Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

Don't you think this model looks Polish?

Not really. I'm not saying that she is not Polish. But for me she has more feautres of a French girl than Polish,

She has a slight dimpled, uneven chin that is common in Poles. You can still have that chin defect like me and be beautiful!

This is true! ( yes, I did look at your profile pictures :D )

But to explain: For me the combination of dark hair and light coloured eyes, the thicker eye brows ( and side-burns :O ) define French women - the type you would see in a L'oreal advert.

She doesn't really have the 'slavic' cheek bones that one associates with Polish women. She may be American, but for me probably French or maybe Swiss... or maybe Flemish.

But that's only my amatuer opinion...

To be honest I have never noticed the chin 'feature' in Polish women, certainly not in any of my ex's. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, lol:) Please don't consider it a 'defect', it's not unattractive.

But again, I really dont think that she's Polish. She's a little too pale in skin tone, and for me the whole face shape is too narrow. Ah, having said that she is a model which might explain things....

Definately not Romanian. These days most people have a fairly varied gene pool, she may well be Croatian or even Slovenian. But trust me, definately not Romanian. Face is wrong shape, and her eyes would probably be a dark brown....

Take a chill pill dude! It's just people's opinions. I was just responding to the question:

Don't you think this model looks Polish?

To which I replied no. And that she looks more French. Doesn't make me a nazi. Relax buddy, it's all good.

The topic of the thread is: The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans. Which is why we're giving these critiques.
Oh and

Normandy (Viking),

Vikings came from Scandinavia. Normans came from Northern France. Just in case you were confused:P

She may be American

I knew it! lol. Yeah its hard with American's. As apart from native-Americans (or mexicans as I like to call them :O) the caucasians are all Europeans. A very varied mix of Europeans...

The French population being the result of a huge melting pot from the very beginning

Quite agree. Same as us British. My French roots date back to about 1675. I still look French! I have the same features as the lady I was describing as being French! My Polish roots date back to 1875, but my great-grandfather was blond haired and blue eyed, and bears no resemblance to me. You know nothing about me. Stop insulting me because I pointed out the difference between a Viking and a Norman, Grow up! Stop trolling me and get a life!

I apologise unreservedly for my bad temper as of late. I know I have crossed the line quite a few times now.

But to clarify what I said about the lady looking French

for me she has more feautres of a French girl than Polish

it is because in my honest opinion she does. Maybe it is something to do with being an Arsenal fan and seeing a lot of French players come and go the vast majority of whom have dark hair and a certain look about them. Personally, I look a little bit like Robert Pires and Samir Nasri both of whom are French. I guess it's all in my genes:)

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

Personally I believe that there should be made a new language that could serve for communication purposes on the global scale

There once was a great idea to make a new language it was called Esperanto

Yes, it failed miserably. Only Kryten from the Red Dwarf series ever became fluent......

English is fastly becoming recognised as the Lingua-Franca of the world. That's a fact! However, I'm not saying that it should be the world language or has some special right to be. Although English is only the third most commonly spoke first langue in the world, (behind Mandarin Chinese and Spanish), it does seem to be the second language of choice for many people. Just for example; how many South-Americans and Chinese are learning English as a second language? A lot! Now compare that figure with the number of people from the countries where English is the mother tongue are learning either Spanish or Mandarin. Certainly Spanish is popular, but falls well short of English. It's demand driven. Just some food for thought....

Pani Polka, I hope that don't consider any of my posts as negative remarks about yourself. That was never my intention. I apologise if you found them offensive in any way.

History / Battle of Vienna - history movie about Poland / Commemoration [36]

PS. The reviewer`s rating: 0/10 :):):):)

Well it won't be the first time a film has been slated. Let's watch the film first and then make our comments after. I'm certainly not expecting it to be a patch on films like Excalibur, Zulu or Waterloo. Everyone has different tastes in films, which is a good thing:) For example, I PMPL everytime I see something like Job or Dzien Swira, but I except that many people just wouldn't 'get it'. As long as I enjoy it, that's what counts:)

Life / The "I am never wrong" phenom - is it the Polish thing? [63]

so I am not wrong.

I would even go so far as to say that: "You are never wrong..."

Sorry, I do apologise. How rude of me... I have noticed this here a bit, but it's the same in the UK. I think it's just some peoples personalities, not sure that it's actually related to nationality or culture.

Although, of course, I could be wrong...

I have noticed that opening the door for people etc, is rarely rewarded with a "Thank you" in Poland... it's a little bit rude. As for people not making room for you on the pavement InWroclaw, try doing Richard Ashcroft's walk from the Verve's - Bittersweet Symphony. Yeah, you might knock a few babcias down but next time they'll move for you.... "no, i co k..... !?! " ;)

Language / Polish in 4 Weeks CD-ROM [46]

Can you not explain the situation to the vendor and have a copy sent? I bought mine from amazon.co.uk many years ago. I still use the book, but I dunno where the cd is. I never needed to use it...

If I find it I'll burn you a copy, but it's probably in a box back in England:(

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

If the foetus is 'unborn', it isn't a child.

Quite true. abortion is always going to be a very contentious issue. Pro-life campaigners need to realise and respect that women can have many different reasons for terminating an unwanted pregnancy.

Having an abortion is not a pleasant experience either. It's not like taking a 'morning-after pill'. It's a unpleasant process and can leave the woman with a lot of feelings of guilt. Complications can lead to infertility. Also, she has to live with the stigma that is attached to it. Abortion is not a 'soft option' and is not a decision to be taken likely. However, IMO, it should be a woman's right to choose.

Are you or are you not alive when asleep

Yes, of course. Brain activity is very high during REM sleep. The issue is about a woman's right to choose. If you don't like the idea of abortion, then nobody is forcing you to have one. If another woman wants an abortion you shouldn't force her not to have one. Being a woman you should be able to understand this very simple concept. It's called 'choice'.

Life / The "I am never wrong" phenom - is it the Polish thing? [63]

I'm sure there are many Poles living in England who would say the same thing about 'us'. Not sure if they moan about it on forums though.

I know an awful lot of Brits who are exactly the same though, so by no means is this trait exclusive to Poles!!

Think you've hit the nail on the head there.
It's easy to bash other people (especially foreigners) but sometimes we need to look at ourselves. Are we really so perfect? I know that I'm not. I don't expect others to be either...

You should see me when im hungry, you wouldnt like me when im hungry. Those low blood sugar levels are real mood killers.

Does hunger make you cranky for at least a week, if not two...? :D

If men could get pregnant, I can imagine some of them bragging about how many abortions they had.

We men aren't like that at all... I like abortons, but I couldn't eat a whole one.... :D
Sorry, I'm just trying to lighten the mood;)

Nope. I'm strictly butter-side up. There are some nice girls though:D.
Seriously, the men aren't that bad. Certainly not the worst gene pool in the world by any means.

Quite a lot of English men look like Mr Bean

What's wrong with Mr Bean?

95% of men. I have a thing for Poles. I know, not normal. But hey. Why fight it.

Yes, I hear you. But for me it's the ladies. It's really hard just walking into town and back...
F... my life!

And I like our Rynek too. And as my town needs as many tourists as possible, bring them here.

Well, I'm assuming there's a bar in your Rynek, yes? If so, I could be tempted to visit:D
So what attractions are there in Przemysl?

Try living in Poland for a while, they have just as many Mr Beans as we do.

Seriously, what's wrong with Mr Bean?

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Abortions remain a highly contentious issue in many countries. People will argue over this issue for a very long time to come.
So, what should Poland do?
Leave the decision between the mothers and the doctors. It's no business of the state or the church (or anybody else) to tell any women that they can't have an abortion.

It's really that simple.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

Yeah, righ! LOL :D I bet THAT would double the number of underground abortions. Either that or attempts at trying to force a miscarriage.
Banning things isn't the solution. Americans will know that from when they tried to ban alcohol - Prohibition was a great success!
Just leave it to the mothers and the doctors to decide because quite frankly, it's nobody elses business!

how could you actually make that comparison

Easily. Banning things isn't the answer.

Thanks for the laugh.

You're very welcome;)
