Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

The UK would rather that , than the polish parasite Infection, that we now have.

I know it is open forum but I suggest than moderator ( instead of picking on out of subjects plots and moving them around) just remove idiotic ,racist post of some idiot from Liverpool.

UK, Ireland / Polish in Britain - will I get decked if I speak Polish to these people? [63]

He hasn't needed to learn though. He lives in a polish area. Works for polish boss. Polish friends.

It is very bad. I met someone like this when I was in USA- it is very isolated, restricted life. And no interest even in local culture, tv, newspapers....

Life / Hesitation to emigrate in Poland from Singapore with 8.000 zlotys a month job offer [9]

I think it would be enough ( also depends on in which town) but everyone is different. Maybe you should go for short holidays to Poland first. I know holiday is not the same like living there but just for general feeling.

For me it would be very brave to move to completely new country I know very little about.

This is relevant to the OP who is a black woman. In her place would you walk around Gocław or Chomiczowka alone at night?

You assume too much.Graffiti- work of some stupid kids just to write something controversial.....These are not some organized gangs.

I can ask the same question- Would I like to be at night in some rough area of London or Glasgow....probably no.

Talking about tolerance- just few facts from Wikipedia : As we are so patronized as backward intolerant country ...that it starts getting irritating.

""Homosexuality was never illegal under Polish law, and Poland was one of the first countries to avoid punishing homosexuality in early modern era. This was formally codified in 1932, and Poland introduced an equal age of consent for homosexuals and heterosexuals,""

"" Labour Home Secretary. When passed, The Sexual Offences Act decriminalised homosexual acts between two men over 21 years of age in private in England and Wales.[55] The 1967 Act did not extend to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, where all homosexual behaviour remained illegal. USA, Canada / Polish mother in law wants to move in - what can we do?? [10]

I think that lots women all over the world like to have their mum close when baby is born.

But it usually lasts for few weeks and then mums go back to their old life.

When I read about your mother in law I was just thinking about someone I recently met through work. She was also abused by alcoholic husband. And she is very clingy, flat,no ambitions....

I think this could be a problem- Can she just go for some therapy?

I think very few people would suggest that there is less homophobia in the UK than in Poland

I think homophobia is like racism- Each country has some share of them but it their actions are usually suppressed by low
.Brexit is a good example- all low life racist rats are getting out of sewage now.

As per shave headed ( often football hooligans) you are right they should be avoided.

It does not matter where they live they are openly gays- so it contradicts your statement.

I have been living in UK for 14 years so I also know how this 'tolerance' looks here. It is paradise no racists, no homophobia...Ha,ha really

You clearly know nothing about Poland. Statements Generalizing country of 40 mln are just stupid.

I don't live in Poland so I am not up to date with all of them.

I am not sure if you ever read -I love Marcin Szczygielski books.

But Anna Grodzka is good example- She is transgender- I am not sure if you have any in UK Parliament?

Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

When I worked for a large firm here with several people of colour, both men and women, the ones with horror stories to tell were men with dark skin who had Polish wives or girlfriends

I believe you. I think its hidden complexes so by nasty racist behavior they feel them selves more important.

It is not different to leaflets left i Huntington after Brexit- 'Polish vermin go home'.

their

Thank you for advice but I am still very Polish :-)

Life / Being a Jew in modern-day Poland; Israeli Jew who is of Polish descent [269]

[moved from]

As far as racisim in Poland, I feel once again that a random, identifiable Jew would be at far greater risk than a black woman, as the latter is not seen as a threat to take over Polish society.

I don't think that it is the case. I was born and educated in Krakow and unfortunately I don't live there now but we have Jewish culture festival in Krakow, there is small Jewish community which is settled very well , Kazimierz has changed from rundown area to pleasant ,booming district....In general I was brought up in quite positive attitude to Jewish culture but since I emigrated my feeling cooled down. I think there is quite strong anti polish feeling among some Jews in America which is quite sad.

The latter I have on good authority from Polish Jews returning to their parents' villages during the late '80's, early '90's, and being identifiably Jewish, had less than positive experiences:-)

I think that as dolnaslask said it is different generation.I think lots of older people could have not so good memories about Jews action too ( joining UB special services in 50 -ies which tormented and broke lots people.)

while traveling through Polish villages might well yield stares, occasional cat calls or unwanted and self-conscious staring!

Remember- life in little villages is dull like dishwater water so looking at someone who is different is quite a bit entertainment.:-) they would look at anyone different.

That is why I always preferred living in bigger cities. If I was to live in one of these little villages I would feel like ,buried alive'!!!!

Anyway I plan to visit Krakow next year during Jewish festival and these restaurants on Kazimierz serve very good food :-)

Ha- I think there is one thing that Jewish and Polish have in common- we like to feel as a 'victims' of the world :-)

Talking about Polaphobes... I vaguely remember was it few months ago...some Rabbi in New York organising some hateful march in front of Polish embassy....

Classifieds / Polish domiciliary carer worker in Bromley area [20]

To be honest 'Polish' is only in title of this thread. I assume that they look for someone who speaks English I doubt they pay much plus hours are not very sociable and work probably hard. I don't see crowd of English queuing for this job. With sure not all these work-shy on benefits.

I think it is also advertised in UK and they struggle to find someone so nothing offensive.....

If it was written in Polish and directed only to Polish it would be different matter.

low paid job- They don't pay below minimum wages as it is illegal so who is exploited?.

Please, don't twist my words I said 'these work-shy on benefits' I did not say English are lazy.- I understand in your opinion it is better to do nothing and moan, moan moan instead of doing some job? Any job start somewhere, them move on. NO on minimum wages you can rent room for yourself ( don't say about London).

Classifieds / Polish domiciliary carer worker in Bromley area [20]

Maybe, I never did this kind of job but no doubts it is hard. Again if someone from Poland ( EU) who speaks English decides to do this job and does not like it she/he can always go back. It is not prison.

just pointing out that this job is looking for women to exploit. It might even be a front for prostitution, and Londoners are smart enough to know that.

I am not sure why you are so angry.

Maybe they are dodgy or .....maybe they just struggle with staff. I don't know but I don't assume things if I don't know.

No, you made it up. I did not wriggle out of anything and you are very good at twisting things- what I said was ' work shy on benefits will not go to do this job'- and as a matter of fact it does not matter if it was English, German, French... whatever. Some people will not do it. That is just how it is.

And most people with families will not do it either as hours are awful that is why I said that English will not queue for it..

And you start going on my nerves too with this twisting and some odd oversensitiveness. Time to finish this discussion:-(

Law / Getting married in Poland (documentation, church) [42]

If it was only church marriage I don't think you can register it.

In Poland official marriage is in registry office. If you are Catholic you can combine both. If you have some registry confirmation from Philippines I think it would need to be translated into Polish language and submitted to relevant office in Poland. I ma not sure if it can be done by post or your husband will have to do it by himself.

UK, Ireland / British people more intelligent than the Poles? [53]

I think it is more about education and general 'open mind' than intelligence.I know it is not very serious but I was quite impressed by young Japanese in this film. I would assume that Poland is completely alien land for them but on ( not very good map) they had general idea where Poland is.

I have bad feeling that average British person stopped on the street would have problem with it.

to be fair I think average polish person stopped on the street will have problem to locate Japan on map or find Japanese capital.

I suppose some of Eastern countries have different level- kind of general education.

Surely you don't mean that we are all uneducated and closed-minded? ;)

Of course not :-)- I live in Cambridge- got you into complexes- too many clever people in one small town.
