Food / Polish v Western farm produce? [14]

No difference here in Canada. We get fruits and vegetables from Florida ,California and South America cheaper than it is to buy it locally. We live in the fruit and vegetable belt of southern Ontario and it's way cheaper to buy from the States ,Chile and Peru. The only good part of having our own is if you want it fresh then you buy local and pay a premium for it.

Another Polish favourite is "Kapusniak z Kiszonej Kapusty "(Sauerkraut Soup).Great with smoked meat and mushrooms. Also fried bacon can be added for extra flavour.

Food / What exactly is Polish Bread? [67]

Polish bread is not a secret recepie but the way it's made.no artificial preservatives and no ingrediants that you can't pronounce. Also the ovens have a lot to do with the flavour. We have tried making it but it's much cheaper just to go to the Polish store-Staripolska-and pick up a couple of fresh loaves. While there we also get the Polish kielbasa--What a great combination to eat !!!!

Travel / Nice restaurants in Warsaw [30]

I'm not even going to get involved with this!!!! I have been to Poland six times so far and I've enjoyed myself everytime .As a tourist, I go to have a good time and "DON'T" nickel and dime the country.I take it for face value--No matter where you go----tourist are are going to get overcharged. If you think your way ,you might as well not go anywhere and become a hermit----.ME---I'M ON THIS EARTH ONLY ONCE and I intend to enjoy it to the fullest.!!!

I like "zupa grochowka" when it's made with a meaty ham bone. then my wife uses green and yellow split peas and adds potatoes, celery, and carrots and leaves it chunky. Tastes delicious.

Food / Do you call it kiszka or kaszanka? [55]

This is interesting---you can try " the Jewish version of kiszka which is made by stuffing a beef intestine with matzo meal and szmalec as well as spices (sounds yummy, can't wait to eat it! Not! Just kidding, it's really good in my opinion). Paprika is one of the spices used, and depending on the amount of paprika used, the color of kishka can range from grey-white to brownish-orange".

Food / Do you call it kiszka or kaszanka? [55]

hERE IS WHAT I FOUND OUT ON THIS SUBJECT-----
"Polish blood sausage is called kiszka. (More accurately, it's called kaszanka, which is a type of kiszka, or sausage. But in the US, kiszka seems to have become an accepted nickname for kaszanka.)

Food / Polish Milk Soup [72]

I guess we should respect the requests for recepies by the writers because no two people have the same likings for food, whether the recepies are good or bad.Living in different parts of the world is what gives us our tastes for the many varieties of foods.

You'll have to try the Belvedere on ul.Agrykoli 1-- I only found it by accident when I was walking around Lazienki park. I popped in for cake and coffee and was totally impressed.

The food was very good and reasonbly priced. What makes this the Belvedere stand out is the service and decor. It the most beatiful restaurant I have ever eaten in!

The elegant interiors reflect the spirit of our times and the display of lights with the great music only add to the experience.Worth a try !!!

Food / Stuffed cabbage - gołąbki - recipe [59]

Well---you know ----you gotta take a risk once in a while. When my wife first told me about using V8 istead of tomato sause,I was very skeptical. When we made a roastpan full cabbage rolls ,before we put them in the oven,we decided to try a small batch with the v8 sauce and it was well worth the try.

Food / A recipe for hootch? Bimber taste in Poland. [42]

If you blow up the picture on the right,it gives you the ingredients--the amounts and the still and how much it will make.I also said any fruit or vegetable can be used to ferment that's how you can get the variety of alcoholic drinks. The first item you will need is a still.Good luck-----Most people that make this, make their own "still".

I am not going into details. Here it is illegal to make the stuff and the recepies are usually made by word of mouth.Usually it's the europeans that make the stuff and have brought their recepies from their country of origin.

Travel / Indian or Mexican food in Warsaw. [60]

For Indian food, it's a must to visit the Buddha restaurant in warsaw, I was staying in Sheraton hotel during my holidays and was wondering where to have some good Indian food and was just walking along Nowyswiat street, and saw this restaurant "Buddha" I walked in and was surprised to see the beautiful decor. A beautiful black hair lady was there to greet me with a very warm welcome .I was asked my preference of seating with smoking options.I selected some veggie starters, and main course, all were fantastic, great taste and good value for the money.

Distillation is not that difficult. You can do it very safely using refrigeration, relying on the fact that alcohol freezes at a much lower temperature than water. Freeze distillation also retains much more of the fermentation characteristics of the original drink than fractional distillation. It's just illegal, so don't talk indiscriminately about it. It's difficult to produce anything stronger than 25 or 30% alcohol using freeze distillation, but it's a favorite method because it requires less aging and retains many of the flavor components that are lost in fractional distilling

Distillation can be done fairly easily with a pressure cooker and some copper tubing (running off the cooker and through an ice bath). the product that comes out is raw and needs to be aged a few months or a few years, to develop some complexity. Age it in good wood to add that complexity. You can buy seasoned casks from wineries and distilleries without too much problem.

I know that this restaurant was badly criticized by on of the posters but if you like Indian food the Tandoor Palace is a very popular Indian restaurant . A lot of food critics and locals claim it offers the finest Indian cuisine, we advise you to try and find out for yourselves and we doubt you’ll be disappointed!. It’s a very accommodating restaurant, but large all male groups should make suitable reservations. The restaurant is also known for its regular comedy evenings, stand ups and great entertainers, which will be a bonus to your Warsaw breaks.
