Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

No, because we have such a thing as union representation, minimum wage and a fair recruitment process. :)

Subject to language competency and skill competency, you can go for ANY job here you like.

We have a very tolerant and multi-racial society... so much so, people continue to want to be a part of it.

The case with many immigrants in many countries is that their language skills are lacking, this can affect their ability to gain employment in their preferred sector, which then causes them to lose confidence/ motivation and results in they're doing a job they are over qualified for.

In other cases they are from "less developed" countries (or fleeing political persecution), and so quite possibly are not equipped with the professional skill set required in the workforce of a developed economy like ours.... Though i'm sure they would rather continue their work here in the knowledge that they are safe from said persecution with the chance to build a new life for themselves and their children... :)

In all cases, immigrants seeking refuge in Australia are entitled to free language assimilation classes - in fact i'm a volunteer tutor. This is to aid them in feeling more comfortable with their new surroundings, and to help them gain access to the numerous other services available in a country that has been housing immigrants since it's inception as a colony.

However if you would like to provide evidence for the slanderous and ignorant comment you felt entitled to post, then I am all ears.... You seem very worldy. ;)

Love / IMPORTANT NOTE FOR POLISH GIRLS (watch out for hypocrites) [52]

Can anyone marry for love when they are stricken with poverty?

Also, have you considered that in many cases the Polish girl might come from a Polish family that is less well off or financially secure than a first or second generation, outwardly looking "paki"? ...Whose family has long resided in the UK and has built up these things that you refer to as being only available to them by marrying a young Polish lady?

There are "pakis" with British passports you know. And I would assume that most "pakis" and other such individuals from the subcontinent could gain access to the "EU" by some other means, such as family or education (yes, some of them are educated!).

Sheesh, look around you, there have been Asians here looong before anyone invited Poland to the party...

But you'd prefer to spit your racist/ sexist rhetoric about stupid desperate bimbos and disgusting and desperate black c*nts.... WHAT NONSENSE!

Love / IMPORTANT NOTE FOR POLISH GIRLS (watch out for hypocrites) [52]

Have you been recently to Pakistan or India Ashley? I wish someone would just drop you there for a few months.

What's that got to do with anything...? Are you saying I should go there to be proven that they are swine? Or that by seeing why they might be desparate to leave their countries gives proof that they have no other agenda for marriage other than to stay in the EU?

You only need to go to Albania if that's the case...

Love / IMPORTANT NOTE FOR POLISH GIRLS (watch out for hypocrites) [52]

[quote=JustysiaS]everybody knows that Pakistanis want to marry just about any EU national to get their passport/visa. its not about Polish women being racist, its justabout being careful. thats why they're so slimey and over-the-top with compliments, because they think if they are nice to a woman she will immediately fall in lovewith them, and if they ask her to marry them she will say yes straight away./quote]

This pi%ses me off and is inherently racist. I think the concept of marriage to secure status is one the Europeans subscribed to long ago... considering for centuries Polish Princes and Princesses were married off to secure peace or national sovereignty. The whole instituion of marriage is founded on these beliefs... to secure wealth/ prosperity. Do you not like it when dark skinned people invade these traditions? Honestly?

We as women are also guilty of looking for men that can offer us security, money, a good time, or anything else we happen to want or need in our emancipation. We use sex appeal or just sex to great advantage where this is concerned - hard not to! but just cause you are white does not mean you are more entitled than "Pakis" of getting in on the game. Your attitude is sickening (and unfortunately emblematic of a country full of white supremists).

You see, you can't consider yourself an educated liberal and then not accept the demographic changes that take place when a country opens up. As I make out, this issue of supremacy used only concern you and your nearest neighbours - "dirty" Russians or "filthy" Poles, "arrogant" Germans. Lucky you can project your bigotry at some "lesser" class of people, which makes you all feel that much more superior. It's symptomatic of a feeling of being threatened, which is fear and fear can lead to hatred. The EU has served you well...

Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

Quote zetigrek: Everyone is an individual case. I can revise the question and ask you what drives on your fellowcountry men. It's not easy question...

Aussies... we like our booze, free time, travel and adventures. Devout but not conservative. We like to have adventures in other countries and like to meet EVERYONE.

We like to celebrate our aussieness (economic, social and political freedom) and have worked hard to make the nation what it is - a welcoming environmental and political sanctuary - but have no perceived political supremacy (and within Aus this is improving too).

We are driven by a desire to have a fair go, to honour our courageous and to have a good time.

Keep it coming, I think we're getting somewhere...

Life / The Poles - do they "bumble" through life? [29]

They know how to imitate success, but there is something within that just wants to sit around, drink vodka, smoke cigarettes, and hide from the world...

Love / What do Polish guys think of Irish girls? [187]

Beauty really depends on health and happiness... it's like an instant makeover...
And i'd even go as far as to say that the Polish lasses may be healthier but the Irish lasses are happier. Each H has its own appeal, but together they can be stunning. :)

I still believe there are trends, as with everything. Or at least trends which you can break down in importance for the people who consider themselves Polish.

We'll see.

Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

Who said you were alien beings?

I know I could have asked this question in 1989 and again in 2004 and there would have been a trend there.

...You don't think Poles are driven by goals unique to them? Politically or in their private lives?

One minute you guys seem to want to be recognised as being emphatically unique, and the next you're mocking of the assumption that you're different from any other nationality.

If that was the case, I wouldn't be here innit?

Perhaps you're just lost and that's the problem...

What drives Poles? Is it their peity, is it expectation of family regarding family, is it love, money, power... what is it?

UK, Ireland / Homeless Poles living on barbecued rats and alcoholic handwash? [62]

It tells me that they need to rethink job creation and explore the different ways of carving out a living. Firing off the CV into the void makes no sense. Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always got. Simple!

You ever been unemployed Seanus, or wanted to better yourself in any way?

Love / Polish women world's second most flirtatious [75]

I swear to god, I think I'm starting to hate this forum. Stop it with these generalizations, seriously.

Generalizations weren't created here. They were brought here from "out there". At least here they can be hashed out.

Life / What do you like about Poland? [100]

The fact that i don't really understand it. But i get a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling when i'm there (that may be the wodka).

Poland is just so... so very Polish. In the south anyway, it's 50% highland hunter, 50% decadence. It is a beautiful part of the world, and the people have an inimitable elegance.

I wish I could return. :(

Life / What makes a "real" Pole? [33]

What if a Pole has spent a considerable time living in another country... when do they start not qualifying as being Poles...?

Or more importantly, how many significant events that shape Poland is one allowed to miss before he/she fails to be Polish enough?

I think if you feel an affinity for a country, it means you belong there... whether you can live there is another matter... that may be due to practicalities.

I think if anyone who has a love for the country and a notion (however disconnected) about how the country operates... then they are entitled to consider themselves as members of the polish community, but their notions about the country may be a little misjudged...

News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

yes, definitely an EX. But the thing is.. the stupid questions really came from a complete lack of curiosity, considering how many Poles live in England, your average English person has zero curiosity and lazily cling to 25 years out of date stereotypes

This happens a lot unfortunately. people looove stereotypes. I blame the media.

I overheard a curious question tonight asked in a Polish restaurant.... The patron asked "does the red cabbage go well with the pork..." ;)

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

1.I'm sorry, are you tying together the the issue of smoking with the national CONSTITUTION...? oh dear, you are grappling at straws...

2.there is no "someone else". They are your clients as well... do you not care for their rights...?

3.Surely the idea is to reduce risk... that is progress honey.

4.It's not what someone doesn't like... sheesh. It's what causes them potential harm. And it is easier to avoid others' agressive behaviour and violence than it is to avoid breathing in air. And i think you're missing the point that whether your excess drinking effects YOUR health or not, does not effect ME. Also, cars cause car accidents, not alcohol. ;)

5.So campaign against alcohol. No-one's saying it ain't bad (i know plenty of alcoholics who would disagree). we are arguing about cigarette smoke and that only. Apples and pears my friend.

Australia / New start in Australia (technical electronic study) [7]

Hi there.

Don't have much advice for you as i've only just returned myself. But i'm sure in two years you will have it all sorted. Try and improve your English if you can as that will help immensely.

I gather you want to leave Poland for good and settle here... that's great. Where in particular? What do you know of the place (apart from kosciusko?) ;) and do you have family "downunder"?

You do know there are snakes here... ;)

Cheers

No doubt, it's win-win for you. It bans something that annoys you (not something which is forced upon you), and you don't have a connection to the fiscal downsides. Why wouldn't you support it?

Yes, this IS the nature of subjective opinion. But I can see the positives from where i'm standing.

It's a matter of weighing up health/ the environnment against other national priorities.

It's one of those "common good" approaches that ironically no-one individually supports.

Nonsmokers need smokers more than smokers need nonsmokers.

Not really mate... you make out as if cigarette revenue is holding up the public purse!

There are other things to tax, like the rich, use of water, carbon tax, transport etc etc.

You could ban smoking - it wouldn't mean that people still wouldn't smoke... there'd always be the hardcore.

Besides, then they could just legalise and tax other drugs... like marijuana.

You make out as if a healthy population somehow costs the public money. What about fit healthy people with active minds breeding healthy babies... surely this is good for any economy. Besides the money spent on cigarettes could always be spent on other goods, thereby contributing to public revenue.
