News / Crucifixes to stay in Polish schools [364]

This is acceptable as the cross may give harm to the patient accidentally while headscarf will prevent the hair to fall.

???? How has a cross ever hurt a patient ????
If you read the note, you will see that it was clearly for religious reasons. If a cross is not allowed, a headscarf or David's star or any other religious symbol shouldn't be allowed either - simple.

News / I suggest a new location on the map for Poland! [44]

Let's move it somewhere, where we would all say "heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats, so that I can hardly speak, and I seem to find the happiness I seek (...)" :)

No I don't.

Filios1: is now dating a paki that is missing half of his teeth?

And what is wrong with you? Must be something really bad, if she prefers a gap-toothed Paki.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

Royaltramp: I have some friends here that I've known for years, and soon I'll have a lot more, so we'll be talking on GG and by email in Polish when we need to.

There you will be practicing your writing, so no worries, I'm sure you'll pick it up quicly. Just make sure that you don't use spell check, or do copy / paste when writing your e-mails. If you are not sure of how to write a word, look it up in a dictionary and write it yourself.

Again reading is very helpful - pick a magazine about something you like, and read it regularly.
Also, there is a Polish language section on here, maybe try to ask for some more advices there?

Powodzenia nasze 17-letnie Słońce :)

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

Royaltramp: So an interesting question, those of you who moved to Poland a while ago and have a pretty good grasp of the language now, how long did it take you?

I wouldn't know that Słonko, I'm Polish :) I meant other language when I said that it helped me.

Royaltramp: I already know the language well enough for most every day conversations thanks to spending a lot of time in Poland when I was younger,

That's great, we're proud of you! Your parents did a good job :)

Royaltramp: but as for the written language, I'm starting from scratch :P

Do you have any friends, family you could write e-mails, or letters with? You can write poems as well.

Albo od czasu do czasu możesz pisać z nami, jak chcesz :)

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

Royaltramp: I'm only 17 and I've just moved to Poland a couple of weeks ago. I'm half Polish

Welcome in Poland!

Royaltramp: I quite like the Polish language, but I never learnt to read/write in Polish, so this is something I'm now trying to learn. Hopefully GaduGadu will help there :P

All the best with that. Hopefully GaduGadu will help, but don't forget to practice - try to speak as much as you can. And don't worry if you sometimes don't know how to say something - give it some time!

As for good ways to learn the written language, try reading - newspapers, magazines, books. It helped me!

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

I often see these "innocent questions" on the forums.

My question isn't "innocent", but innocent. I was wondering if foreigneirs living in PL speak Polish, and if yes, how they learn(ed) it - that's it. I asked the question out of curiosity, and had no intentions of judging anybody. If I mentioned my ability to speak French, and the 5 years spent in Belgium, it was just to introduce myself, and not to say "if I could learn French, then you can learn Polish".

French is also used within the structure of English, as are vocabulary elements of many other languages since it is the language of an Empire not merely a nation.

It's perfectly fine by me that ppl would rather learn French/English than Polish. I understand that some don't want/need to learn Polish while in Poland, or that they find it difficult to learn, so they don't. Therefore, I really do appreciate foreigners making an effort to learn Polish. But, I wouldn't appreciate someone telling me they don't care to speak Polish because it's the language of merely a nation, and theirs is the language of an Empire - it's disrespectful.

In my case, because I am foreign to the Polish language and its culture and have not studied it as a pass/fail requirement of my schooling.

In my case, I was foreign to the French language and its culture as well. It didn't stop me from learning it though. I wanted to be able to communicate with ppl, to get to know their culture, thinking, life style. I wanted to have a normal life: go to a bank, a shop, book a table in a restaurant, make an appointment with a hair-dresser. All that wouldn't have been possible, if I didn't speak the local language.

Love / How to seduce Polish girls: Tips and advice [118]

He is full of stories!

that's for sure. I try to ignore him most of the time, but sometimes I can't help myslelf :)

Nika, the best way to seduce a Polish girl is.....?

Charm, sense of humour and good manners are always se3y - prawda Torq ;)
What may be different about Polish women, is that we are more conservative than Western women. We expect a man to be the head of the family, and to take all the responsabilities that it respresents. Therefore, a man should be strong, protective, resourceful (I'm not sure if it's the correct word, I mean "zaradny"), a support for his woman. Of course that's just a general view.

Love / How to seduce Polish girls: Tips and advice [118]

Contrary to that I never saw any beautiful German girl with Turk in Germany although Germany is full of Turks.I mean Turks could not get German girls.

southern, I personally know a German girl, married to a Moroccan guy. They have a son, and she's pregnant again. Obviously, their child is muslim - the mother being German, she's got no religion whatsoever. Oh, and she actually finds Turks the most handsome men.

Also, I've been living again in PL for 6 months now, and so far I only saw 1 Polish/Arab couple. Would you explain to me, how is it possible, that you saw so many of them during your short stays in Poland??? I mean, other that you are making this all up!
