Law / Opening a Polish Bank Account by a foreigner in Poland. Recommendations. [299]
I opened my account with WBK.. mainly as i live in the west of Poland... and there are hundreds of cash machines so i don't have to pay 5zl to take cash out...
Their internet portal is in English which is useful...
Although i have two accounts with them.. one in zl and one £ mainly because the crap exchange rate at the moment.. although i tend to take money out in £ at the branch and go to a Kantor to get a better rate than the bank...
All i needed was my Passport and my 5 year registration plus you can get a Visa for your account

Speaking of WBK i went in to a branch today to withdraw 500zl because i had forgot my card, to find out they had "forgot" to add my passport as ID on my account, so theoretically I opened my account with my PESEL number with no photo ID.... was made to wait nearly 40mins to sort it out but in the end I got my cash..... I couldn’t believe it! good job I went with my translator (well fiancée... lol)
Other than that.. they are great!

Life / Poczta Polska Is Killing ME! Transit time. [28]
I also have the same problem... most things i am sent from the UK or PL gets lost!, i've had letters from the bank in PL lost and some stuff from the UK also lost!
I want to order some books but i am scared they will get lost!
Drives me nuts! but hey.. nothing i can do about it!

Most people in the UK wont eat a kebab unless they have consumed 10 pints already!
I must say, most kebabs i have eaten in PL have been quite good!

It depends on where your planning on going, mainly because the further you go from Poland the bigger the dish you MAY need.
My brother (in-law) purchased Cyfra in PL and took the equipment to Holland where he was working... all worked fine and he could receive most channels!

Have you read nothing about Poland! they love to stamp things, make you wait in massive cues, then they have a face like a slapped ass when you ask for something :)
You can open an account with Mbank online, but I'm not sure if u have to be in PL to open an account with them. Most banks require a PESEL but Mbank don't :)

I love honey, i eat Polish honey from the local market for breakfast everyday, this is the first year i haven't had hey-fever! its great.

Love / WILDROVERS FIVE YEARS IN POLAND....come to an end...! [132]
I'm gutted that you will be leaving before we have had chance to have a BBQ on your farm! Its a shame although your going to somthing better... a loving relationship, which we all deserve in our life.
Your farm sounds amazing (apart from the old bat stealing your fruit) and i wish i had had the chance to come up!
I wish you al the best and look forwarrd to seeing you in Moscow!!

Life / What is Nowy Sacz like? [26]
Having spoken to some people, some say there is a well renowned business university in Nowy Sacz?
So as an English teacher you should be ok, lets be honest Lowfunk, it must be better than Lubin :)
Also if you like snow sports also i hear its a good place for skiing and the such like!
I'm also making the big move down south this year but to Bielsko-Biała, i wish you all the best and don't forget its not about how pretty the town is, its what you make of your life :)

I agree, but he hasn't been doing much lately, we were waiting 2 months for him to do a trip.
This morning i got my stuff from this guy:

1 pound per kg. and he goes every weekend. picks up Sat and delivers Monday :)

Work / English teaching books in Poland: villains and heroes [30]
My teaching resources heroes this year would be:
FCE Masterclass - great all round teaching resource although the grammar sections are massive as you may expect!
New English file - even though the Upper Int contains a few mistakes!
I am still hunting for a really good teen book which isn't already being used in public school...... any ideas??
One range to avoid..... New Plus from MM publications!
Our school director chose it, thinking that a book focused on speaking, listening and writing with no structured grammar would be a good idea..... WRONG The worst teaching resource I've ever had to use....... and i once taught a couple of hours of Callan :)

I remember interviewing somebody once who told me in the interview that he never prepares a lesson, just asks the students what page in the textbook they're up to.
