Food / Cornish game hens in Poland? [13]

The meat is very tasty, much better than a chicken. You can roast them with stuffing too. There is a lot of bone picking involved and your fingers are the best utensils but it is well worthed and finger licking good!

USA, Canada / Can a Canadian Female Drive in Poland?? [31]

it is not as much fun as it is to drive in North America, when one can actually relax on the highway.

lol. I like the 'relaxing' part. It doesn't mean that you can doze off behind the wheel but the wide open expressways make it a pleasure to drive. I'm sure it will take some adjustment and getting used to the narrow streets and crazy drivers, but you're going to be fine.

Life / Examples of popular Polish music? [959]

You're right. That's the cabaret style just like in the Piwnica pod Baranami. The place produced many good artists and songs in the past. Hopefully, they still do.

USA, Canada / Can a Canadian Female Drive in Poland?? [31]

might want to practice your drinking and driving technique though just to be on the even playing field.

Thanks for the advice! :) I think the drinking and driving in Poland is exaggerated. Whenever I am in Poland 'my drivers' are afraid to even have a tiny sip of alcohol. I guess, it is the other drivers one should worry about.

that means I drive illegally since I still have not renewed the old driving licence and I carry the Canadian one in case I am stopped

Are you comfortable driving in Poland?

Driving in Poland? Be brave. Be very brave.
I consider myself as an excellent driver, but I have goose bumps when I'm driven in Poland. I would not dare to sit behind the wheel. It scares me. What if I decide to retire in Poland some day? Should I learn how to drive all over again?

Life / Stereotypes: Do Poles believe in fate? [18]

My sister told me to make sure that I take a good look at the Jupiter (I'm sure you guys noticed it in the skies during the last few weeks) and light a candle for a good luck...I did it, (what's the harm?), but I refuse to kill a black rooster at midnight and spit three time over my left shoulder... :)

Love / 20% of adult Poles are single and live with Mummy! [238]

Many young adults are moving back to mom and dad. Either lower wages or unemployment are forcing them to do that. Welcome to Europe in America. Soon we'll have three generations living in a small 900 sq feet apartments.

Life / Can you buy de-icer in Poland? [11]

what is it?

lol. You would not know anything about it in Texas girl, but it is a reality in Chicago. A couple of sprays on the frosty windows and off you go..no scraping. I love it.

News / Human Trafficking in and from Poland [80]

Eurola, everybody can't be a Type A personality professional women.

Hmm...why..Thank you.. but I was 18 once too. Poland is not exactly a 3rd world country where people live or lived in such poverty. There should not be any Polki so gullible.

News / Human Trafficking in and from Poland [80]

I thought it was about human trafficking not about student loans...lol.

I don't feel sorry for the women 'falling' for all the promises and the big money abroad in some exotic country. Really, they know what's ahead of them. I read/heard plenty of stories decades ago! Don't they hear/read about this stuff now!? So, it makes me think... they know what they are getting into.

Nobody deserves to have their passports taken away and forced to do what they don't want to do. The Johns should be punished for that, but the ones who want to satisfy the demand for services?...let them. Don't kid yourself, prostitution will never go away.

Travel / Visa to Poland (stay more than 90 days in Poland) [45]

No, she is officially not a Polish citizen.

It sounds like she walked off a bus or a boat while on a trip to the west and asked for asylum. In this case she has to deal with the consulate. She should still have a her old, expired passport, right? It's hard to give advice without details.

What the heck Aphrodisiac? Did you move back for good? Are sure you will not come back?Very, very interesting. I really like the posts about your first impressions! Keep it up.

All my best to you and may all the plans you've made realize in Poland.

Life / Bugs in Polish houses and apartments [78]

Silverfish disintegrate when you put water on them.

I don't see them too often, but I'll experiment next time I see one. Hmmm, I thought they can come in through the pipes too, especially in the bathroom.

Killing a spider is extremely bad luck

Just then it occurred to me, that there aren't any bugs around because yes...THE SPIDERS EAT THEM!!! OF COURSE!!

Thank you good people. I had the long legged one marching on my bathroom wall this morning but before I could get a glass to catch him and throw him outside - he hid behind the cabinet...

Leave those spiders alone! They're your friends. They're predators who will keep your place clean of vermin

I agree. Before I spray the corner the dweller is put in a jar (if I can catch him) and shaken outside. The spray is burning their feet, so the next one who wants to settle there just says 'aw,aw, aw' and moves away somewhere also.

It didn't happen this year yet, but last fall I had the biggest and most beautiful spider net built overnight between two hanging plants on the balcony. Gotta admire the nature at work. The huge spider sat in the middle of it. I did not have the heart to get the broom and destroy it so I left it and went to work. When I came back the spider was not there and the web was half destroyed with some insect caught in it. I regret not taking a picture.

Food / Any czernina fans on PF? [23]

Yes! yes! Now it rings the bell. It was in 'Pan Tadeusz' where Jacek Soplica got the soup ( just found it on Wiki).

The only way to get it is to know someone on a farm

Oh well, gotta look for a farm then but I wonder where the restaurants get it when they have it on the menu. Next time I see the soup on the menu I'll ask..

Though if you fancy a girl and her parents serve it to you - well, better look elsewhere!

Lol! I heard about it! It was the mother's way of saying 'my daughter is not for you, I don't approve'.

History / Prophesy - Poland from sea to sea. [57]

It means: no, they aren`t. It is not a topic of public interest.

I didn't think so and I hope not. People are not as gullible and superstitious as they were in the past. However, 'wróżki' or future tellers are still making a living in Chicago.. :)

History / Prophesy - Poland from sea to sea. [57]

Nope. Being nice is hard. Especially, when reading some posts.

Nah, dear iron...you're not jumping about and insulting people, you just make some readers jump. :) There is nothing wrong with expressing opinions, it however depends how it is done so readers don't jump.

Back to topic. In my childhood years in Poland i heard many times about 'krolowa Saba or Sybilla' prophecies. It was pretty interesting to read but since I was not a believer even as a kid, I don't remember much of the prophecies. I think there was a little, old and beat up book passed around with her predictions. I remember reading about a small country being the reason for the end of the world. Israel?

Are the predictions of Queen Sabah (Sibilla?) still 'alive' in Poland?

Life / Vasectomy in Poland is illegal? Why? [123]

Vasectomy illegal? That's what happens when the government and/or church are controlling their citizens. I agree that no 20 year old should do it, but illegal!? It is up to the individual and their doctor. What's next? Tattoos? After all you mutilate your body too...possible infection etc.
