Language / Busha and JaJa [140]

Busia is a shortened form of the Polish word Babusia and a term of endearment, and we pronounced it 'Boo-sha'(as in the Holloween English word 'booh'=to scare)...i am ancestrally from the Toledo, Ohio (USA) Polish diaspora and this is what i was taught.

These terms were taught us by those very Grandparents... and we loved them dearly. My granchildren use this term with me, just between us, now ;), they say 'Grandma' in public.

We have been told we are from southwest Warsaw

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

boletus Thankyou also boletus ;) maybe not the best meanings et all, but i have been a fool in my time, as most of us can be ;) and it might also explain why JaJa disliked the spelling ;)

i might add i have always felt the warrior in my blood and as a Vet in America i have traveled and lived in a variety of places ....though i can't call myself a thief, for lack of reason to....the rest of it is a fairly good meaning for a peasant.

Hope you'll not be offended if i explain to my brother we might rather have been peasants with purpose, he has more ego than i do... ;)

Polonius3
Thankyou Polonius, i also have found only one woman with the name, in Florida. :) gracious of you to respond to me at all.

darling, when was the last time you were in Poland? Poles, particularly those that are poor that can only afford crap food and those that are wealthy that eat too much food- fat fat fat..

It has been years....many years past....
yes bad food and sodas and alcohal do not help with weight....
;) i prefer to applaud the DNA along with proper eating habits (which i learned at the knees of those ancesters). ;)

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Ok ;) well here you get my ego ;) yes we are , great complextions - ballanced body forms-no matter where we live in the world we are sure and stable with our feminity, we are strong and independant...nothing sappy about us, no one HAS to care for us... :0 most people just adore us because we are humanistic... ;) shall i go on.. ;)

Even at 60 i get comments..we age well and take care of ourselves(in my case for the love of my grandchildren, who wants a dowdy gramma?) and you should see my daughters!!!

;) LOL!!!

History / Poland: Her heroes and her traitors [221]

was also buddies with Thomas Jefferson who became the 3rd president of the U.S.

;) Yes American history.. and Pulaski reigns high on our list of patriots also, with several towns and cities named after him. ;)

He stayed loyal to Poland.
And what's a problem with betraying traitors? I would do the same.

Agreed

Take a look calmly isn't it depending on position of view ? I'm pretty sure that the opinions about traitors and heroes would be completelly different if USSR still exists and if the position of the USA is weaker :)

Between the freedom of America and the Gulags of Russia? Theres a choice here? regardless of 'strength" i'm going with freedom

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Worrying about a baby? How ironic. When men will be able to deliver babies, then they will decide what women should do with their asses.

agreed! When men can give birth they can tell us what to do, some of us would not choose this action, but who am i to tell someone their choice? I did not wake up as God this morning and neither did any of these men.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

General statement: Again, contraception before abortion!

This i whole heartedly agree with!
No i've never been faced with this choice, two freinds have..they made their choice (husband and wife) based on knowledge of the sever handicaps the child was going to have, both of which included incomplete brain developement...if it had just been physical developement i think both would have chosen to keep the child...

but think of the finacial strain of a severly developmental challenged child, and the fact that most insurrance companies here in the US would drop the child at birth because of a pre-existing condition!

Also adoption is not what folks claim it to be ...there are millions of adoptable children in the world, which means allot of folks won't do this act of kindness.

Our family , while in Poland had several children that were raised within our family group because they were orphaned...
so i think maybe Poland has a good cultural tendency not to abandon it's children...but it is not a common cultural trait.
When you relegate abortion you should also relegate the future of the child?
Children of rape if exposed to the purpetrator are generally exposed to that crime themselves...where is the morality in that?
Don't believe me, volunteer to be a rape crisis counselor, some very ugly truths will present themselves to you.
If you don't want a child is it better to bring them into a world where no one else wants them either?
how many of us have adopted one of these forlorn children? When we 'walk the talk' maybe there can be positive change.
I did not know i was pregnant till the second trimester both times..Doc's said i was extrememly healthy and that i was how it was supposed to be...

By the time i saw an ultrasound there were legs, arms and facial distinctions.
Would i have chosen to abort if something was wrong? it depends..i know the people who have lost children this way have to live with their decission for the rest of their lives, and i still visit the graves of the two children my freinds lost...

Life doesn't begin at conception, it takes a few days for that combination to create 'life'
Still i will never take the choice away from anyone, if you so don't want that child that you are willing to abort....what life would that child have if you wanted it that little?
