Law / Obtaining Polish Citizenship from Poland-born Father [3]

@winogrona, I have no idea, but I've found this:

polishcitizenship.pl/law/

"The new act provides that the foreigners who in the past had Polish citizenship, but lost them before 1 January 1999, can apply for the restoration of Polish citizenship. It is vital that the acquisition of Polish citizenship shall happen on the day in which the decision on restoring Polish citizenship has become final. This means that the applicant's children shall also acquire citizenship, but only when they were minor on the day of its granting."

Maybe you should contact the Polish consulate in Chicago about this?

@RussianAntiPutin, I hope you'll get well soon!
Keep us updated, if you can :)

I think that's a little potentially dangerous

Yes, it is. Don't give anyone on this forum your phone number or personal information. Especially to johnny_reb. Him and his buddies stalked people from this forum and some of their family members in real life to a disturbing extent.

Wehnn you're vomiting blood

Vomiting blood is considered a medical emergency. You probably should go to a hospital... What is going on?

Why are people implying I'm a troll?

I don't. I must admit though that I had moments when I thought that your English is too good for a 16-year-old :)) How long have you been studying it, if you don't mind saying?

Worth remembering though that sometimes this doesn't win friends.

It depends. I prefer honest people. Besides, I'm not here to win friends.

Are they?

Yes, some people do. Including you.

@jon357, RussianAntiPutin (no matter whether she is who she claims she is) isn't forcing you to be buddies with Strzelec35. It's been going on for quite some time already, it's just I haven't been writing in public about how it bothers me.

@RussianAntiPutin, yes, I've noticed :)

He's nice to me.

Let us see how long it will last :)) (long, hopefully)

@jon357, I'm using my right to free speech to state that I find your attitude towards Strzelec35 disturbing.

You don't get to choose who people are or aren't hostile to.

I didn't claim that I do.

What's wrong with Johnny Reb?

He's a sociopath. One of the biggest bullies and liars on this forum... He and his buddies chased out quite a few people from PolishForums. Including a nice British lady, a former moderator, who was genuinely interested in Poland, unlike johnny_reb...

But who knows, maybe he's going to be nice to you :)

@jon357, Strzelec35 has expressed really f*cked up views many times on this forum and you shrug them off too. Makes me wonder whether you share those views.

there are posters here expressing openly fascist views that people just shrug off.

I don't shrug them off. Neither do I shrug off Strzelec35's views. Unlike you.

He's a nice guy.

No, he isn't. He's a sociopath.

But hey, you find it disturbing that I'm not hostile to somebody.

Yes, I find it disturbing that you're so OK with Strzelec35. I've also made clear what I think of johnny_reb, so I'm not the one who's a hypocrite here. You are.

@jon357, you are choosing to support Strzelec35. On regular basis.

is far more perverted and deranged than anything in this thread

It doesn't change the fact that Strzelec35's comments are perverted, off topic and the girl is clearly bothered by them. Any normal human being would be able to realise that.

PM me if you'd like a clue.

I don't care, to be honest. It's not only about RussianAntiPutin. You being so friendly with Strzelec35 has been disturbing for me for quite some time already.

@jon357, it's sad and disappointing that apparently you're choosing a lying, prejudiced, misogynist, hateful peado pervert, who's also a convict, over a new PF member who didn't harm anyone.

The thread is in the off topic section already.

So? It doesn't mean that people can trash off-topic threads at will, especially with such perverted, deranged spam comments, like in case of Strzelec35.

A weird thread too.

By PF standards? lol Not really. There have been threads like this before.

@RussianAntiPutin, I knew about Niżyński, but not about the rest... Thanks for the information, it's nice and interesting to know that Poles had some contribution to ballet! :)

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [338]

@jon357, maybe it isn't organised, but the end result is the same - juries' voting results are often ridiculously predictable lol This is why people complain that Eurovision is political...

This time, it was a proven cartel which made a difference.

I wonder how this come about... Did they make some kind of secret meetings? ;D In Poland's case I could understand Georgia and Romania, but why San Marino, Azerbaijan and Montenegro of all countries? lol

the fact remains Ukrainan jury didn't give Poland even a one point. That could be an indication of some issues there.

Maybe they were afraid that they'll get disqualified too?

@jon357, yeah, but why? Did they vote for each other also in the finale?
Btw, I guess Greece and Cyprus should get their votes annulled too every year when they're competing lol I won't hold my breath though...

Pro-Russian hackers attempted to disrupt voting for Eurovision, but Italian police foiled that hacking attempt:

@jon357, wow, I think it's the first time that a jury from Poland did something like this... TVPiS, eh? Figures...
They've shown only the semi-finals 2 votes though... What was wrong with the votes from the finale?

Love / Do you think these renowned Poles are hot? [150]

Paulina can you for once be objective

I'm a Gemini, I always strive for objectiveness :)) Hotness is subjective though and Dzierżyński isn't my type :) From an objective point of view - he's fairly good looking and probably he could be considered handsome or "hot" for someone who's into an intelectual dandy type.

super hot

;D

Iron Felix to others.

To whom? To you?
You seem to have some kind of man-crush on him lol

Plus, why is he Bloody to Poles if he could not even reach them?

Because we're normal people?

No idea what you're on about. He has the eyes of an angel, of a saint.

O_O

Dzierżyński and Piłsudski were distant cousins, btw.

because it's the 'cool thing' to do.

Didn't it cross your mind that people aren't doing it because it's "cool", but simply want to show their support because they care? Sure it would be great if they did more than this (and maybe many do), but I don't understand why you have such a problem with people demonstrating their support for Ukraine. Ukrainians themselves appreciate it. So, why does it bother you so much?

I am! Very serious vocational ballet student at Vaganova Academy!

Cool! :) Congrats! 👏

Did I put that in my information on my profile?

Yes, this info is on your forum profile :):

call them crooks, "insult" them by calling them Jews

I've read one theory concerning this, but I'm afraid we'll have to continue this in the thread to which off topic posts are moved - I answered it in that thread (Random Chat Poland):

If it was for sale, how much do you think he would be ready to pay for it? 50 cents?

I don't know and since he lives in a war-torn country, I'm not going to bother him with such idiotic questions.

How much money are you sending to Russia?

History / Ski- Suffix of names [12]

The suffix -ski is a continuation of Proto-Slavic -ьskь-jь. It defined belonging and was also used for creation of adjectives:

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/-ski_(formant)

As for surnames, at first it was used to create surnames of Polish nobility in the 13th century - surnames were made up of a city/town/village name which belonged to a particular noble family and the suffix -ski was added at the end:

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/-ski_(nazwisko)

For example:

City: Tarnów = surname: Tarnowski
City: Zamość = surname: Zamojski

Later surnames with the suffix -ski became more common. For example, one of the most common surnames in Poland is Kowalski. It probably denotes someone's profession since "kowal" means "a smith" (blacksmith) in Polish. It's an equivalent of the English surname "Smith".

And does it really sound different in Polish names than in Russian?

I guess it does since from what I can see in Russian a long "y" ("й") is added at the end:

Russian: Дзержинский
Polish: Dzierżyński

In Polish there's only the short "i" ("и") at the end, without the long "j" ("й").

Thank you, @Paulina. You're very kind 😊.

You're welcome!
Btw, you are a ballet student? I like ballet! 🤗

'Friend' is a lovely word, I wasn't expecting such niceness from Poles.

Bobko is a Russian living in New York, as far as I understand. There aren't that many Poles on this forum, I'm afraid...

Poland and Russia aren't exactly friendly (understatement of the year).

True, but it doesn't mean that ordinary Russians and Poles can't be friends :)

the power of music, you know?

Let us hope that music has some power and not only in the Serbian case... :)
