Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

My point in not naming my country, nationality or race is not to be fascist, or as a Pole would call it, being "Patriotic" about the colors of a flag or a race or the name of a country.

but why make a secret out of it? Something tells me, you're not very proud of where you're from (no big deal though).

Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

or do you still want to insist that everyone in Poland earns 1,500 a month.

I hope you realize that the numbers are not showing the reality of income in any country? Some people are making 10k+ and that's why the numbers are so impressive. Skip the top earners and you'll see how much an average Pole really makes. You'll see, it's way beyond your expectations. It works the same way in any other country too.

The yard is going to be the best-paying employer in the shipping industry in this region,” said Arkadiusz Aszyk, board member of the GdaƄsk Shipyard.

So welders and fitters are in the top 1%?

Spin it any way you like, it's not what you want to hear.

"The yard is going to be the best paying employer in the shipping industry in this region" - I couldn't ask for any better confirmation for what I said earlier. Now go ahead and ask a lady working at a retail store, hair salon or even a teacher (etc.) how much they make and we'll come much closer to reality.

I guess, it's not what you want to hear ;-)

well, not to be a downer, but 100,000 USD doesn't get you a whole hell of a lot anymore

it depends where in the states.

UK, Ireland / Crying Polish truck driver on British roads is Internet hit [269]

Nice to see the British are all about harassing hard working, honest people.

C'mon Plastic, let's be honest about it, the way he behaved, he would get in much more trouble in many other countries. The cops took care of business, that's all. He can't be parking on the shoulder just to cook his dinner, be for real.

He was hungry.

With all the thieves, traffickers, drug dealers and other dishonest people, let's do the logical thing and treat the guy earning his living driving a truck like the worst of them all because he parked on the shoulder so he could grab a quick bite to eat. OMG that is definitely the worst thing anyone can do!

it's not a crime but it's illegal and dangerous to park on the shoulder to peal potatoes. If he understood what they were saying, he'd pay the fine and they would let him go (most likely) and we wouldn't have anything to talk about now.

Is it dangerous? Well, it's dangerous leaving your house. It can be dangerous in your house. The world is fraught with danger

Yes, it is dangerous and while it's also illegal, the cops did what they had to do, especially because they were acting accordingly to his irrational behavior, screaming, yelling, crying. To them, ti must have occurred irrational, not understanding what he was saying, judging only by the way he was doing it.

He wasn't acting that strangely. His behavior was not irrational.

Well, to me he did, sorry. Ask people who don't understand any Polish how they feel about it and judge him only by his actions, not words.

He had a job and a deadline to fulfill. He is an honest working man.

agree with that part

already have,,,teacher 2000 zloty
asked a woman in Pub last night ,,,6 zloty an hour,

this basically confirms all I know about it too. I have many friends in Poland and only a couple of them make a good living (about 10k), the rest struggles.

waving a knife around when a police officer approached his window. This probably made things worse for him.

I overlooked that part. Well, the cops could have done much more than they really did Plastic, don't you think?

He was using it to peel potatoes, Vincent. It was hardly a dangerous weapon.

knife is a knife and besides, how would they know what he wanted to do with it? I'm actually surprised they haven't stunned him.

Why is this guy thinking the side of the road is the only place?

add all of it together Plastic:
parking on the shoulder - clearly illegal
waving with the knife - indicating aggression and danger
irrational behavior - since they didn't understand him, according to his actions, it certainly was
What else do you need to understand that what they did was absolutely correct?

think the language barrier complicated the matter some. The cops will
always play it safe, especially in the UK;where they don't carry guns like the U.S. police..

exactly, my friend

Why not address the real issue?

Agree 100%. The real issue is his very inappropriate, irrational behavior. There are many language schools in Poland, why not offer truck drivers to learn English before sending them abroad? A half of it wouldn't happen if he spoke English but then again, his behavior wasn't helping him either. To be honest, this guy shouldn't be on the road to begin with.

It would just depend on the situation. Cops observe what is going on and they deal with pissed off people a lot. Thousands a day do not end up getting shot.

Plastic, we both know that our cops wouldn't be so "nice" with that guy.

To be fair there are many UK lorry drivers crossing the channel every day, and they don't speak any foreign languages

true but English is widely spoken, while Polish is not (sorry guys, don't mean to sound arrogant). It's just the way it is.

No, they act a hundred times worse with no regard for the other driver whatsoever.

you're talking about driving itself while I'm talking about his totally, irrational behavior.

over 1300 offers for Gdynia.

is that what you mean? damn, so you guys need to speak several languages just to clean and cook (OK, forgot few other things too, sorry). I wonder how much they pay for it?

Life / Are Polish natives intolerant of foreigners who do not properly speak the language? [30]

Someone told me that Polish natives are intolerant of foreigners who do not properly speak the language.

that might have actually happened (same experience), however it's not something that happens often in Poland.

Natives are known to throw beer cans, cellphones and cigarette packages at individuals who do not properly speak Polish.

this however, sounds like a bad joke.

go back to the United States

I was told that too (once)

Poles are cruel people.

bad joke

That anything can be a weapon - yes! The law related to knifes is silly.

not when the guy is behaving like that. C'mon Ironside, admit finally that the guy is an idiot. You don't have to defend him just because he's a Pole. We all have our morons including Poland.

Life / Individualism in Polish culture...Is it almost Nonexistant? [170]

and 11 years ago we had planes fly into very important buildings....so yes, at times airport security here is going to be extra cautious and because it's America, everybody is going to stomp their feet about it and blow it out of proportion.

yep, but funny wise, none of them who are criticizing us right now is mentioning anything about what it used to be here to be before 9/11.

Life / What's wrong with Poland? I don't see anything. [121]

I feel as though I'm more "free" where I live now, but it's entirely subjective. Conversely, when I went to Poland and saw naked women on magazine covers at Empik,

naked women on magazine covers - that's freedom !!! ;-)
