Genealogy / Americans of Polish descent. How many of us are on Polish forums? [216]

I was told same thing, now I have my family history up to 1759

Could you be more specific as to what records you are referring to and where they are located. I do realize there are records that exist well before 1800 depending where your family was. I was told by the professional that I used that the birth/death and church records for the area where my family was from do not exist . He also tried land records and tax records but no dice. If you know of any other records I would be very interested.

Unfortunately none of the surnames you listed. My grandfather came from Podbielko just northeast of Warsaw. His name was Andrzej Skibniewski. My Polish family grew up devout Catholic but that doesn't mean as much these days. My wife is Jewish and we are very happy together.

During day-time tv cannot show nudity unless in movies. After 10 pm they can show it. It's all because of kids.

Regular Tv is regulated the same way in the Usa as is is in Poland. It

Vermont has a population of only 626,431 people. It is much smaller than Poland in terms of size --yet Vermont has 9 public nude beaches.

I have to hand it to you Mike you finally found a state out of 50 that that can make a reasonable arguement. I knew you would eventually find it but you have still skewed the facts in your favor. Out of the 9 locations in Vermont there are only 2 beaches that are clothing optional. One of the 9 is even closed at the moment but we will not go there. The rest of the locations are actually Parks, private resorts, and campgrounds. I will give you this though....Vermont is the only state that I know of that public nudity is allowed. My cousin lived there and has never challenged this fact but it is true. If you feel like walking to your curb to pick up the paper in the buff your not breaking the law.

I have to hand it to you Mike you finally found a state out of 50 that that can make a reasonable arguement

Have to amend this statement apparently since 2000 it is also legal in the state of California to be nude in public.

Lets talk about Poland, shall we.

That was awesome. Been a while since I laughed that hard. I think OP finally wised up though. Or he is still furiously looking for more U tube video's to post.

will it make him being banned now?

Not every poster on this forum is a genious. If someone wishes to post nonsense than let them. There are enough intelligent posters that will reply and discredit any false statements made about Poland.

These are 100% public-accessible beaches ran by nudist organizations

Dude why do you even bother writing. Only 1 of the five listed has a "beach" if you can call it that on a privately owned land the others are campgrounds owned and operated by yes nudests. There is no free "public" access to these resorts. You either have to be a member or pay the room rate to use the facilites.

The "Naked Mile" takes place on public property through the city of Ann Arbor.

After a substantial effort conducted by the University and the Ann Arbor Police Department

The AAPD arrested a total of four people for indecent exposure and four others for disorderly conduct. DPS also made one arrest for indecent exposure, one for a minor in possession of alcohol, one for interfering with an arrest, and one for possession of marijuana. Though Brown said she was not aware of any incidents being reported, the Ann Arbor News reported a sexual assault was filed.

AAPD Sgt. Michael Logghe was unavailable for comment today.

"We are also going to be seeking warrants for four other folks that may include indecent exposure," DPS spokeswoman Diane Brown said.

In addition to the increased number of arrests, police officials also escalated efforts to prevent students from participating in the Naked Mile.

But its legal right.......

But it said there was 5 privately owned (membership) nude beaches in Michigan...

Ok 1st these are not all beaches they are private resorts that you have to pay a room rate to use the facilities. They are not public beaches. Second the "Naked Mile" is also on private property.

all the marijuana dispensaries we have in Michigan

Dude do you have cancer?or some other medical condition. Because that is the only way you would be able to get pot from any of these dispensaries. I have already given you the law site that states it is illegal to have/use in Michigan. You do read English? The only state that you can leagally smoke own and grow pot (meaning non medical marijuana) is Alaska and that is still in small quantities. You still have to be careful as it is still against Federal law so if the Fed wants to get you they still can.

Yeah even though i've provided you with dozens of YouTube videos and websites proving what i say.

By the way the website you provided in post 62 is the one where I found there was no nude beaches in Michigan. So when you said there was you were mistaken. Further when you made the pot statement that was false also. You tube videos don't make it legal it just means people got away with it.

90% of wat i can read in this forum are stereotypes about poland and poles.and?

Yes but is it fair to stereotype all Americans because of one who can't intelligently make a point without putting his foot in his mouth. But this forum is about opinions and the OP is entitled to his/hers.

This is stupid though. Why are we honestly arguing over something like this ?

First of all this is nothing to be proud of. Second there is plenty of censorship on American TV. You have to have cable TV to view non censored material. The reason why the F bomb was not censored is because no one in thier right mind expected a public figure to do it. And yes I was outraged so don't speak for all Americans. And Lady gaga's song is not played on the radio in its origional format either... the radio is getting a lot more liberal however.

Funny that you live in a country (Poland) that does not allow public nudity or sunbathing topless at pubbeaches.

Again, you're wrong. We have 5 nude beaches in Michigan. We love public nudity in Michigan. Here is a news video about the famous "Naked Mile" in Michigan that happens every year. The movie "American Pie" was based off this. Again, i bet this wouldn't be allowed in Poland =]]]

Public nudity is illegal in Michigan, so places for social nudity are limited to clubs and organizations with private land. These include:

Turtle Lake Resort in Union City.[83]
Northaven Resort in Brooklyn[84]
Cherry Lane Resort in North Adams[85]
Forest Hills Club in Saranac[86]
Spruce Hollow Campground in Mesick[87]

There are no nude beaches in Michigan I know this because my sister in law is a nudest and left Michigan and now lives in West Virginia in a clothing optional community.

Yes, but it does shows how little you Europeans know about America. You acted as if Poland was the only country in the world to have nude beaches... when in reality...we have hundreds of nude beaches across the USA.

Actually the Usa is aproximately 30 times the size of the Poland. Considering thier are aproximetely 96 nude beaches across the Usa. And unless I read this wrong there is 6 in Poland. Percentage wise Poland has more beaches per sq km.

Genealogy / Americans of Polish descent. How many of us are on Polish forums? [216]

Mark - thank you for being honest about this. Most of the US Polonia that visit this site seem to be in complete denial about their family - but you've told the truth and for that, I applaud you. There's no shame in this - but people seem to regard it as something shameful.

I was always curious about this fact as she came from a fairly wealthy family. Zadrozny. They owned several farms and a rather large forestry buisness. My grandmother worked on thier dairy farm. Education wasn't as much a necessity back then, surviving was is my take on it. I think most of the Us Polonia on here are just not used to harsh conditions. We live a pretty good lives here.

It's a bit off topic, but did you know that such a thing barely exists, if at all in Poland?

I am surprised is this because most shop owners clean thier own windows?

yeah, all polish who immigrated
after 1919..

Curious why after 1919?

My grandfather came here in 1905. My grandmother I think 7 years later. He left the family farm (he hated the family buisness) and went to America. I personelly believe he also left to avoid being asked to serve in the Russian military. He died when I was young and we didn't get to speak much. My grandmother was not well educated and did not speak much english so I didn't get to speak with her much either. My father can speak Polish but never tought his children. He married my mother who is 100% Irish. I have always been curious about my heritage so of course I began digging on Ancestry. com.... I own a window cleaning buisness in NJ and NYC. I have done most of what I can as far as finding my relatives as far back as the early 1800's.....unfortunately the records don't exist prior.

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

it rather not possible. most of polish jews lived separately in their towns - "sztetl".

This is statement made out of ignorance. The reason most Jews stick together in a small community is because of them keeping holy on thier sabbath. They have to walk to thier churches.. it only makes sense that they live as close to thier church as possible.. Further most of the Jewish people I know are highly intelligent and although may prefer to speak in thier native language, you can bet they knew Polish. The problem with most people today is they only see the stereotypes. If we stopped fearing what is different we would accomplish so much more.

Genealogy / Russian Poland-what general area would this be? [30]

Many Polish people fled because they did not want to fight in the Russian army.
My grandfather did.

So does anyone know what that "K" stands for?

Not sure what the K stands for can you give us any more information. Like where it was on the immigration form? Alot of practicing Jews changed over to the Catholic faith as well looking to avoid problems at port.

Genealogy / Genealogy sites in Poland. Looking for Polish family of my great-grandparent. [13]

The researcher I used charged $20.00 US. per hour of research. He came highly reccommended. I decided to contact persons he had worked for in the past as I have heard rumors of non ethical practices regarding other researchers. If you have accurate information regarding births of previous descendants, He can do alot. Most of the research done for me was done through the archives of Stary Luboten. It was rather simple for me as my name was the only family using this surname in the district. Archive research is tedious because most of the records are in Russian. I don't speak Polish or Russian so my researcher was invaluable in that regard. I could have taken a trip over there and stumbled through translations or tried to order the LDS microfilms (which we did anyway cause it is more practical when I wanted copies of documents) and tried to work through them myself. I decided to do things the more expedient way. I have discovered 4 generations on my grandmothers side of family Zadrozny. and 2 generations on my grandfathers side of the family. Skibniewski You really have to base your decisions on time and how much your willing to spend. I personelly am happy with the results but because of Emil's research I was able to contact living cousins in POland and the UK. I never knew I had. I have 35 living cousins living abroad. This information was invaluable to me.

Wow I am very surprized the Catholic church was unwilling to help, every church I have ever inquired about records has bent over backwards to help. Are you sure they were married at this church? When were thier 1st children baptised. If it was close to 1902 , they might have got married at St. Stanislaus,, Philadelphia or The Imaculate Heart Church on Second and Norris st. St. Stanislaus was the popular Polish church at the time. It was far but Polish immigrants tended to flock to Polish priests to marry them.

Good luck

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

Romans were the ones who popularised crossbows, boarding ships the way it was done to 19 century, they were the first to invent the concept of law in its modern style, public schools, they were the first to get serious about masonry and ironworks

Not sure about crossbows but it was the greeks who invented public schooling, they also had law but I agree not as modern as the Romans.

The Romans copied the Greeks.

This is very true, as they did of many and all conquered lands. The Romans ,however were organized one great nation under many gods vs the greeks who were a broken people for the most part often waging war on eachother. The Romans were the ancient version of the borg. They took what they could use and threw away the rest.

Genealogy / Genealogy sites in Poland. Looking for Polish family of my great-grandparent. [13]

There are several ways to proceed. My first question would be are you willing to spend some money in order to obtain the information you seek. Being that you don't read Polish and I assume don't speak Russian, it will be very difficult for you to obtain the information you seek. Not impossible just very difficult. If the answer is yes than post here and I will give you the name of a reliable Proffesional geneologist in Poland that I have used for the last few months and have uncovered a tremendous amount of information dating back to the early 1800's so far. If no than you will have to find what is the proper Roman catholic parish for the area in which your grandfather was born. Than you will have to send a letter requesting information on your grandparent. This is a long process but in the end is very fufilling. I personelly was not that patient and hired the pro.

Hmmmm did you read my post. Let me try again. On the top right hand corner of the page after signing in there is a box with a magnifying glass and the words Szukaj w Naszej-Klasie in it, place the surname you are looking for in this box for best results do not add a first name, after hitting the button that is marked Szukaj (green button to the right) the site will list all members with that last name who are members (for my last name it was 179 persons). If you place the mouse pointer on a members name (don't click) it will list the city where the member is living in, I suggest contacting persons in the area in which you believe your family is from first and branch out from there. I personally started from the beginning so I would not forget anyone. I was fortunate that my cousins name was Andrzej. If you hit the envelope under the persons name you can message that person. As far as posting on a forum , it has been a while since I have done this I have 2 on the site (I need help translating!) and ( Pomagają Nazwisku *Skibniewski* ) I will have to figure out how I did it and get back to you I am on my way out right now, I should return in a couple of hours. If you can find my posts they were dated 6/6/09 and received my first response on 6/9/09 and my second post I received a responce the same day on 6/9/09.

Forget Polish phonebooks unless you speak fluent Polish. Terry a few posts up had the right idea. the site nasza-klasa.pl is an incrdible source of information. It is similar to facebook in the USA. You can try facebook as well there are Polish living persons listed on facebook but I found a greater number on Nasza. After you sign up its free. In the upper right hand corner of the page there is a search box put the surname in and hit szukaj button . This will list all persons with this surname on the site. Maybe I was lucky or just determined but I found my second cousin once removed on the site. I listed all the names I had to date the most recent was my great uncle married in 1924. If you post and can't write in Polish there are persons on the site that are gems and will help with tranlations or letter writing (meaning you can post in english and people will respond) . The great thing about this site is that it is a public site so people who are listed or are members are not afraid of being found and for the most part are willing to help. I now have the names of 35 living cousins in Poland and in the UK.

The site takes some getting used to ...I did alot of copy and pasting to a free polish to english tranlator online to figure out what I was doing. I do not speak a word of Polish and I figured it out so can you.

Genealogy / Easy way to find out which Polish coat of arm/Clan you belong to. [105]

I have found my surname to be connected in some way to the Ślepowron clan.Is anyone else associated with this clan or knows something about it? I am unfamiliar with this clan and am very interested if anyone knows of any worthwhile reading material or sources I may look at to gather more info on the subject rather than Wikipedia.
