Pirate, I think your experience with Polish people is an exception to the rule. However, not just with Polish people... I've always heard Thank You after a meal in the US, or a Merci in France and Quebec, Gracias in Mexico and Costa Rica, Xie Xie in China and Spaciba in Russia. Most people are polite by nature but every now and then you run into the brutes of the world. Sounds like you drew the short stick there, sorry about that.

Don't worry about it. The bank made the mistake and now they must eat the loss.

Not sure about that. A friend exchanged some of the old Zimbabwe dollars and the bank made an error - instead of getting back US $50 dollars he got US $5,000. When they realized their error they have him 30 days to repay it then they started charging him an interest on the money, as if he'd taken a loan from them. He contacted an attorney who said he had no case. He repaid it a few weeks later. By at Bank of America.

Those of you who have "old" (pre-1995 but post-1945) Polish banknotes and want to know how much they're worth - remember, the largest note today is 200 Złoty.

It's really simple - if you have a 10,000 Złoty bill obviously it must be an old bill, there are no new bills over 200 Złoty remember?

Simply divide it by 10,000 (1 new Złoty = 10,000 old Złoty - or Złotych) and you have the value of the new Złoty.

In other words:

10,000 old Złoty equals 1 new Złoty or 35 US cents.
100,000 old Złoty = 10 new Złoty or US $3.5, etc.

I see where you're coming from, I really do.

Having said that I'd like to marry someone who views me as her lover, her friend and her true soulmate and I'd want to view her in the same light.

If she happens to be Polish (or Swedish, or American, or Brasilian, or...) that'll be the extra bonus. If you truly love someone and she loves you, you will be able to maintain your heritage because she'll want to learn everything about you and your culture, and vice versa. So I'll let my heart guide me rather than use passports for orientation.

Again, I do see your point but I've seen some 'unexpected' couples and the happines that followed and I became inspired... Maybe it'll happen and maybe it won't but it never hurts to aim high and hope for the best...

I agree with you but at the same token I don't like when women or men who'd just broken up with their latest flame immediately start dating a new person and "rub it in" without any consideration whatsoever for their old love. I think that's rude - no reason to be hurting the ex just to be a jerk. Let the ex heal first or at least keep your new relationship as private as possible for a while.

I have to admit I did something like that in the past and it wasn't until several years later that I was told how "ruthless" she thought I was after the break up. I honestly had no idea, didn't even know she cared but I guess she did. The thing is she was really nice and kind to me so I don't know why I was such a jerk. Anyways, my point is when love ends there's no reason to be ruthless - the 'dumped' person is hurting bad enough.

Joland - I agree with you, I think it all depends on a person's background. For a Slovak Polish isn't that hard, for a German and an American it's pretty darn hard and for a Chinese and Korean it's almost impossible. Of course the reverse applies too.

So it's all very relative.

As far as Finnish - Long time ago when I lived in Sweden I lived with a Finnish girlfriend so I took Finnish classes; wanted to be able to talk to her folks in Finland (Suomi). The hardest things for me were all the double a's, etc and the fact the prepositions were "backward" - you wouldn't say something is "on the table" - instead the translation would be something like "tableon" - makes for loong words... lol. Makes for pretty sound though (and women ;)

when an electrical engineer (bachelor, msc, phd, whatever degree) works as a free lance or owns his own small business or selling circuit drawings or electrical items do you call him/her electrician or electrical engineer over there in usa?

All depends on what you do, not your education. I have "high current" (there's "low" current version too) electrical engineering degree from Sweden (from a university connected to ABB), but I worked as an electrician not electrical engineer in a Zink mine in Sweden (before I changed professions).

Electricians in the States make good money, especially when lots of costruction is going on. When I converted my licences from Swedish to US and got to work at a small construction company , senior electricians there (after 8-12 years) were making $90k to $160k a year (they always quote "yearly" salaries here) and that was in Southeast where the living costs were relatively low. This was a succesful firm and we were making bonuses on profits the company was making. Here in Hawai'i they make even more (but it's more expensive to live here too). I don't know exactly what they all make now as I've switched professions long time ago...

Regarding a statement someone made "no airline will let a 5 months pregnant woman fly" - it does depend on the airline, I used to fly for Delta and am pretty sure if the lady had a letter from her doctor stating she was healthy, the pregnancy was moving along ad planned, etc., she'd be allowed to fly but I do not know what the "real" cut off pregnancy time was.

I know Poles and other nationalities like to be respected by others no matter if they're rich or poor. Why don't we do the same for the illegal Mexican aliens? They abuse our system for sure, many bring in drugs, some get involved on gangs, etc. but those people are not "rats"! as done people have called them. Easy to do in the heat if the battle (argument) but I think we shouldn't be doing that. It's a tough situation for sure, many are actually indiginious "Mexican Indians" and barely speak any Spanish, much less English. They're abusing a loophole in our system, so let's blame the system and not them.

The advantage of doing that - the kids become US citizens automatically.

The disadvantage - the green card process for the kid's mom will be more complicated.

I don't think it is enough that you and your partner are having children to get her an American green card.

IF her kids are born in the US the kids (not the mom) will automatically become US citizens - they won't need a green card. That's the law.

However the mom will need to apply for a green card. Unless she marries the father and then she'll get a work permit 12-18 months later and a temporary green card a year thereafter. After 5 years as a green card holder (sometimes 3) she can become a citizen if she wants.

Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution - July 9, 1868, -

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.[2

Birthright citizenship in the United States of America refers a person's acquisition of United States citizenship by virtue of the circumstances of his or her birth. It contrasts with citizenship acquired in other ways, for example by naturalization later in life. Birthright citizenship may be conferred either by jus soli and jus sanguinis.

However, you know, I too am a Wrocław Boy, or used to be as a kid but I don't see why I should be demeaning toward your current country, whatever it happens to be? If you don't like those "idiot yanks" fine, just stay away.

This thread was about a guy who came here for advice, not to be lectured about not using condoms or whether one country sucks more than the other.

I hope things work out for them both, lots of families out there who'd absolutely love to have a child, not to mention twins!

...and Jason - do some research and I'm sure things will work out for you. Let me know what state you live in and I might be able to find an immigration attorney you can talk to. Usually an hour or so is enough to learn your options. You both will be fine, this is good news despite some of the doom & gloom here...

Jason - if the babies are born in the US (congrats btw and I mean it!) they'll automatically get the US citizenship. US is the only country I'm aware of that gives citizenship to kids who're born in the US even if the parents aren't US citizens; in most countries citizenship is related to parents' citizenship. That's why when Hong Kong was about to be handed over to China thousands of pregnant Chinese women would come to the US to give birth - they wanted a back up plan and now there are thousands of kids in Hong Kong with a US passport.

Without sounding racist - this has been practiced by Mexican mothers for generations and that's how the term "anchor babies" came about - the US authorities seldom attempt to expel mothers to US citizens as they know someone has to take care of those children. Kids -since they are American citizens - cannot be expelled (there are exceptions, usually when the mother commits a crime).

So basically if your girlfriend's (and yours of course) babies are born in the US the chances of her being expelled are very remote. However, it'll be a real pain to deal with it because as an illegal alien she won't technically have a job permit.

My suggestion - you move to Poland and marry her there - apply for a spouse visa permit for her from Poland (might take 6-12 months) - a pain in the butt but once she has her paper work y'alls life will be so much better. Friend of mine went through this with his wife a year or so ago (she is Japanese who used to have a Brasilian passport :)

If she decides later to return back to Poland when the kids turn 18 they'll have to choose what citizenship they want to maintain (unless Poland allows dual citizenship).

Actually women too can be transvestites it's just that you'd never know it and it's sort of pointless.

Many (but not all) transvestites get turned on by the taboo subject of wearing the other gender's cloths. For women however there's no taboo in wearing male cloths, happens every day and no one even notices. That's why today the term transvestite is pretty much reserved for men. I bet I'd look good in a skirt... Especially a kilt! ;)

I understand, last time I was in Poland was some 30 years ago (I was a kid then)... Pretty sad actually as I've visited half the world by now (literally) but haven't had time to visit Poland... I'll have to do it sooner rather than later...

If you decide to go, the best thing is to have someone who can show you around. I always get a "guide" whenever I visit a place. Sometimes I pay him/her/them a fee, buy them dinner, coffee, whatever we agree on. It'll quadruple your experiences...

Could you please tell me where else you've heard that besides Canada? or was it Canada only? I have lived in Sweden, Norway, US, and a brief period in Australia, I have never heard that Polish women are promiscuous. I have heard many times, and sometimes it's true, that Polish and other east (central) European women only want a green-card and possible half of the man's savings when they divorce him but I think it shows a person's character more than anything. Some women are like that, I doubt the majority of them are.

Should you be offended? Damn right you should. You have a sister and I have a sister. I can tell you that would I ever hear anything like that from someone in my presence I'd get really mad. I'm not a violent person and there wouldn't be any physical violence of course but I'd definitely want to get the person to explain himself/herself. By the way, I'd act the same way if it was about an American or a Chinese woman.

Isn't it amazing that when a woman (I'm a guy) dates a bunch of guys she becomes a slut, w-h-o-re, loose, you name it. When I or any of my friends do the same we becomes studs, ladies-men, etc. Unfortunately there's a double standard and it's too bad.

Not sure if it'll ever be totally equal between the sexes but from what I've noticed women are tough on other women, guys seldom care. I do think change starts from the bottom up so it is up to us, usually guys to defend the ladies when stupid BS is being said about them.

If she "sleeps around" - well, it's her business and eventually she'll learn that it won't make her a happier person, in fact usually it's the other way around but it's up to her to figure that out.

I am wondering if Polish AF pilots receive additional pay for flying duties like USAF pilots do? If so, how long have they received this pay and approximately what is the amount?

I have also been trying to find out what the scale of pay is for officers as well.

I am writing a fictional story and the character is a Polish AF officer. I am very interested in knowing how the military pay/economic lifestyle was for officers before 1989, and also how it is in the present day. I appreciate all of your assistance.

Sue, once someone translates it just copy & paste it to the other forum under your screen name. Include the English version in case there are lurkers like me.
