Study / Information Needed: Skarbek University, Warsaw. [57]

sad but true

particularly at the moment

any course where the university have to lie about your part time job prospects in order to sucker you in is not worth studying at

History / Why are Jews pestering Poland for "proper" WW2 monetary restitution/reparations? [750]

There has to be some happy medium here. Look at Romania, the land ownership law is such a mess that people are frightened to buy land in case some 'heir' c

crawls out of the woodwork.

If 'heirs' are going to lay claim to property, they have an annoying habit of waiting until the property has been renovated or developed and then they pop up like a jack-in-the-box

It will be difficult to attract investors to any country where there are doubts over land ownership. It is not as though these guys have really contributed anything to Poland's economy post WWII. This is not directed against Jews, it is against anyone who buggers off from Poland. Then waits until the rundown property that they owned has been spruced up and then lays claim to it. The Poles ought to pass a law that people have until December 31st 2012 to lodge a claim or the unclaimed property will revert to the state

Food / Hawaiian Kona coffee to buy in Warsaw [12]

Anyone tried Kopi Luwak? Is there anywhere I can have just one cup? I don't want to spend a fortune on something I might not like. After all, it's processed by cats

iyou can get it in some thai or indonesian restaurants
the going rate is 20 PLN per cup

a smooth coffee with the consistency of chip shop gravy
if you like a thick cup of joe then look no further

braces himself for dozens of cat litter tray jokes....

give me strength....

UK, Ireland / Tale of a Polish Family on Isle of Man [43]

These dole stories are just that, stories.

not sure. but I will verify

you seem very sure of your facts

if I were to tell you that if you work for four years in Spain you are entitled to 1000 or it might even be 1200 euros dole for two years,

you might think that was bullshit too

as I mentioned, he does not bullsh*t people or at least has not done so far. I need to find out how close he was to the action as it were.

If the Romanian dudes were in his bar or a friend's bar. Which hairdresser it was, etc

revoke, I would not be surprised if you believe that they knowingly wanted to have a Downs baby as they might qualify for an additional couple of quid in benefits.

you are that twisted

@ Revoke

get used to it because freeloaders are starting to see Ireland as the real soft touch in Europe for benefits

a friend lives in Donegal and a BMW pulls up at his pub and four Romanian guys come in and start playing pool
they had each been given 20 euros each to integrate with the locals

another story

a woman from Nigeria had her hair done and then told the hairdresser that the dole were going to pay for it
in order to enable her to integrate into the community. the hairdresser did not believe her so called
the dole office. they told her to send the bill to their office and order her a taxi

now I was not there so I do not know if this is true or not but the guy who told me is not a bullsh*tter

look at the dole 195 euro per week as opposed to 63 quid or something in the UK. also in the UK
you are expected pretend to look for work. but not in Ireland oh no

you want to blame that on the banks?

UK, Ireland / Eastern European girls forced against their will in Britain for prostitution? [67]

yeah good point

before Poles could work legally in Europe Polish workers were often systematically preyed upon by other Poles

it is the same with all Central European nationalities, often workers are preyed upon by their countrymen

Polish recruitment companies are notorious for ripping off Polish workers who take overseas work

Life / Some Polish dogs have a very miserable life [46]

Maybe we eating salami made of horse or donkey are seen aas savages by the Chinese?

no they will eat just about anything

more or less. the idea of a lump of stilton cheese will completely freak your average Chinese person out

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

--retail in this country is an enigma. I lived here when burger king and dominoes were here the first time--they were busy but for some reason they shut down. (we don't eat this food, but an observation as a passerby) It blows my mind how some things will survive and some die-

Burger King pulled off the market strategically
they came back of course

McDonalds is so unbelievably successful that McDonalds are funding restaurants themselves instead of involving franchisees
any restaurants that are not making the grade are taken over by McD directly

Real Estate / Apartment in Poland is not up to standard; right to terminate the rental agreement? [78]

Lawyered up,seriously? All he needs is Kodeks Cywilny and guess what genius,he can sue the landlord for court fees too!

well done Chubs

another round of hearty laughter from my side

as for you knowing more about Poland than I ever will, when were you going to demonstrate this knowledge?
because so far I have not been impressed

perhaps you might want advise the OP what to do next

OP: I would be more inclined to listen to Wedle

Real Estate / Apartment in Poland is not up to standard; right to terminate the rental agreement? [78]

yet more advice from someone who left Poland as a kid and does not have a damned clue about the realities of living here

great advice, get lawyered up and wait a year for the case to come up in court facing legal costs far in excess of the value of the deposit

this coming from a guy who did not believe that there were money changers in Poland in the mid 90s and that the dollar zloty exchange rate varied depending on where you were selling your greenbacks

I salute you Sir,you are a constant source of amusement

Travel / What normally people do for New Year in Krakow? [10]

stand around in the market square and get hit in the face by fireworks thrown by drunken idiots

New Year celebrations in Polish cities should come with a mandatory set of safety goggles

History / Do polish people know that some of them fought a war against the United States? [60]

they had ONE fukkin colony and that without success...

not without trying though
they left it quite late before they started to go down the colonisation route

you cannot compare modern day political correctness and niceness with colonial expansion of
over 200 years ago Sasha

when the Europeans were carving up the rest of the world, slavery was still very much in practice
and children of four years of age were working in factories

I believe we are starting to drift off topic a tad

History / Do polish people know that some of them fought a war against the United States? [60]

and thats a lie.....commenwealth is the biggest organized theft ever made from anglo hands.

Yeah, but if the Brits had not seized huge areas of the world, then the French, Dutch, Spanish (somebody else would have)
the Germans were very busy colonising East Africa at the beginning of the last century

just imagine if Spain had colonised India? They would have tried to force the Indians to convert to Catholicism at gun point
like they did in South America

As a lot of Poles ended up in North America in the cities of the North, I would have thought that there would have been

more Poles fighting for the Union than for the South

Law / A Norway guy studying in Poland wants to bring his Pakistani wife to Poland. Visa for her? [23]

I am not sure Seanus
every single time I have advertised a job in Poland, I have been bombarded by Pakistanis and Indians looking for work

I am sure that there are an awful lot of Pakistanis, Indians and Nigerians who see Poland as a bit of a soft touch in getting entry into the EU

An IP check would help but it is giving the mods more work to do

how about banning all posts from non members?
you either join or you do not have the opportunity to post

History / History behind Poland and Turkey's Relationship [118]

Its quite idiotic to me to see Poland and Turkey in alliance

it is no more idiotic than Poland and Serbia in alliance

Poles have embraced Turkish culture to the point that you cannot walk 50 metres in any Polish city without coming across a kebab shop :-)
