Work / Best TEFL course to take in Poland? [3]

None..... do CELTA as TEFL is reasonably useless in regards to preparing you to teach and in regards to what employers expect nowadays.

Work / In search of an English speaking Au Pair in Poland [14]

even if you found something she'd probably turn you down and what if the person you recommended ended up being a bad carer?

I understand, to be honest I'm helping her to write the advert, trying to help her find somewhere to post it and then let her to the interviewing and other details!

For sure I'm not going to make a decision on her behalf, as she would put the blame on me if it didn't go to plan for sure!

Well any ideas on where to post an ad? :)

Work / In search of an English speaking Au Pair in Poland [14]

I'm looking for some advice!

One of my students as asked me to assist her in finding a live-in, English speaking Au pair for her two children in the south of Poland!

I really have no idea where to start, i did some google'in but didn't find much. Where do you think would be a good place to look? i was thinking gap year students or students who have just finished collage/uni and want to try something new......

Any help will be much appreciated :)

UK, Ireland / THE BIGGEST POLISH COMMUNITY IN U.K? [40]

For sure Peterborough has a very large Polish population, strangely they have started to take over an area of town which is heavily populated by the Pakistani community.

Work / Native English speaker from the US better than from the UK to find a job in Poland? [24]

Some people say that schools prefer a British native speaker, of course the Americans disagree.

My students prefer a British accent over a Canadian or American accent, but of course, if someone wanted an American accent they wouldn't come to me :)

I think you will be fine as long as you get a good CELTA and come with an open mind :)

Travel / Ski and Snowboard - Poland 09/10 season (updated: 10/11 season) [84]

Has the area got significantly better?

They have made some investmnents on the last couple of years, currently there is about 4-5 chair lifts, which simply out numbers all other local areas. I'm yet to snowboard in Wisła, but will update in the new couple of weeks.

How long does it take you to drive from Wroclaw to Biesko-Biala?

Well in the summer i did it in about 4 hours, its a nice 2 lane motorway up to Katowice :)

perhaps a czech resort?

Sounds like a plan :) but Harracov isn't very beginner friendly. How about Špindlerův Mlýn. i haven't been but I've read it quite good. I would be up for Czarna Gora also :)

Hears two pictures taken today at Biały Krzyz. Poor conditions with about 10cm of snow, but better than doing nothing :)

Life / Winter 2010/2011 in Poland, is it going to be bad? [114]

Down south (Bielsko-Biała) had a good day in regards to snowfall, i went for a drive to Szczyrk, which was looking very wintery :)

It's not forecast to snow tomorrow until late night where a heavy snowfall is predicted :)

If you are interested in mountain snowfall :)

I was waiting for you to start up the thread for the new season, but got impatient :)

don't think there's any on the local resorts as yet.

Which resorts? a few are going to be ready for next weekend :)

Maybe we should have a PF snowboarding meeting :)

Ski and Snowboard - Poland 10/11 season

The time has come, one slope (In Szczyrk) officially fired up the drag lift and prepared the slope for the first day of trading.

It's forecast to dump loads of fluffy white stuff over the next few weeks, so we can look forward to more reports opening next week :)

A few new developments for the new season, a new 6 seater in Szklarska Poręba, a new 4 seater in Wisła for a start!

Where are people heading this year? What new ride have you treated yourself to?

Look forward to bumping into you on the slopes :)

UK, Ireland / British considering our options, as to where to live with my Polish fiance? [12]

would like to live near to my fiance's family near Głogow

I lived in Glogow last year! There isn't much to do around there! A couple of language schools which have natives (If you want to teach) In regards to KGHM in Glogow, they have a highly experienced translator who has been working for many years, so they don't have much need for a native. If you can speak German i would look at VW Polska in Polkowice.

I have nothing bad to say apart from the lack of communication with natives and lack of drinking buddies :) But its OK generally :)

If you want to stay near Glogow, but want the city feel, i would look at Wroclaw (90min drive)

If you want any information, schools to avoid etc, i still have family and pop back quite often and of course you can PM me :)

Study / Are there any other school apart from the Bell doing the CELTA in Warsaw? [12]

I am wanting to do the CELTA course

But i was under the impression that you had a very successful school of your own! In which case you wouldn't need to do your CELTA?

Plus if you teaching "I am wanting to do the CETLA course" in your school..... CELTA will not save you!

Law / Copywriting rate for websites written in English in Poland? [5]

Well i also copywrite, but it's on a difference basis i work on the basis of 20zl for 150 words. each article is about a fixed topic and only minimal research is required, the main input is creativity and about 20-30mins.

If i was you i would also be looking for that amount of cash, but don't allow someone to uncut you :)

Law / Your experience as a foreigner running a small business in Poland [43]

if you want to change it in future you have to pay for the courts to change it

I went and added 4 new PKD codes and a grand total of nothing! They even send the amended zaświadczenie in the post, as i don't have time to pick it up next week!

Can you please advise what will be the costs of such accountant on per month basis?

I pay 90zl a month, he sorts out my business expenses, income tax and files what ever paperwork is needed.
Most importantly he speaks English!

Although one guy wanted 250zl a month!

Law / Your experience as a foreigner running a small business in Poland [43]

how difficult is it really to register and run your own company in this company

I agree with the above, very easy, in fact all offices involves were very helpful and even gave advice..... something I'm not so used to in PL :)

I even sorted my own ZUZ (I say I, but i mean my Polish missis) Although now my accountant sorts everything for me, great guy and worth the 90zl a month!

It's a funny thing because if you tick box of what your business is doing it costs nothing but if you want to change it in future you have to pay for the courts to change it.

I have this problem... i need to add a new code, but I'm heading out and seeing the cost tomorrow, hopefully its not expensive!

UK, Ireland / Cost of transferring items UK - Poland? [7]

but I can thoroughly recommend this guy

Me also, top bloke! Unfortunately he hasn't had chance to go the UK recently, I'm waiting for him to go and pick up, hopefully soon :)

Best thing is to get a Polish friend to give him a call... that is if you don't speak Polish :)

Recently i got myself a 22in monitor for my PC and it cost about 550zl so 120 pounds, you cant a good monitor for under 500 i don't think!

Good luck in Poznan is a beautiful place and the ex-pat's are fantastic including Delp :)

Real Estate / Polish system for flats/apartments. Owner have to pay a rent? [11]

In blocks of flats you normally need to pay "admin" fees, normally this includes some kind of utility as well, for example where i live, the admin fee includes water, waste and weekly communal cleaning. Where my in-laws live it includes heating, waste and communal areas are cleaned daily.

My landlord doesn't separate the costs and the "admin fee" is included in the rent i pay him one amount.... job done.

If you own your flat then you still need to pay administration fees for the above reasons.

Someone has to keep the areas clean and ultimately the building will need some kind of maintenance throughout its life.. the money has to come from somewhere! with big blocks they publish the income, whats being done, how much its going to cost etc on a yearly basis.

Off-Topic / Pay as you go - for an iphone? [3]

I have a 3G which i brought from the UK, i cracked it and use it on Play pay as you go.

Realistically i don't use it much for calling, but send a lot of SMS, download emails many times a day as well as the use of facebook...... It dosent cost much in data and i only use 30-50zl a month. The main cost is surfing the net which is a little more expensive but realistically not that expensive!

Play is a good carrier and they run a lot of promotions... for some reason for the last year ive had free SMS (not that i know how i got it!)

playmobile.pl/pl/play-karta/startery/index.html

There are other networks but personally i have no experience with them :)

Good luck!

Travel / Hard Candy - Krakow, Poland - reviews? [131]

No doubt there's some serious "back handing" going on with local councilors, its something that should be sorted...... but it probably wont :(
