Travel / Is it safe to travel to Poland? [194]

In every country there are impoverished, 'unsafe' areas. For the tourist it's important that there are places he/she knows about that are safe to walk around, even in the evenings. I don't know where they are any more, but pointing them out would be much more useful HERE than arguing about statistics.

Food / What's on YOUR Wigilia table? [20]

śledzie, sałatka, ryba w galarecie, ryba po grecku, barszcz z uszkami, pierogi.
No desert yet. Szarlotka, probably.
Oh, no carp though. Flounder and snook.

So, are there parts of Warsaw/Krakow you would not stroll around in the evening? If so, where and why?

Love / Polish boyfriend coming to visit [52]

I gather it's been an internet/phone relationship up to now.
Do what you are comfortable doing.
And remember, you might be convinced that you are in love, but the
final test is the physical attraction when you meet in person - it's important to be yourself.

Language / It is not possible to translate names into English or Polish! [52]

Jaszczak sounds bad. I hope I'm wrong, but it might have something to do with pi$$ing.
I also think that just about every Polish last name has originated from some recognizable word.
Go ahead, hit me up. Give me a POLISH last name and I will translate it for you!

Language / It is not possible to translate names into English or Polish! [52]

one more thing about Jaszczak, the "szcz" is the polish letter "Ш" or "Щ". just in case that changes anything. I hope my name doesnt involve pi$$ing

I was joking... sorry.
Jaszcz might have been some kind of waggon.
Or the beginning of lizard - jaszczurka

Work / Salary for Teaching EFL in Krakow [120]

ok, help me with the rest. So 3K/mo salary... what is the rent, from small apartment for one to renting just a room? What is an average electric, water, gas monthly bill? How much for internet access, cell phone, cable? How much can one person get away with for food - no thrills polish style? Is public transportation still dirt cheap?

History / Polish-German alliance. [489]

hitler took the same vermanistic view of hungary, romania. they were to him just vermin, and his idiolgy focused on that

What's with the 'vermin' dude, you really like repeating that word? How about this quote from Hitler: “How fortunate for leaders that men do not think.”

Life / WHY ARE POLISH CALENDARS SKEWED? [42]

I think only jewish people consider Saturday as the seventh day. For catholics, it's always been Sunday. The fact that american calendars start on Sunday, even tho everyone considers sunday the end of the week, is a little 'tell' of Jewish influence.

Law / Irish welcome on Polish building sites ? [47]

Some Polish people didn't like the way they were treated in Ireland (if I heard it then everybody else must have known already) and they want others to know. That's all.

Life / WHY ARE POLISH CALENDARS SKEWED? [42]

the discrepancy is, again, which day is the seventh, day of prayer. Some religions believe it's saturday, some sunday.

Religion aside, in my opinion Monday should be the first day, since it's the first day of work-week, and saturday and sunday should be at the week-end.

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

At the risk of sounding stupid: everyone wants to fall in love with someone that will love them back. For women, that sometimes involves figuring out if the guy wants anything more than a steady sex partner. Guys worry if she's just after the money. Language barrier makes that part more difficult and long lasting.

As for the original question? Yes, all polish women are nutters. They simply cannot have any respect for guys that put up with all their sh!t.

News / Czech drug legalisation threatens Poland [111]

Wooohooo Chechs! Good for you! About time some common sense prevailed!

It's time to separate the people with mental problems that abuse anything they can get their hands on, from criminal elements making money off them.

And it's time to admit that there are recreational drug users, same way there are occasional drinkers. Making drugs (or alcohol) illegal does not work.

nomaderol, seriously, the only one you make sense to is yourself. I try not to read your posts after I made a mistake of getting involved in a conversation with you about the etiquette of gift-giving. At least that's what I thought it was, until you turned it into some kind of socialist manifesto, or.. who the hell knows what it was. I suspect most of us here, after falling into the same trap once, quickly realize what's going on and treat you like a harmless lunatic. I seriously hope you are young.

Few rules to help you out: don't lie, don't pretend to be somebody you're not, don't assume that anyone believes what you write and most of all, read your posts couple of times before you send them.

USA, Canada / Differences in How Polish People Raise a Child and How Americans Raise a Child [149]

Polish mothers are bonkers about drafts. I live in Florida and they would rather sweat than have fan blow cool air on them. Especially at night - they think they'll catch pneumonia. Same thing about sitting on stone, or something cold. Or drinking something cold!

I won't even get into ice cubes...
BTW, bottles and pacifiers till 4-5yo are bad for the teeth.

I noticed a lot of latin mothers will carry their kid around until the kid himself gets tired of it. I think many mothers separate themselves from their kids mostly because of going back to work or other personal or social obligations.

News / German legal discrimination against Polish speakers [209]

the article is about supervised visits between parent and child, in Germany. Obviously, if court granted him supervised visits only, it means they need to monitor what's going on, i.e. what is he telling them as well. Makes sense they want him to speak the language the supervisor can understand. Don't make more out of it than it is.

and instead of fighting in the media about what language to speak and traumatizing his children, he should be proving to courts that he is not a low life, high risk a$$hole and that he should be granted UNsupervised visits.

What I suggested is that there usually is a reason for visits being supervised, and although that might not include listening to every word, it may very well be in children's best interest to monitor the gist of the crap the parent needing supervision might be feeding them. It's best to take it on case by case bases, and err on the side of caution.

So maybe, just maybe, this guy might not be a best choice for poster boy for discrimination against foreigners.
As for the caliber of people working in social services, I have not had the pleasure, so I'll defer that wisdom to you.

I happened to be very familiar with the county you live in .... see you chose a real education ....

Sorry you have not had much of a good time here, that's for you to analyze. I have not found a better place to live and work yet, and I have been looking very hard. But, enough of that, your interest in my personal life is a bit creepy. Stalk much?

1jola:
One thing's for sure, once you start with personal attacks, it's clear that you realize your argument, on it's own merits, is week. So there are two reasons why I don't need to parse your replies sentence for sentence, like you're enjoy doing.

It's a shame that you lived among the rednecks here and considered Walmart a cultural event. I'm surrounded by some of the best educated and smartest people in the world.

I freaked out about the Brevard 'cause I forgot that I put where I live in my profile and thought you were a hacker. My bad. Still, attacking the place I live, or assuming knowledge of my experiences means that you don't want to or don't know how to debate on a subject.

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

I've done the taste test, and could not tell gut rot from expensive stuff.
But, I've been trying to conduct the relative hangover experiments, and although it's impossible to do scientifically, I'll still swear you get what you pay for. Belvedere is much kinder to me next day than, let's say, Skol.
