Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

No, because we have such a thing as union representation, minimum wage and a fair recruitment process. :)

Subject to language competency and skill competency, you can go for ANY job here you like.

We have a very tolerant and multi-racial society... so much so, people continue to want to be a part of it.

The case with many immigrants in many countries is that their language skills are lacking, this can affect their ability to gain employment in their preferred sector, which then causes them to lose confidence/ motivation and results in they're doing a job they are over qualified for.

In other cases they are from "less developed" countries (or fleeing political persecution), and so quite possibly are not equipped with the professional skill set required in the workforce of a developed economy like ours.... Though i'm sure they would rather continue their work here in the knowledge that they are safe from said persecution with the chance to build a new life for themselves and their children... :)

In all cases, immigrants seeking refuge in Australia are entitled to free language assimilation classes - in fact i'm a volunteer tutor. This is to aid them in feeling more comfortable with their new surroundings, and to help them gain access to the numerous other services available in a country that has been housing immigrants since it's inception as a colony.

However if you would like to provide evidence for the slanderous and ignorant comment you felt entitled to post, then I am all ears.... You seem very worldy. ;)

Yes, love can make you do strange things... And believe it or not, Muslims, like any creed, can be subject to genuine love...

I guess it's either convert to Islam or remain a part-time Catholic...;)

The second party...;) but you knew that.

Actually, one look at Wiki will tell you that Poles have been coming in dribs and drabs to the UK for centuries. However the previous post war relocation consisted of roughly 120 odd thousand Poles. Those who shunned their government due to communist behaviour back home...

The most recent wave consisted of 10 x this number! And was because of capitalist activity back home... ;)

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

...And cigarettes don't CAUSE death, but they give you a much better chance of arriving there sooner than you would naturally conclude.

Sorry bout your niece. What's the air quality like where she was born?

You had the right to smoke... now that right has been taken away. You may feel like you are being punished, but it is in your best interest, just like taxes and traffic lights.

**** happens. Stop wheezing, I mean whining. ;)

Society permitting...? Hindsight is a wonderful thing... foresight is as rare as a palm tree in Siberia!

I think a lot of that power you talk about has now been shifted away from the Marketers and Advertisers back into the hands of the discerning public, through pressure groups and independent watchdogs.

And although advertisers still use ever more sophisticated methods to cajoule us into falling for or supporting certain trends, there is ever more evidence now that individual's decisions are based on stark fact and a scientific appropriation of the truth, and not on lies and deceit created by spin, endorsed by government (who said you could trust government anyway...?;)) and unleashed by media who is at once friend and then foe (...like the slut that is in bed with everyone).

We are only now starting to understand the psychological effects that the opiate of mass media has on mass consumption. And only through continually cquestioning the many aspects of propaganda that are readily detected it in all realms of public life, can we observe its effect on our own sub conscience.

I quit smoking on the rationale that anything I decided was a good idea when I was 14, should probably be re-evaluated when I became an adult (I decided this was 20yrs old :P). When I looked at the evidence, It just seemed silly to continue...

So while I had been a consumer of cigarettes for many years, I decided that in fact I was being consumed. I wanted my mind back and I wanted to be free of exaggerated attachment.... so I kicked the HABIT.

..."How absurd men are! They never use the liberties they have, they demand those they do not have. They have freedom of thought, they demand freedom of speech."

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

=D ... you can go anywhere your heart takes you.

You're not by any chance related to John Lennon... ;)

I like to think I have a free mind, a free heart is one that i'm struggling with... despite what En Vogue said. ;p

Travel / Vegetarian places to eat in Krakow [30]

I struggled with this. Krakow was the very city in which I returned to carnivorousness. I had been a veg-head before this. I think it was the ox-tongue!

But really, I think you'll have more trouble if you're a wine drinker.

Love / Polish relationships (race and religion) [140]

Lennon by the way, although very talented musically, was quite hyprocrital in terms of all his imagine/hippy stuff.

But, he was trying to transform - himself. through. love. You must remember, he lost his mother at a very young age - she died right in front of him. And his father left home and never returned until he needed money from John.

JL was not perfect but he understood compassion and was on the compassionate road. Seeing that, for me, and many others, was enough to command respect and admiration. He wanted to give but had been through a tough journey spiritually. Ironically, he was bitter about hypocrisy but was brave enough to challenge it head on through peaceful means, helping to expand the concept of peaceful resistence.

You can hear in his words that he was trying to find peace... he carried the message of love and was honest about his foibles. He was perhaps a little too intellectual for everyone's taste.

Whatever he was as a man can not be taken away from what he symbolised to the people. And whatever imperfections you see in him as a man can not be taken away from the fact that his legacy of peace still remains today, and his actions contributed something significant to the idealogy of freedom of speech that is still just as relevant today.

it would strike me how MUCH potential this land have ... and how much love it contains on its every inch.

Funny, I think the same about Australia. ;)

I guess it's coming from within you brother.

I know John Lennon the musician ... not much about the person. Did he ever visit Poland?

You had John Paul, isn't that enough...;)

I guess he visited on TV screens and through your speakers? But they (The Beatles) stopped touring in 1970.

Soon after, he married a Japanese woman. Possibly the first high profile union between a westerner and an oriental. And just for your information, it stymied a lot of people.

But it broke with taboo and that was John lennon. The racism and misunderstanding was challenged at every corner.

News / Will many Poles migrate to Germany in May 2011 (after opening labor market)? [157]

The whole thing is an example of rapid development. Does the union have the wealth to spread to all its member nations? we'll see I guess. But it looks as though rather than the expansion benefitting the countries concerned, it is benefitting the individuals who make good in their new country, but leaves social repercussions back home and in their chosen countries. What does it say when everyone wants to shift and leave their country...?

How fickle nationality is.

Doesn't it say something, for instance, about the UK "human rights" organizations?

Because they're too busy concerning themselves with Africa. They're obsessed with Africa - I think it's a colonial thing...

I think also that the UK has a different mentality to that found on the continent. This is obvious to some. Perhaps Brits feel more estranged from the Poles. Hell, they are estranged from each other some of them.

I do think that Brits have been pretty tolerant on the whole. How would Poland cope if 1.2 million foreigners turned up overnight, spreading an unfamiliar language and transforming the native culture for better or worse?

It doesn't help that there is already an entrenched class system in Britain, and a large working class establishment which always feels most threatened by immigration and economic crises such as the one at the moment.

Love / Such a Very Sad Loss.. fighting the battle with a Polish lady to see my daugher. [56]

On a Lighter note,I'm fine although still obviously sad re:my Mother & dissapointed concerning what happened for me Initially to place my post however your reply's have been very nice to read and Once again I thank you all. I would like to give a special Thank you too patrycja19 as your post made alot of sense to me and I felt it.

All endings have new beginnings.

I recently changed everything in my life, and I used a separation to do this. It always helps returning to familiar surroundings, and there is no better company than a dog...;)

People can be harsh and cruel but we really don't understand their intentions. Being alone is sometimes a better comfort and you will find creative ways to heal. Pain helps you find god, I really believe this. We are better off having experienced loss, better at understanding it and better at finding ways to cope, cause eventually we can at any time lose those external things...

Try to laugh. It really is the best way of coming through to the other side. You are part of a community of human beings just trying to make it through each day. You are blessed to be alive, there is no shame in your pain.

Take care.

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [148]

I can see your point, but there are gifts which are gestures of thanks, and gifts which may be misconstrued in some way...

Either way, the doubts you raise say more about the possible level of corruption in state institutions than anything else...

A gift is after all just a gift.

Life / Any there treatment centers for unmarried in Poland? [36]

Non-reproducing people also promote isolationism, increase in cats population and xenophobia. Something has to be done.

Are you aware how hilarious you are...?

Have you looked at the population rates lately? Not much to worry about on that score.

And most relationships end up in homicide anyway. ;)

there's always been mixing people... you are talking about people with different genetic adaptions THAT IS ALL!

Accept that what you're talking about refers to economics and your threatened manhood and is based on fear and nothing more. Your "fellow" white brothers are just as much a threat if not more - but you'd rather chastise a group on the basis of their appearance.

Just because he speakes a different language to you does not mean he should not be accepted a citizen with rights and respect - it is your government who has permitted immigration - by fair and democratic means.

Why don't you find new methods of attracting women - or just change your attitude which is probably ugly to women anyway. You feel threatened... you should look at why.

And remember, these are people from countries your ancestors felt free to colonise and exploit by unfair and undemocratic means when your nations were building their immense European wealth. Way to let bygones be bygones...

UK, Ireland / Any Polish looking for work in Birmingham UK? [17]

yeah it is... if there's a job available - the best person should be given it on the basis of their skills, not their nationality. I'm so glad i'm not in Europe anymore - and you guys call us racist. sheesh!
