My Polish husband refers to our daughter as "moya myszka," and in english my pet name is baby or sunshine. Interesting, that he doesn't have a polish nick name for me? He believes that this is the most endearing. I'm curious- he seems to and I've seen his family use his name in different ways and end his name with (tius), women's names seem to end in "ao". My name is unique and it doesn't translate in Polish. This is also, interesting because in US, your name is your name-no translation. For name day-my children have requested a polish calendar which translates their name. I like the fact, that this website shows this at top of page. It was funny last night my son got a new hat (it looks like a hunting,long straps around ears,from his dad) and my husband was calling him Andruszka. So, I have no polish pet name and my name doesn't translate in Polish? Whatever, one calls you close to you is special.

It's unfathomable this only happened two decades ago. My husband, lived in this repressive Poland. Tanks at corners, curfews, secretly listening to news, getting rations before school, grass being painted green when dignitaries were coming, no freedom of speech. Good luck Dutch with your research. I'm interested about learning more. Our friends returned from the Ukraine with two twin girls, age 12. Their background and reasons for being in an orphanage would break your heart. They didn't speak the language and every step was encountered with bribes. The grandfather let them go for $200? The orphanage was atrocious. Their very lucky to be safe and be provided with so much love. My husband speaks Russian and they have relayed what has happened to them. The girls are so beautiful. It makes you wonder about all the other children. I know I couldn't leave without adopting a child. Everyone can make a difference. Wildrover has proven that! Keep PF updated. It's not well known what the situation is in Poland.

I would have to agree with previous posts about vanity. Always need to look a certain way and other Poles take note. Polish men (sorry for the generalization), expect putting yourself together and looking good for them.

Schools. Stong opinion that Polish Schools are far more academic and other systems don't have the same discipline and acceleration.
