History / Do Polish people in general dislike Russia or Germany more? [369]

Poland needs to stop serving the illuminati EU, UK and USA and come back to its true Slavic roots and embrace its Slavic brothers again.

says the man living in Melbourne
your knowledge of Poland comes from where exactly?

By illuminati, do you mean the Catholic church with its claws and fangs or is it a more mysterious New World order type of thing where people have secret handshakes?

a lot depends on which dates you are referring to
during partition, the majority of Polish people who I have spoken to disliked the Russians much more
the Russkies never invested in infrastructure in Poland and robbed the country blind

Poland B results in part from this lack of investment

there is one incident where I forget the details, however a town in Russian partitioned Poland had a narrow gauge railway
and the Russians felt that this was not right that Poles should have this and their Russian masters did not have it
so they shipped it to a Russian city

Law / Polish EU Drivers Licence - can I get one the easy way (by paying for it)? [185]

just a cotton picking minute here folks

just how did red lose his licence in the first place?

alcohol/car/small children/lolly pop lady/carnage/fervent imagination

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

Poland is the country where the largest percent of the population was from the nobility (approximately 10-15 percent of the Polish population was nobility 200 years ago)

with lots of tiny poxy little principalities to lord it over
''I am the Count. My land ranges from the trees 150 m over there to the river 50 m yonder, this is my wife the Countess and our dog.... Duke"

the only thing that the aristocracy could ever agree about
was the fact that there should never be a Polish royal family with a dynasty

so they did everything in their power to torpedo whichever poor bastard found himself in the unfortunate position of having
to rule the country and would much rather invite a foreigner to rule Poland rather than a Pole

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

all this slavic brotherhood stuff tickles me

if you ask your average Pole he would much rather be tied in with Western Europe than create stronger bonds with Lithuania and Ukraine

in fact lots of Poles that I have spoken to are very wary about Ukrainians
the Euro 2012 was the perfect opportunity to forge stronger ties with Ukraine

did anything significant happen?

I think not

News / Communist era 'newspeak' appeals the most to Poland PiS supporters (what a surprise) [89]

something like have the population of the DDR were informers and the other half worked for the Stasi or some other ridiculous statistic that I cannot be bothered to look up

I saw a TV program where if they suspected someone of being a spy they would follow them to a cafe, take a scent swab from the seat that had been sitting on and put it in a glass jar. that way they had your scent on record and could waft it under the nose of a tracker dog and then unleash the hounds on you at a later date to locate you

with a load of Soviet nutters to the East and a load of fanatical Huns to the West .... well you can draw your own conclusion

in this case - I'm sorry

on the contrary being accused of being Polish is one of the nicest things anyone has every said to me on PF :-)

the East Germans who were rather keen on beating Poland up.

the East Germans were such utter and complete toadies who had fallen for communism hook, line and sinker

in fact whilst the rest of Central Europe sort of played along with the military exercises, the East Germans used
to show the Russians up and were the finest troops in the Warsaw Pact

utterly fanatical they were

News / Communist era 'newspeak' appeals the most to Poland PiS supporters (what a surprise) [89]

my own limited knowledge of how Poland seems to function is that the Czechs generally speaking do not like the Poles too much. I used to work for a firm with an HQ in the Czech Republic and all my Czech co workers really disliked the Poles

why would Czech officers lie to support Jaruzelski? surely it would be better for them to keep quiet and discredit Poland?

this is going from memory and I am far too lazy to check but I remember that the year before, the Russians conducted a massive military exercise in Poland which

was a very unsubtle demonstration of what Poland might expect unless they were very careful

as for Yeltsin, he was a real typical Russian buffoon, he sang, he laughed, he cried, he danced, he drank
he was a real Russian and as a result, like all Russians loved scandal and intrigue

I can uderstand delaph who is foreigner and knows **** about Poland (clearly), but when I read such BS from a Pole, I start to boil.

I am not Polish. your stinging retort encouraged me to venture onto Wikipedia and there are very strong arguments for your case

my opinions about General Jazzy J come from conversations with Polish friends
furthermore, with the greatest of respect I would be very cautious about Russian press releases (look at Katyn)

''Historical evidence released under Russian President Boris Yeltsin has been brought to light indicating that the Soviet Union did not plan to invade Poland. In fact, Jaruzelski actually tried to persuade the Soviets to invade Poland in order to support martial law, only to be sternly turned down''

I would not trust Yeltsin as far as I could throw the obese drunken buffoon

''Additionally, there are numerous confirmations from Czech army officers of the time speaking of Operation Krkonoše, plan of armed invasion of Poland, because of which many units of the Czechoslovak People's Army were stationed on highest alert, ready for deployment within hours.[14]''

why would Czech army officers lie?
Russians love intrigue so Yeltsin making mischief would have been too tempting to resist

the truth probably lies somewhere in between

It would appear so, while the declaration of martial law is but a historical footage for most of you on this forum there are
some who remember it like it was yesterday, Pawian, Dariusz and perhaps few others. What can I say watching it live was memorable to say the least and made quite an impression on a kid of my age, what followed left an even greater impression

Sir, in that case, I wish to issue an apology to you
If your family and you were residing in Poland during Martial Law, I wish to retract my statement about bailing at the first sign of trouble

and apologise

My comment about General J still stands, poor bastard, he could have not done much else in the circumstances

Prove to me his intention were in good faith as you believe it to be so based on his background and deeds

I do not have to prove a damn thing - do your own research or better still talk to some Polish people (shock horror.. oh look, he is talking to the natives)

it is common sense, if he had let the Russians in it would have been carnage but you would have been OK.
He did not resign as the next person who took over would have let the Ruskies in and all hell would have been unleashed

I feel that you regret this somehow as you were rather hoping to bathe in a sort of vicarious martyr status safe in the knowledge that you would

have been safe.

I do not pretend to be his fan at all, however my opinion stands, he could not have done much else, whereas your family clearly buggered off at the first sign of trouble

who is the coward?

the guy with the weight of the world on his shoulders knowing he is damned no matter what he does or the family that p!ss off at the first sign that things are looking a bit

scary?

now hold on now a cotton pickin minute, you do not live in Poland however that seems to give you the God given right to condemn someone who was forced to choose the lesser of two evils when the intelligence that he was receiving was unlikely to be impartial

anyone can appear to be wise in hindsight

ironically, you could argue that he was a great patriot for not letting the Ruskies in

one thing is for sure, if the Russians had invaded you would not have been hurt

with regards to Jaruzelski I have always been of the belief that the poor bastard could not have done much else

it was either a case of declare martial law and result in a few thousand protestors getting a good kicking or
do nothing and have the Russians wade in and indulge in a spot of bayonet practice using the local populace as a target

It is all well and good now to sit in the comfort of one's armchair and criticise Jaruzelski however I am sure that
at the time, he genuinely believed that Poland was going to be invaded by the Russian army and had to choose
the lesser of two evils

Food / Kaszanka and haggis? [34]

here is a recipe for vegetarian haggis which I found on The Guardian

guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2012/jan/25/burns-night-supper-vegetarian-haggis

it looks half decent but more importantly it incorporates ingredients which are readily available in Poland

I am going to give it a bash and will let you know how I get on

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

You seem to misunderstand, nobody is saying that success is as simple as working hard

no it is you who seems to misunderstand

read Delph's post

stop using this thread as a ruse to cyber bully Milky

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

I have to say Milky, I did not have a problem with the American dream concept of applying yourself and getting an education as it was good in its day

however the mad rush to consume as many of the earth's resources as possible was a bit of a drawback

Nowadays it is going to destroy the planet in super quick time

I do a lot of work with Chinese companies and the entire country is like 1980s London under Thatcher but on acid
These are people who would gladly kill for a slice of the pie

intelligence takes precedence over any other attribute nowadays
if you are a dumb son of a b!tch you are likely to stay poor
it is not fair but life never was fair
application of one's talents is vital also

now a token statement on the Polish real estate market to hopefully prevent my post from getting binned

I was very taken by the film posted yesterday about Polish Americans and their demand to own their own home
the quote I liked (although not strictly true and poorly paraphrased) was 'own your home. if you owned your home no King, no Tsar, no one could take it away from you'

The psyche of the Poles and the East Germans is completely different. This rent-in-Germany mantra that everyone keeps trotting out might work for the East Germans but

it is a world apart for Polish people

Try being a doctor if you refuse to work hard

no one is talking about refusing to work hard
however Delph's argument seems to be that anyone can reach for the stars just by putting in some overtime

some people should realise their limitations

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

it's actually nothing to do with education, but everything to do with hard work

that is one of the most naiive statements I have ever read

unless you have the intelligence, connections, drive, ambition, fortune, ability (sometimes ruthlessness and willingness to break the rules) you are doomed to failure or
worse still doomed to work for someone else
and let's not forget qualifications - try being a doctor based on who you know and your willingness to work hard

the world is full of fools who are good, hard workers and who can dig holes but cannot do anything else

the biggest fool is the busy fool, especially in today's market place

work smart or go home

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Tell me how fat my dalliances have been

I am intrigued, how fat have they been?

my 2 cents (look everyone I am picking up this American lingo) is that you have some
beautiful Polish women who are natural and unaffected
whereas pretty girls in America appear to have a very high opinion of themselves and behave
as though they were God's own annointed

Work / What would be a good salary for an MBA graduate in Poland? [27]

good comments above

also take into consideration what your wife will be doing whilst you are at work

if she is lonely and miserable, you are not going to be particularly happy either
furthermore, if she is going out for coffee everyday in the local shopping mall and
making sporadic purchases, then your salary is going to be further eroded

please do not think I am trying to be smart at your expense however I have seen this
happen to other couples in Poland - there is no offence intended

Some of my American friends do online proof reading whilst their husbands are at work
it brings in some cash and gives them something to do

Radio Maria viewers,I say no more

oh the irony

your lack of faith must come as a great comfort to you in these troubling times

I do not want to get a bad rep for bullying you and I do not know why other posters
seem to despise you the way they do nevertheless your comment about Radio Maria 'viewers'
was one of the more sensible things you posted in your thread

FUZZYWICKETS: aaaah, OK. so laws should be written based on a popularity contest. you're hilarious

popular opinion holds great sway and it works in the US in a similar way

for example, someone has an idea that it would be nice to have a register of sex offenders
so they write a letter to a special man, called a congressman and it is debated in the house and if the other
politics men think it is a good idea too, it gets made into a law - horrendous generalisation of course

still not taken me up on that offer of online exorcism I see

@Ironside
we may have had our differences in the past but I wholeheartedly agree with you

I suspected Fuzzy feels too strongly about this topic for his own good hence I was enjoying
'witnessing' to him... it is clearly not working as thrice he has turned his back on my kind
request to repent

I am going to have to up the scales here and go for the world's first online exorcism here on Polish Forums
Fuzzy's soul is at stake
