USA, Canada / Are there any Polish people in Florida? [311]

I dont know man, there's a lot of crazy bastards in Florida.

Like Franek said. Miami is bad. But most of the rest of Florida is safe.. I can go out any time after dark without getting mugged.

Is there crime in Florida?? Yes, but no where near as it is in the large cities up north.

Crazies? Yes a few.. But you tell me that there is anyplace in America free from crazies. Europe has its share too.

I might agree if it would be "Murzynek Sambo"

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Sasha, I hope my post did not come across as overly aggressive, I apologize if you took it that way.

No need to apologize to anyone. I agree in most of what you said. The only thing that Obama has going for him is his Messiah image. For some reason people are fascinated with him.. But his polls are falling like a rock. People are seeing him for what he is. A CHALATIN

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Yes they do but thats because they're backwater barbarians rolling in their own shit and moaning to Allah rather than some great evil terrorist organization, if we just kept out of Pakistan and Afganistan and let them rot in their own crap they'd leave us alone as well.

Some time you amaze me. Finally you came up with a great solution. Even I agree with you.
Why but why are western nations fighting in Afghanistan. Why cant their own people fight their own war instead of growing poppies We all should pull out. Immidiately

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [405]

Current Americans have a reputation of stupid and are stupid as a result of a long and drawn out process which i believe is a deliberate one, just compare yourselves with Americans from the civil war era, the intellectual gap is epic, someone actually made an effort to turn you into a nation of morons.

We Americans were so stupid, that Poland allowed us to put in a missle defence system that might not even work to prevent a buffer zone between Russia and America in case of a ground war.

Food / Polish head cheese [46]

Head Cheese.... Salceson.....Zimne nogi.....Jellied pigs feet.. All the same. In America we call it Salceson in Polish. The difference from Zimne Nogi is that it is encased in a casing much like Bologna. Sold in deli counters as Head cheese.

As a kid I watched mu Mom make it. She cleaned fresh pigs feet a couple of times.. She then boiled them in pickling spices until the meat got soft.. She then pulled the meat apart discarding the bones and put the meat back into the broth. It was then placed in a bowl and refrigerated until set. The bowl was then turned upside down and OOOOLA a perfectly formed mold of Zimne Nogi

Food / Wax Bean Soup Recipes [29]

Here is the way that we still make. It is nothing more than white borscht with vegetables added. As a kid I remember my Grandmother along with other Polish Immigrants going to farms during the depression to pick beans. At the end of the day they brought beans back. This is really Peasant food.

Recipe
Two quarts of water ( Depending on how much you want to make)
Pork chops or spare ribs or fresh sausage. Salt pepper
Onion, celery potato's and fresh beans Optional Parsley Add potatoes later
Bring to a boil and then simmer for about an hour??? Add potatos about a half hour before completion.
Mix a cup of sour cream 1/2 cup of milk, and flour to thicken.
(Zapraska) Pour into soup, Stir, add vinagar to taste. Soup will be white

Food / Schmaltz.. is it still used in Poland [21]

SCHMALTZ; Rendered chicken fat. As a kid growing up in America during the great depression, my Mom fed us schmaltz smeared on bread when we could not afford butter. We also used bacon fat the same way. It is still used by old Jewish families here.

My Mom told me that that was a staple in Poland in the early years. I had no complaint.. On occasion I still use it on bread.

My question is. Is this practise still used in rural Poland today?

Food / Bologna & onions in Poland? [44]

One of the cheapest and possibly nastiest processed meats out there

Lol! For your information. Spam was created during WW2.. Canned, the shelf life was great. America fought WW2 with spam. We had it every day.The British would give their right arm for a can of spam, after existing on Bully Beef. The Germans aquired a taste for it too. Many freed Slavic prisoners were gratefull too. I still eat spam today.. I like it.

Life / Polish Wedding March & Funny Hat [41]

Hi Angel.
I remember the things that you requested very well. I think that this was a Polish American thing. i talked to relatives in Poland and they had no knowledge of this tradition.

Removing the Bridal veil was done by a matron. This was to signify that the Bride was about to lose Her womanhood.. (Oczepiny)

The hat was to wish them a long and happy marriage.

The necklace with baby dools was a wish for the couple to bear a lot of healthy children

youtube.com/watch?v=fDTfWZgUvmk

The Bridal dance, Money dance. Apron dance all the same thing.

The guest would line up and put money into an apron held by a Matron.
, for a chance to dance with the bride. The song that was played was (Pani Mloda)
.
The dance might last but a couple of steps before anothe person would cut in.. This dance could last for a long time as long as people lined up.. If the bride got tired a Bridesmaid was dance for her. As the line slowed the husband would throw in his wallet and carry his bride off in his arms.

At my wedding in 1947 when money was tight. We collected over $400. At that time we could buy a home for $ 5000.00.

GOOD LUCK ON YOU MARRIAGE

Daj trochu pieniedziy na tace
Na jej welon slubny

Niech cala rodzina pomorze
Niech starosta pomoze

Pani Mloda bedzie bardziej szczesliwa
Gdy pan mlody zatanczy z nia

Nasza pani mloda jest pienkna
Ale czy ona wie jak pracowac

Ojciec tanczy z panna mloda
On jest taki dawny ze swojego mala dziewczynka

Teraz jest koleg na mame
Niedlugo beedzie miala swego wlasna rodzine

Bes tym jak ostatni gosc

Life / Polish Wedding March & Funny Hat [41]

Sabrina;
Dont allow the above posters to discourage you. They are young people who grew up long after your Grandparents fled Poland due to Religious and Political oppression.. They know very little about your Granparents generation. I am old enough to remember the stories told me.. They were very poor and hungry from small villages. They immigrated to America and brought a lot of their traditions with them. Some of the old traditions were improved and became Polish American.

You go ahead and add some of the old folks memories in your wedding.. they would be proud of you.

That is so unfair.

OUCH!

long as you don't call these traditions "Polish", everything is fine. I would say they are 100% Polish American.

TOUCHY, TOUCHY ! LOL.

Try this one for size. From what I see, I would choose Polish AMERICAN renditions to the Polish versions

Work / Black English Teacher going to Wroclaw [247]

Why teach in Poland, when the inner city residents speak ebonics. It seems to me that you could better serve your own people in America. Generation after generation kids from the ghetto still cant speak proper English.

Yet they claim to be Polish. Riiight.

Most of the Poles kept the original name.. But the stupid Americans had trouble pronouncing the names. I for one maintained my name but when I run into trouble with people that cant pronounce it, I drop one letter C, that makes it easier for them . I go from Krawczyk to Krawzyk. They have trouble with the CZYK thingy.

USA, Canada / Poles and Americans, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [190]

Darn few kids of the present generation could care less about Poland or any other European country. The days of European immigrants is over. Modern America suks. I would be willing to bet that half of them dont even know where Poland is. America today is the land of MTV, HIP HOP, DRUGS, DRIVE BY SHOOTINGS, CROOKED POLITICIANS, and FAT PEOPLE,and ILLEGAL ALIENS.

USA, Canada / Poles and Americans, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [190]

Whatever you build on destruction will collapse on its damaged foundations. What goes up, must come down, and gravity does the rest. ;)

No truer words were ever spoken. At the turn of the century, America was a Nation on the rise.
America was a nation of immigrants.. Most came from Europe. It was a real melting pot. People from all nationalities lived in harmony.. Almost every one was from the poor working class. Compared to what they left behind in Europe, America was the promised land.

People gathered in enclaves of their own nationalities.. We the First generation Poles had our own Polissh Catholic Parochial schools.. The same went for other nationalities. There were close ties to the Families left behind in Poland.. American Poles sent packages and money back to those that could not make it to come to America.

America was involved in two World Wars.. After WW2 Americans prospered.. By now the 2nd generation of baby boomers arrived on the scene. With their new found wealth. they started to move out of the cities and into the suburbs.. With the new wealth , kids started to go to college ond a lot under the GI bill of rights.

This was the decline of association with Poland.. The old people died off. The Polish speaking households disappeared.. Along with the Polish language. This was the begining of the new breed of so called Polish Americans.

By 1960 along with globalization a new breed of Immigrant arrived on our shores.. This was the begining of Americas decline

How do I know this? I lived thru this experience. My kids and Grand kids no longer recognize anything other than America.

But again, not all poles are retards and/or religious fanatics.

I myself lay no claim to fame. But it takes all kind of people to make a world. It's true, America has a lot of idiots, but in turn we also have a lot of brilliant people. I tend to believe that most of Europeans are better educated than Americans. I admire how most Europeans speak a multitude of languages. But this might be to the fact that you all live in such close proximity to each other.. Whereas in America, we are seperated by two oceans.

As far as the original Polish immigrants go. Yes it's true.. They were poor uneducated people, a lot of them were Peasants. They were no more religious than present day Poles.

Genealogy / Americans of Polish descent. How many of us are on Polish forums? [216]

I have to get in on this. My parents came over to America in the early 1900s. Dad got off of the boat with $14.00 in his pocket. He met Mom who came from Turin, and the married here in America.

Dad and I talked a lot.. He loved Poland but loved America more, for what it gave him. When i asked why he left. They were hungry. This song will explain it'
