History / Poles should apologise to Ukrainians first [395]

So you waited for six months

Or even just saw it.

The difference between 'nationalism' and a normal liking for one's culture is that the former is a euphemism for something very unpleasant, the politics of exclusion on arbitrary grounds.

what about your own nationalism

Since so-called nationalism is an emotional refuge of the weak, I'm fortunately free of it.

Being "very" something (though personally I'm not) isn't 'nationalism'.

So much toxicity in this thread, and little positivity about creating a wholesome culture.

Classifieds / introduce my job products from china [27]

@Paulina
Indeed it isn't, however they are particularly egregious offenders.

Even with western companies outsourcing production there, they obstruct (and sometimes physically impede) factory and supply chain audits.

from China

Can you confirm that they aren't made by forced labourers or in occupied Tibet or in one of the concentration camps that China runs for Ughyurs?

Polonia / Why do Lviv & Vilnius look nicer than Polish cities? [16]

And communists allowed only such architecture - everything had to be unified

And fascists only allowed such architecture - by exploiting workers to the extent that their housing was uniform.

There's nothing inherently 'communist' about such architecture. It exists outside countries that had governments which identified as communist.

History / 70th anniversary of 1943 Wołyń/Volhynia and Eastern Galicia Massacre - controvercies [454]

These are the people

These are the people you're trying and failing to demonise.

Or even aren't, since you've no reason to make assumptions about the personal politics of the individuals whose lives you've wrecked.

Why are you not helping us?

Why would anyone help r*SSia in its war crimes and hatred of freedom?

Now compare that to Ukrainians - who live without apology

And who you tried and failed to invade (having previously tried to starve every single one to death, hence your sour grapes and trying to rake up dark chapters of the past.

When Poles do that they don't put on Nazi uniforms.

And some others do. You'll not change that any time soon.

And yes, Polish fascists do Hitler salutes.

ussian officials saying "we didn't kill enough people in Katyn?"

We see decades of denial, the Katyn monument being 'downgraded' and recent editions of 'official' text books omitting it.

communist

It's often a mistake to describe something as 'communist' when in fact it's just of its time and much the same as anything elsewhere regardless of political issues.

The angular houses can be and often are modernised without trying to disguise their original form.

You know very well that's not what that

What is "that"?

If it's an official event, then it's very much about the fallen.

If it's something organised by an extreme political group, then Poland has the same creepy right wing stuff and Poles aren't in a great position to complain.

Better to look at the future not the past.

That's quite a manky makeover. It just looks like a fairly dull modern house. Some of the old 60s and 70s angular houses have been updated in a far better way without hiding what they are.

News / Is NORD STREAM dangerous for Poland's natural enviroment? [540]

Great Britain?

No. The U.K., though Britain will do. The Great part is the geographical description of the main island. And currently the only major fully independent country in the region since only part of Turkey is I. Europe.

And fortunately it has gas/oil too so doesn't have to do dodgy deals with r*SSia for oil and gas.

Nazi armies rolled through Ukraine - they still didn't know what Nazism was

Of course not. As mentioned, they weee kids who'd grown up in an information vacuum, having known (depending if they grew up in the part of Ukraine occupied by r*SSia or occupied by Poland) persecution from either.

and yet they still didn't know what Nazism was

Most of them could barely read, let alone find Berlin on a map or understand political theory.

innocent

At least you're right about that.

History / Pol-Shorpy Photo Thread [950]

The Polish cavalry did not attack German tanks

There was a cavalry charge against (I think) a mechanised infantry unit however the stories of cavalry charges against tanks are due to a film of a real cavalry charge made shortly before the war and shown by Pathé in cinemas worldwide.

As did the elites of all the other Western countries as well. And

No, not all.

The only fully independent major country in Europe did not expect Ukraine to fall. And were it not been for that country, r*SSia would be in Kyiv now.

anyone can have sex with anyone,

Have you ever been to Blackpool during Glasgow Holiday Fortnight?

Katie Perry? I'd heard the name but wasn't sure who she was so had to google her. It said she's religious. Christian apparently.

Language / How to correctly pronounce "złoty" in Polish? "ł" letter [17]

Maybe 70 years ago

Or 80 even.

I knew someone from a rather posh background in pre-war Wilno who died well into his 90s about 10 or 15 years ago. He always used it and it sounded beautiful.

Thing is, he was a TV and film actor and when acting pronounced it the modern way.

Nowadays it's as close to the BrEng "W" as to be virtually indistinguishable from it.

Life / Differences between Irish, British, Polish, American and other nations culture, tradition, music - loose talk [241]

md 20/20, thunderbird

They became fashionable among students in the UK back in the mid 80s. Utter muck but fun at the time.

"Arizona" is not normal wine, it's 'jabol'....

I once bought a chocolate flavour cherry wine in Poznan, for about 7zl. Dreadful and aimed at homeless and the poorest alkies. Worth a try though. As were those chocolate favour cigarettes (Nestor?) that used to be made in Lublin and are banned now.

It's a really big music/arts festival and very popular. Quite leftfield. I'm not sure what music they play however it's been happening for decades and has its own traditions.

I think it can be quite expensive. Plus a lot of work since you have to prepare stuff well in advance. As far as I know, you can't just pitch up with a sleeping bag like at Glastonbury.

There are music festivals in PL of course, most of them very mainstream however there's one, somewhere north of Warsaw, which is the nearest thing to that. I forget its name.

satanist festival where all the filth and sodomy

Hard to know where you pulled that gem from.

Travel / Winter break Road trip - Poland or Ukraine? [9]

Zamosc is a decent place for a couple of days (especially the brewery). Lublin is also very pleasant.

We did 2 nights in Zamość and it was the perfect length of stay. And yes, Lublin is nice to visit.
