Life / What do Poles want, what drives them...? [58]

Power is for me a state of mind. Psychological sense of power?
Everybody can be powerful if he wants to. The problem is about:when and why. If You want power, you will get it, because your mind needs it. Say to Your mind: I want to be a king: you become him in the same moment.

When I am happy and healthy, I am powerful, I can have whatever I want then.
I am filled with energy and power when I realize my dreams. If I want money, I will get them somehow because it depends only on me.

If i killed you would i be more powerful?

Maybe, I don't know.

Life / The Poles - do they "bumble" through life? [29]

"Bumbling along through life"?
We work, have families, try hard to be someone, many of us have high motivation to enjoy better life.
Bumbling... What a nonsense.
A similar one? Do Afroamericans in slams "bumbling" through life?
Yes, many of them do, but, they are just a little part of American society. Poles are nationality.
Again, I have to say that I hate the title of the thread. Awful, harmful, biased and horrible +it's author presents a silly racializm.

So, author, no, you are not right IMO.
Tremendous minority do, about 90% don't. Like in most European societies.

News / 100 days of Komorowski presidency [41]

It's normal finally. I like Komorowski very much.
He is modest, able to cooperate with wise people. People respect him. I do respect him too very much. Besides, he looks very good. He is a very positive good diplomat.

Polish politics is brutal and savage enough without the president jumping into the middle of the scrum.

I agree.
The thing I hate the most about Polish politics is it's aggressive language and being rough. I am happy that Komorowski is so reasonable and he seems to think many times before making steps in public.

Being brutal in media is a big mistake. Finally we have a president who is different.
I hope he will become better, smarter, wiser, more experienced with every decision he will take and more self confident. He has all features that allows him to gain higher popularity and respect of his voters.

News / 100 days of Komorowski presidency [41]

I hate when somebody is too critical. I try to see positive aspects of his behaviour and trials to rule the strange and overcritical Polish society. I try to see good sides, and of course, I can see only "haha" as an answer. This is really awful. No matter how much people try to be good, every time somebody will see something negative. Weird Polish character!

Gosh!
Polish people! Notice good things! Notice small things! Don't criticize too much. It depends only on You what will You see!
I see Komorowski is handsome, he has a beautiful wife, he wants the best for us!
Ohhh, and yes, I think he is handsome.
;)
Maybe instead of seeing negative sides will You try a bit harder to find a good ones?
Be patriots Polacy!

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [148]

zetigrek
It is a custom and EVERY child gives flowers to his/her class tutor.Of course it is not a bribe or anything like that. Just a standard way of showing a respect for a profession of teacher.

I agree with the post. Sometimes one class gives bunch of flowers. Some younger students used to give sweet little gifts like a candle in a shape of a ladybird or a water lily for teachers they liked very much.

It happens more often to get one nosegay from a class than a flower form every student.
Tutor gets as a gift dinner-set or tea-set or something like it when his class finishes school.
What would I give to a male tutor?
I don't know
A bottle of Vodka?
;)

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

how do you deal with that stress? :)

I'm not stressed at all. I love the weather. It's fascinating, these little shining snowflakes falling down from the sky.
An Old Town in my city looks impressive.
However waking up in the morning is not easy.
Helpless faces on TV, yeeah, that's right, I decided to watch News only and CNN from time to time.

How to convince foreign investors to trust Polish economy now?
I guess they are a bit too sceptical about the growth.

Love / Polish women are complicated. Why? [51]

Do you want to say, rt3d that women from other countries don't watch TV?
Is watching TV shows originally Polish or what?
It's strange, that you don't notice Polish girls who have a high ambition to become a model and take part in the programme, but You see Polish women who watch the show.

I would change You thread on:
Why so many Polish women have high ambition to become a famous model, then You eventually could answer, "Because they have no ambition to become a student".

I wish I were younger.
I wish I were a student again.
I want to have my own happiness back (I'm closer with every day)
I want 100 other things.
But the thing I want the most now is a cat to hug.

I have three cats I feed who hang around my house.
It's enough. I hug them every time I see them.
One is a strange orange creature, two are black.
Which one should I choose?
I can't have them all!

I don't believe we don't have ambitions. We like to have them, really many of us do.
Today my ambition was except doing well at my work to visit my friend and to make our meeting nice, fascinating and interesting. Silly? Yes, maybe.

So many people I know want something more than just everyday work, having a family and duties. Ambitions are a matter of my mind. They are equal for me to dreams. I have many dreams and some ambitions. But I am an incorrect dreamer.

I want make one hundred of my plans to come true. A good goal, don't You think?
And then, after getting it, I want to dream more...

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

A very interesting article. I liked it very much.
It can see it says Russian personnel of the Imperial Russian Army, and Russian civilians was captured by Germany during World War I and left on Polish territory after the end of the war;

It also says that "Due to epidemics raging at the time" the Russian people died.
They were in camps... They were prisoners...
Being a prisoner is extremely difficult. Many people can just go on a fence and to get a shot in their back, because they wanted to escape. Prisoners have to listen to their superiors. In other case they could lose their life.

Being in place like this You have to be soo clever and strong to survive! It depends in most cases if You were born under a lucky star or not!

There is not a matter of other people who will allow You to live (in many cases of course). There was a war. Conditions were, like it usually happens, in those times, very very hard.

Surviving was a matter of a character and power inside you. When You body dies it may mean that Your soul does not want to live in Your body anymore.

It's not a matter of anybody's fault IMPO.
I feel sorry for all people who had to be in places like this one. They are all in my memory and my heart.
Their nationality in not important. They were all victims of the War.

History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

Saying that Tuchola is a roots of Katyń is a huge exaggeration.
You can't compare those two places. Among many because of the reason:
Russian there died because of epidemy, they were not killed by Polish soldiers
I will remember about Russian victims in Tuchola.

We can call shoots in Katyn as epidemic too.

We can't. Shoots need performers of the action.
Epidemy is more like an event which is independent on anybody's will. It's difficult to stop because it expands without anybody's fault.

Really? What would you say if somebody had placed you both behind the barbwire and starved you their?

I'd say: you have no right to place me here. I have a human right to live and not to be hungry. So, I would say: let me go, please. I prefer to die because of hunger or epidemy than to be killed because of Your irresponsible action filled with violence and aggression.

Why you are not interested in facts. Watch the film.

I am interested in facts very much. I love history. I can't watch the film because my loudspeakers are out of order right now.

ConstantineK
Did I get a shot in my back for disobedience?
For what?
If I were in a prison I would never go on a fence or barbed wires to escape. I would have been able to predict that somebody wanted to kill me. I love life too much to make such irresponsible step.

I would rather do anything what possible to survive and to listen my torturers. Even if I had awfully bad opinion about them. I know what does it mean to be obedient, Sir.

:)
I have to say that a way people think being in extreme conditions is strange.

Language / Differences in Polish and English idioms [69]

I find useful these ones:
"the tip of the iceberg": wierzchołek góry lodowej
"play second fiddle": grać drugie skrzypce
"the bottom line": bilans zysków i strat - a bit different meaning in Polish, what is interesting
"keep your chin up": nie upadać na duchu, nie poddawać się
"turn the corner": wyść z kryzysu na prostą
A bit amusing?
"flog a dead horse": tracić czas i energię

Life / How do the Polish feel about air pollution in their cities? [35]

I feel good in my city. It's not the cleanest, there are plenty cars and huge traffic on the roads
Doing anything with it is difficult. You have to get used to it, that's all what I can say.
Krakow is next to Silesia and this is very polluted area in Poland, plenty mines, many cities that are placed not very far away one from another.

Why aren't You somewhere else? So many cities are much cleaner than Kraków.

Life / The Art of Complaining by Polish people [47]

I think complaining can be also said in a nice way. It depends on somebody's voice. People have often a distance to complaining because it is often considered as our national treat. It drives me mad a bit.

I also agree with PlasticPole that it might be constructive in many cases.
You can thanks to it notice more optimistical/lighter aspects of a situation. You disagree with somebody and thanks to it you can see more clearly what is not good, what has to be improved, what should be changed for better...

However "what a wonderful evening" sounds a lot better than: "what a s****, cold, winter day".

Love / Craziness and Polki - these two go together [33]

Southern, let me ask You a question: are you intelligent Greek macho or helplessly silly Greek teenager (around 16-17) who has failed his class in high school and is bored with repeating Maths?

As a teacher I will tell You: it's a close question, avoid them.
Some are, some aren't.
Thank you for attention Southern and good night to all, 22.41 in Poland.

Life / Is Poland a place of high culture? [36]

I'll help. I think Southern wanted to ask about: art, architecture, literature, philosophy, old cities and its atmosphere, ballroom dancing, artist and their activities, museums, galerries, exibitions. Am I right, Southern? It may also mean the way how somebody behaves, I mean, when he/she doesn't says s**** all the time to express his'her enthusiasm. It's actually so general question that finding an answer on it is impossible. Try to specify, Southern, what did you want to know?

In Polish your sentence is: "Polacy to wysoka kultura": it's not very understandable but interesting.

Love / Craziness and Polki - these two go together [33]

Southern
Your question is silly. You won't know anything about "Polki" in theory. Register on a chat room and just talk with Polish girls. You are asking about features of character. You can't generalise about them because it's harmful for many of us. Again, I will ask you: are you good or are you bad? What will you tell me? "I'm good, you can say, but I have some bad shades on my character." The same is with "Polki". We are like many women from all over the world and we also differ because for sure some of us have national treats like being for example overemotional or too proud. Geess, Southern, meet new people in real, stop thinking about Polish girls: you will do what you want but you won't become much wiser reading about womens' characters. Are you too shy to flirt with girls in chat-rooms? I'm sure you aren't.

Good advice from me: meet new people, stop analising about them. It's a bit pointless.
