News / Crucifixes to stay in Polish schools [364]

As I have said many times in the past, during conversations with the vast majority of my students, they believed in going to church, but mostly so that they wouldn't be looked down upon from their peers. When you would actually question their beliefs, most wouldn't agree with the church.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [901]

and especially to the UK's dominance.

Not exactly true. The First world war took part because 3 cousins, King of England, Germany and Russia didnt get on too well. Second World war was rather a glitch in the plans. The banks provided a large amount of money to both sides. Poland was unfortunate to be where it was, but it never seemed to learn anything from the intolerance Germany brought with it.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [901]

On the backing that America wanted an end to the European war to continue their offensive in Asia. Something they kept up for many a year and never won.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [901]

Nobody really helped Poland. The UK were the first heavyweights to declare war on Germany, but it wasn't so easy to prepare a whole empire to war. The Americans sold Poland to Russia and Stalin despite Churchill wanting to push on. Even in Poland they are taught some cock and bull story about most of the war. So its really hard to straighten out the facts.

Travel / Poland wildlife and similar wild life where you live. [240]

I was brought up in a hunting family. By the age of 6 i knew what the insides of most animals looked like, i also had a basic understanding exactly where my meat came from, how it was looked after ect. I DO think that makes a big impact on what i buy today. I was always taught by a local game keeper that you only hunt for animals you can be certain of will not make it through the harsh Scottish winters or will have a bad effect on the local environment. And even then it should only be down to the gamekeeper to decide how to run his land and livestock. In Scotland we have a big deer problem, which can be controlled by many means, but selective hunting is probably the best form. A stalker is not allowed to shot anything in site, he must only choose what the gamekeeper see's fit. This is what hunting should be about. But unfortunately it isnt always the case :/

Food / BREAD IN POLAND IS DETERIORATING [90]

Aye, my local baker made some of the best rolls and chicken pasties i've ever had. I'd rather spend a wee bit more on something that will last, than have to go to the shop every day to buy a half loaf. One more thing, where are the decent bread rolls?

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Seanus are you saying there are no rich, good looking people in Poland? Good looking people can have lousy jobs, true. They can be in debt.

U are again being general.
Make a valid point eh?
Geeez please engage in the debate

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

I was making observations about beautiful women. Seanus you have to admit women are luckier if they are beautiful no matter where they are. Beauty is something prized among women and their admirers.

As a psych nurse, i think you have more of a problem with this than most people. Whats wrong with being good looking? You sound like someone who has been fecked over by someone u regard as more beautiful than u. Give it up, its like a broken record. Those who do well in life are those who use their abilities the best, trust me i know.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Not quite. There comes a point when beautiful/handsome people are judged on character.

I had the same point.

PP i think you are only judging by your own opinions. Open up girl, doesn't make a difference if you're hot or not.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

If she were much more attractive with the same talent she would have been discovered long ago.

She was discovered a long time ago, she used to make music singles for charities.
It just seems to me you have a problem with good looking people, are you that self aware?

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

I see plenty of good looking people going to college and plenty of ugly people working as cashiers at wal mart, lol. I sure don't see good looking people working there.

That has nothing to do with anything. Work as a cashier if you don't have qualifications. I think you're mixing looks with education, therefor i think that you have just made the point that ugly people have no brains?

I know people like that here and they have the jobs and money, lol. Seanus, I am not the one who writes the rules so why blame me? Look around and you will see. The good looking people are the ones with the easy lives, jobs, moneys, promotions, qualifications, etc etc etc ect ect.

I'm not to sure about that. You can't just say cos someone is good looking they have easier lives. Sometimes good-looks can hinder a persons progress in life. With people assuming that just because they are beautiful, they know ****.

Language / Problems Polish People Have with Learning English [63]

Also prepositions usually trip them up. Quick lesson;
The general rule is that we use-
At with clock times (at 4 o'clock)
On with days of the week (on Monday) and with dates (on May 21).
In with with months of the year (in March) and with years (in 2003).
We can expand this rule as follows-

At for meal times (at lunch time);points of time (at night); festivals (at Christmas).

On for parts of specific days (on Monday morning); particular occasions (on that day); anniversaries (on your birthday); festivals (on Christmas day).

In (=during) for parts of the day (in the evening); seasons (in (the) summer); centuries (in the 19th century); periods of time (in the holidays, in Ramadan).

Po polsku / Nazywam się Jade i mieszkam w Anglii. [37]

Polish grammar is really something hard to learn. I found the best way was not to try and understand it, but just to accept it as it is. Explaining English grammar is a piece of cake for me, but Polish is another story. For me, someone new to the language should just learn key phrases ect, then attempt to tackle grammar.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

as i said before, we should strive to improve not only ourselves, but our teaching itself.
Doors will open for us, and despite the strange rep i have on here, i hold down a full time job, plus 12 private students, and im a consultant at one of Polands biggest firms. I never show up late for a lesson, i often spend more than i need too explaining grammar, and through that fact i live a healthy life here ;)

However, the other guy is a Scotsman :)

Like you know, if you knew me in real life, you would see the difference.
A lot of natives who come to Krakow end up in the same wagon, they earn a decent wage but dont know how to spend it properly. It was something i fell for a lot when i first came here. After a while i soon learned that competition in Krakow was fierce, so i gave up the parties, and put myself out there. Ive been here now 4 years, and doors are starting to open, I always had a saying, no teacher is perfect, but every teacher should try to make their students perfect.
