If you've ever been to Israel, you'd see more of them languishing in shopping malls than in refugee camps. All Arabs living in Israel proper are either citizens or they rejected citizenship for political/ideological reasons. Perpetuating a refugee problem is the intentional policy of Arabs who benefit politically from this situation. In the years that Jordan and Egypt controlled the West Bank and Gaza, the refugee camps were not dismantled. Palestinians in Lebanon and Syria are not allowed to live outside the refugee camps. Palestinians in Lebanon and Syria are not given the right to work in certain professions and their ownership of land is limited.

For the record, I find it surprising that she should be fined for saying that she doesn't believe in the Bible. Is that a crime in Poland? You don't believe in the bible and no one bothers you. If you believed in it, you would know who was "chosen".

Oops! You're right. The Phillipines were/was definitely a colony. The Bronx was also occupied by white settlers in the 1700s at the expense of the native-american inhabitants of the Bronx. (One can only imagine what their accent must have sounded like). But seriously, when people say "The Ukraine" they refer to what was a region of Russia until very recently. Is that colonialist? Was it ever an independent country before that?

Definitely trolling. Every now and then, when things get quiet on PF, someone tries to start an argument by bringing in the anti-semitism issue. I don't see anything new or interesting in this discussion.

If someone has anything original to say about Polish-Jewish relations, I'd like to hear it. For example, how about the portrayal of Jews in Polish literature, and of Poles in Jewish literature? The cultural identity of Jews in pre-war Poland (polish / german / russian / lithuanian influences etc), Jews in the Polish army and in the 19th century rebellions, Jewish participation in the Polish films industry, influence of Polish nationalism on Jewish nationalism (zionism). There are a lot of good topics to discuss, but the trolls just want to rehash the old boring arguments.

I think racial classification is a pseudo-science and an irrelevant way of classifying human beings. So then, you ask, what is "racism"? Racism is a type of hatred based on this pseudo-science. The people who believe in it disagree with my opinion.

How do you decide what qualifies as hatred and not only that but hatred based on racism and what doesn't qualify as one of those two things? Is there a qualitative way to measure this or are we drifting towards pseudo-science?

This is in the realm of sociology, which is not an exact science. It's not pseudo-science because it doesn't claim to be an exact science. Racist theories, on the other hand, do claim to be scientific. When the nazis measured skulls, they were trying to give a scientific justification to their paranoia. Hutus didn't use racial theories to kill Tutsis. But that didn't make them any better.

The revival of Hebrew was a central part of zionist goal of reviving the independence of the jewish people. It was as hard to get jews away from yiddish as it was to get Irish away from English. In pre-state palestine, people talking yiddish in the street were sometimes reprimanded by passers by and told to speak Hebrew and not "jargon". This of course didn't stop my grandmother from speaking only Yiddish. But the fact is that today millions of people have Hebrew as their mother tongue. This was unimaginable 100 years ago.

Let me ask you a simple question: If Israel has any policy of exterminating Arabs, how is it that i see Arabs in the street and in stores every day here in my Israeli town? How can it be that there are arabs living all over israel leading normal lives and enjoying more political rights than any citizen of an arab country? If we are the new nazis, how can all that be true? And yet I see it every day! You simply have no idea about what Israel really is, and instead you just repeat lies and bullshit. I have nothing against arabs. I do have something against filth like you.

Every inch of land conquered by the arab forces in 1948 was "cleansed' of Jews. On the other hand, arabs continue to live in Israel to this day. Jews were forced out of Iraq and Egypt leaving all their property behind. Arabs practice ethnic cleansing in Sudan, Iraq and Egypt, against christians and jews. Where's your concern for ethnic cleansing when the arabs are doing it?

I never heard that one before. So I just checked the text of Sanhedrin 59a (in the original Aramaic/Hebrew text) and sure enough, your quote is not there. I did see there the opinion of Rav Meir quoted where he says that a non-Jew who studies torah is as holy as the high priest in the temple.

This is true. The US did almost nothing to specifically help Jews in the holocaust. Obviously they fought Germany, but they could have let in refugees during the war and they didn't, they could have bombed auschwitz and they didn't. So his statement has a point. But this is the first I'm hearing that Poland paid compensation to the US, which included money due to former polish jews in the US. When did that happen?

This guy sounds fake. I'm a Jew, as you all know, and since I was born I've been almost exclusively among Jews, socially, in Synagogues, in school, in yeshiva, in the army, at work, and I must have come in contact with thousands of Jews over the years, in many countries, and read more books and articles than I can count about Jewish subjects. And in all this time and in all these places, I never heard of a single Jew who claims to be a descendent of the Khazars, let alone the "royal family." I've never heard of any such tradition among any Jews anywhere. Not once.

I have a feeling this post was by one of those people who– (a) think that todays Jews are descended from Khazars, and (b) want to show that Poland was always wonderfully accepting of Jews. Say what ever you want, but don't make believe you're a Khazar. I don't even think you're a Jew.

That's an odd use of the term "Anusim", which is the hebrew word for the "Conversos" of Spain – Jews who pretended to become Christians in order to avoid expulsion or death. If you're a Jew, be proud and drop the Jeszua stuff. If your a christian, that's your business, but don't pretend to speak on behalf of the jews.

So, you're a kohenet--Kaplan means "priest" or "bishop". By the way, the Matrilineal Jewishness thing wasn't recognized until 586 BC-70 AD.

It means priest, which would mean a descendent of Aharon, Moses' brother. That makes her not a Kohenet, since there's no female priesthood in Judaism, but rather a "Bat Cohen", which means the daughter of a priest. And there is no such thing as a "Bishop" in the Jewish religion.

You say matrilineal jewishness wasn't recognized till 586BC. That's a pretty long time ago. I think it's safe to say she's Jewish.

They converted to Catholicism and were swiftly kicked off of the family farm in Lipsk. Living as Crypto-Jewish Catholics in America, they established a new life. So, to answer your question, it had less to do with (if any) intermarriage and more about Crypto Judaism.

When you say "crypto-jewish catholics" do you mean they posed as catholics but were really Jews or that they posed as jews but were really catholics? This was in America? Sounds odd. In America I think it's not dangerous to be either a catholic or a jew.

That's because Bolsheviks were Bolsheviks. Their ethnicity had little to nothing to do with it.

It did in a way. Since Jews were victimized by the czarist system more than most and since they were not welcome in the polish nationalist movement , they looked for other solutions. Some were attracted to zionism, which meant having their own nationalism; many others were attracted to emigration to America; and some were attracted to communism as a way to overthrow the system and create a society where jews were legally the same as everyone else. (It goes without saying that this didn't end well for them or for everyone else). But by joining the communists they were also rebelling against their own heritage and eventually they helped to destroy their own communities. So it's true that many jews became bolsheviks, just like it's true that many jews became converts to catholicism.

First they were kicked off the farm in poland by their jewish relatives. Then they went to America and continued to pretend they were catholics, even though this was not the dominant religion in America at any time, and even though they didn't believe in it. They really picked a difficult solution. I wonder why they didn't simply move to a Jewish neighborhood and revert to their Jewishness. No wonder you have identification issues. Good luck. I hope you work it out to your satisfaction.

Does this work for Jews too?! I got a house full of pictures of Jews – my parents, my kids, my relatives – and i don't see any big return on my investment. Does the jew have to have along nose? Because none of my relatives have that. Do you think that's the problem? I'd really like to develop this and maybe export my Jew pictures.
