Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

I don't live in Poland so I am not up to date with all of them.

I am not sure if you ever read -I love Marcin Szczygielski books.

But Anna Grodzka is good example- She is transgender- I am not sure if you have any in UK Parliament?

It does not matter where they live they are openly gays- so it contradicts your statement.

I have been living in UK for 14 years so I also know how this 'tolerance' looks here. It is paradise no racists, no homophobia...Ha,ha really

You clearly know nothing about Poland. Statements Generalizing country of 40 mln are just stupid.

I think very few people would suggest that there is less homophobia in the UK than in Poland

I think homophobia is like racism- Each country has some share of them but it their actions are usually suppressed by low
.Brexit is a good example- all low life racist rats are getting out of sewage now.

As per shave headed ( often football hooligans) you are right they should be avoided.

USA, Canada / Polish mother in law wants to move in - what can we do?? [10]

I think that lots women all over the world like to have their mum close when baby is born.

But it usually lasts for few weeks and then mums go back to their old life.

When I read about your mother in law I was just thinking about someone I recently met through work. She was also abused by alcoholic husband. And she is very clingy, flat,no ambitions....

I think this could be a problem- Can she just go for some therapy?

This is relevant to the OP who is a black woman. In her place would you walk around Gocław or Chomiczowka alone at night?

You assume too much.Graffiti- work of some stupid kids just to write something controversial.....These are not some organized gangs.

I can ask the same question- Would I like to be at night in some rough area of London or Glasgow....probably no.

Talking about tolerance- just few facts from Wikipedia : As we are so patronized as backward intolerant country ...that it starts getting irritating.

""Homosexuality was never illegal under Polish law, and Poland was one of the first countries to avoid punishing homosexuality in early modern era. This was formally codified in 1932, and Poland introduced an equal age of consent for homosexuals and heterosexuals,""

"" Labour Home Secretary. When passed, The Sexual Offences Act decriminalised homosexual acts between two men over 21 years of age in private in England and Wales.[55] The 1967 Act did not extend to Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, where all homosexual behaviour remained illegal. Life / Hesitation to emigrate in Poland from Singapore with 8.000 zlotys a month job offer [9]

I think it would be enough ( also depends on in which town) but everyone is different. Maybe you should go for short holidays to Poland first. I know holiday is not the same like living there but just for general feeling.

For me it would be very brave to move to completely new country I know very little about.

UK, Ireland / Polish in Britain - will I get decked if I speak Polish to these people? [63]

He hasn't needed to learn though. He lives in a polish area. Works for polish boss. Polish friends.

It is very bad. I met someone like this when I was in USA- it is very isolated, restricted life. And no interest even in local culture, tv, newspapers....

The UK would rather that , than the polish parasite Infection, that we now have.

I know it is open forum but I suggest than moderator ( instead of picking on out of subjects plots and moving them around) just remove idiotic ,racist post of some idiot from Liverpool.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

UKIP seems to have some fixation about commonwealth countries.....apparently European people don't fit in UK but people from commonwealth fit here perfectly.

There is some truth in in it that emigrants do lower jobs- mainly it is confidence , language barrier.... but it relates mainly to first generation of emigrants.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

That is the problem - people moan about cheap labour but they also want cheap products in the shops. If we increase wages prices will go up and it will cause even higher moan. Like we will pay £3.50 for box of strawberry instead £2.00- so sell dramatically drops and jobs get reduced to.

I am not economist it is just common sense:-)

Plus - I am not sure if labour is always so cheap- I think farmers pay decent wages but for hard work. Lots of young people quick and fit are probably quite happy with it.

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

You both talk rubbish- UK rely ( vastly ) on emigrants to do these jobs so if not Polish there would be other emigrants to do these low paid jobs. If there were no emigrants, benefits would be cut and some locals would have to do it. Just survival necessity.

And Polish are as lazy as other nation some are some not and this living 10 to a room... repeated stereotype. Maybe in the very beginning not now

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

The biggest mistake and shame for Europe is that we did not help people who really needed it. Vulnerable Syrians who lost everything were lost, stomped in crowd of arrogant oportunists men from Pakistan, Somalia....

Ha, ha-Jon you live in some communistic utopia world - no border, re-distribution of wealth....- It would be great idea lazy leeches living on people who work hard.

UK, Ireland / Dual nationality: British and Polish [68]

3 years for EU person.

This 5 years permanent residence is for non EU citizens- For instance Chinese lives in Poland for 5 years- then applies for permanent residence.IT means he can live and work in Poland. But this work permission relates only to Poland as he applied there.

If you are EU it is 3 years.

This description applies only for non-EU person. If someone was born in UK/Germany/France.....she/he is resident of EU since birth so he/she needs only 3 years in Poland to apply for citizenship.

That what was original question about.

EU/EEA/CH citizens must be legally resident here for 5 years, with no more than a 6 month break in that time to apply for permanent residency.

I think this only relates to non EU citizen who stayed in EU country for 5 years and can apply for permanent residence.

You can simply say 3 years is enough as EU nationals don't need permit to reside like non-EU nationals

I think this interpretation is correct. You can ask different people on forum but I would suggest phoning them- there is 'kontakt' on this web. This way you will be 100% sure and clear about your situation.

udsc.gov.pl/en/cudzoziemcy/obywatele-panstw-trzecich/chce-osiedlic-sie-w-polsce/zezwolenie-na-pobyt-rezydenta-dlugoterminowego-ue

another link in English- I am not sure if I understand it correctly but 5 years to be granted permanent residence in UE. Minimum 2 years of it Poland to get residence in Poland .

No it does not add up as 3+5.
I understand that you have to be minimum 3 years in Poland to apply for citizenship. You could be 2 years somewhere in UE than 3 in Poland so you have residence and also can apply for citizenship.

What I ask is particularly about EU nationals who want to apply for Polish citizenship and I could not find accurate answers so far.

It is irrelevant if you are UE or non-UE citizen. You should have been living in Poland for minimum 3 years ( or 2 if married to polish citizen)

UK, Ireland / Why are Poles in the UK complaining of racism when you are racist? [73]

From my experience of living here it is not super tolerant country. It is like any others...

That is true this is small minority of ignorant yobs plus small group of 'little Englanders' with big 'chips on their shoulder'. Unfortunately these racists behaviours are picked by local/national press and brings very negative feelings.

I think in Poland racists behaviour is often effect of ignorance. Let's be honest except big cities there are not may foreigners in Poland ( don't count Ukrainians as they are very assimilated)

In UK it is sometimes just pure nastiness of some people.

It also does not help that for the last few months British press was banging on and on all the time how Polish /emigrants work for minimum wages ( drag them down) use NHS, schools..... Daily Mail or rather Daily Hate was a master at it. So we can partly thank press for these anti immigration feelings here.

Plus as I said before - with 1 million Ukrainians in Poland do we attack them? Does Polish press bangs on how they take our jobs, their children go to our schools, doctors,.... NO.

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

Obtaining licence and meeting hygene and safety demand's doesn't mean 'home cooked food' served :-).

Of course they are busy , after few drinks and if someone never tried anything better it is what it is.

Of course there are lovely country pubs ,well advertised and well priced with good proper food. But there are few of them. majority pubs serve have processed and cooked food brought from some factories which is just warmed up on premises.

Yes, some servr nice Sunday lunch but only some of them cook it on premises.

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

I like Polish cuisine, but there really is a limited choice compared to the UK

That is true that in UK there is bigger choice of dishes but it is slowly changing in Poland. You can easily find lamb/game in bigger towns like Krakow/Warsaw.

But....saying that most pubs in UK serve home-cooked food?- I think that you live in 'dreamland-cockooland ,- Most pubs in UK serve awful processed food as most of them don't even have proper kitchens.I would say that most people working there don't have much idea about cooking except warming dishes in microwave.

UK, Ireland / Curious about differences Polish people see with the British? [95]

To be honest I don't quite understand purpose of questions asked in the shops 'How are you today'? 'what are your plans for the evening' ?- I find it bizarre and someway patronizing.

Wouldn't be enough to smile and say 'good morning/afternoon' 'How can I help' ?

Luckily it doesn't happen very often and from my observation these questions are usually asked by young /cocky boys :-)
