish race horse is one of the best in the world. That is why the Aga Khan keeps his horse's in Ireland. Why would he put a 5.9 million usd horse in Ireland if he thought we would not look after it.

And by the way do not link us to the Brits. We are not the same

There is a update that 75% horse DNA was detected and it was never used. It was done on the raw material imported from Poland. It could be anyone's company, my money is it is linked to ABP

Great another company in Ireland has found horse DNA in imported meat from Poland. The company provides burgers to McDonald's and to a number of countries in Europe. Think I will stick to pure cuts of meat now, no minced up stuff.

Actually Ireland exports a couple of truckloads of horse meat every week, 12000 horse's a year in 2011. I have had horse in France and thought it was great. There was a thing on RTE last year about truckers, and one of them was driving a load of horse meat from Ireland to Italy. He does the trip about twice a month.

USA, Canada / Homeless Poles in NYC [25]

I know of some hostles in Dublin and London that allow drink to be consumed in there rooms as long as they do not start fights or get disruptive. I think a lot more work needs to be done to get these people off alcohol and fill there days with activities that fill there day's. If you are on the streets, it is so boring, so you are going to start abusing what ever you can that makes you feel better for a short time.

A person living on a street that has a drink problem is not different to a person that lives in a apartment that is downing just as much alcohol. The person in the apartment could end up on the street within a couple of monhts.

UK, Ireland / English/British rudeness - what do Polish people think about it? [98]

I always hold a door open for either female or male if they are with in 2 or 3 feet of the door. Almost every time I get a thank you. I like a door to be held open for me if I am with reaching distance of it.

It does not cost anything to be polite.

Language / Good book with audio in Polish? [11]

I also got the same book with cd in Empik. It is okay, but the best way is to listen to podcasts that have english audio description. Also my wife's family were all able to be speak English, so it kind of made me to make more of a effort to listen to and learn Polish. I ask my wife to speak Polish to me, just a hour or so per day, and we have marked everything in the apartment in Polish.

The book and cd is fine, but if you speak to a actual person and listen to podcast's it gets easier.

UK, Ireland / Dying Polish woman in the uK whose last wish is to spend last few weeks back in Poland [50]

No Government will say it will pay for medical flights for expats back to their country(Irish government have done this in the past). All I was trying to get across on this post, was that people regardless of where they come from or what they are going through will try to help people.

I do not want this post to become a post about weather governments will help, I wanted to appeal to people to do a good thing. That has being proven by the amount of cash that has being lodged.

The good news, the flight is being booked next week. Lets hope she will make more Christmas

This story is just so sad, but on a positive 20k euro has being raised so far, and only a another 5k to go so that she can get a special medical flight.

thejournal.ie/young-mum-e20000-dying-wish-leukaemia-641662-Oct2012/

It show's no matter how hard a recession is going on, Irish and Polish people will still think of others before themselves.

Update, I just checked the online fundraiser, they now have almost 27k euro
