Genealogy / "Choroszucha" - Jewish family name? [19]

Ok, so my mother recently got this family tree thing from a relative of hers in Poland, and it only tracks back to the family name "Choroszucha" from around the mid 1800's. My mother and her parents + grandparents are all from the town of Zabłudów (Białystok County, Podlaskie Voivodeship). Now, from what I've seen around the net so far, i'm convinced that this last name is jewish, but my mom claims her family line is entirely Polish, ethnically.

Any professional historians out there reading this?? Please, do cure this overwhelming curiosity of mine.

PLEASE! dzzzziiięęęękkkkiiiiii :D

History / What are Poland's pagan roots? [62]

DOWN WITH CHRISTIANITY!!!!!!!

bring back our beloved Slavic Deities!!!!! <3

Bailobog - The white God of the waxing year; Guardian of the summer. Bailobog would defeat his brother in battle every Koliada to take his rightful place as the ruler of the waxing year. At Kupalo, Czarnobog would defeat Bailobog in battle to assume his position of ruler of the waning half of the year. Bailobog is said only to appear by day to assist travelers to find their way out of dark forests or reapers in the fields.

Life / If I'm agnostic, deist, atheist - can I say that to Polish people in Poland? [72]

I wonder how they act, because I heard about they dont like not believers.

I'm pagan/wiccan, and all of my close polish friends, most who have very religious catholic families, are totally fine with me. :)

My future children will also be raised as pagans, and will be named after ancient Slavic deities.

Sonny, ancient Slavs wouldn't call their children names of their deities out of respect for said deities. Go and play you ignorant goon !

what about catholics who use names like Jésus and Zeus, or even Maria for that matter...?

anyway..

first son's name will, of course, be Swietowit (after Świętowit), first daughter Ziwia (after Żiwia), 2nd son will be Piorun, 2nd daughter Marzanna...

I have a looooong detailed list of the names, in the order I will be using them lol... I plan on having many, many kids. >:D .. I will even throw in the name Jaga (after my favourite, Baba Jaga) ^__^... of course, they will all have English or Polish middle names, which they can use during their school times, and amongst friends and such.

History / What proportion of the Polish population collaborated with the Nazis? [125]

Looks like you're quite proud of your family history. Just curious, how many innocent people do you think they murdered?

I don't think anyone in my family would know considering that they never came back from the war. Oddly enough, I do believe they were jews as well. lol

my grandma kept some small old photographs of them in their SS uniforms, which she gave to my dad before she passed. :(

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [417]

This is much different from the U.S.A. where Catholicism is still quite big, but there is large proportion of protestants as well.

with the recent influx of hispanics, who are mostly roman catholics and VERY religious, it is only going to grow larger in the years to come. :)

Genealogy / My ancestors from Poland were ethnic Jews [10]

you most likely do.

I never knew about my dad's jewish family (that is, his grandparents and their ancestors) until my mom told me around 5 years ago, or that his grandmother was also a 'wiedźma'. :)

Language / How should "Polish" be written? Maybe Polski? [27]

no Englishman will pronounce it correctly. too much sz and cz together

and no Pole can pronounce their 'th' and 'ph' sounds, or even the english 'R' correctly... myself included.

the word 'reward' is a nightmare for me to pronounce, and i've been learning/speaking english for 20 years now. lol :D
