Food / Poles have a more loving attitude to food than here in the UK [89]

"grzyby" in Autumn

And the first nowalijki in spring, sometimes in time for the Easter święcone.
Now you can get strawberries in January, but they are partially green, hard and tasteless. They have to pick them partially unripe to endure the jostle of transporting them from Spain or Italy. Poland's June strawberries are fragrant, juicy and delicious, although this has not been a good year for them.

BTW health experts now agree that the healthiest is locally grown produce consumed in season.

News / The dossier of TW "Bolek" - Poland's IPN assisted by police enters the home of the late general Kiszczak [306]

Merged:

Now it's official: Wałęsa was a paid snitch of the PRL poltical police

The IPN has dropped their investigation into the alleged falsification by the SB of Wałęsa's incriminating police files. When shown the documents found at Kiszczak's home, he claimed they had all been falsified. The graphologists who studied his signature and handwritng found beyond a doubt that they were written in his own hand. He had signed a pledge to collaborate with the SB and had submitted handwritten reports about the people he had snitched on.

That brief several-year episode in the 1970s does not undermine Wałęsa's role in Poland's peaceful revolution. He did not invent the foolishness of youth -- a comon phenomenon. His major offence has been his total denial of that episode. History will probably treat him fairly and refer to that shortocming as the passing episode it really was.

"Dobrucki"?

DOBRUCKI: Root is dobr- (good, fine, fair ). Could have been derivded from diminutives of the adjective dobry (eg dobrutki, dobruteńki). There was a noble line amongst the Dobruckis allowed to use a coat of arms. More info at: research60@gmail

News / The Mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz cuts down 150,000 trees in the Poland's capital. [84]

Gronkiewicz-Waltz

NOTE: This post ended up in Random, maybe I even mistakenly put it there. But it belongs in the politics section so I am re-posting it below. Sorry for any confusion.

Apparently 20 months of hateful frustration and impotent fury have completely addled the brains of the leaders of the losers' camp. Schetyna, who has been making uninvited forays to Brussels where EU member government send their representatives to EU summits, has gone one step beyond. Not only has he badmouthed his own country and supported calls for sanctions, but now he is advocating mutiny. With regards to Poland's firm stand againnt accepting unvetted migrants, Schetyna says he will make deals with PO-stacked local councils and invite "refugees" regardless of what the government says. Apparently he doens't know that the state is repsonsible for guarding the country's borders as well as its immigration policy. Not to be outdone, the Lady Mayor of Warsaw, whose family made a pile thanks to the property restitution scandal, has refused to testify before the commission investigating the scam. She claims it is unconstiutional and -- get this -- as a law professor she has asked the the low-level Administrative Court to rule on its constituionaltiy. Only the Constitutional Trinbunal can do so.

Food / Poles prefer pizza & kebab? [73]

isn't very "street friendly

Grilled kiełbasa in a bun, paszteciki and krokiety with typical Polish fillings could be tasty, hand-held street food, but they haven't been cultivated nad promoted properly. Seems we can once again paraphrase Mickiewicz's words: "Co obcy wymyśli, Polak polubi!"

Indeed, and handel was taken over intact. Your strefa chillout is all the more interesitng in that strefa probably comes from German Streif (sector, strip, orignally a swathe of sheet-metal).

incredibly rich vocabulary

I think it would be fascinating if someone took an excerpt of some literary work or a page from a textbook, indicating which nation had provided which loanword. Myself, I'm too lazy to tackle such a proejct.

Language / Some German loan-words in Polish language [17]

Since Germans constituted the majority of residents in many Polish towns when they were first developing centuries ago, many Polish words denoting municipal affairs, handicrafts, implements, etc. are of German origin. They include rada (council [from German Rat]), burmistrz (mayor [Bürgermeister]), ratusz (townhall [Rathaus]), plac (town square [Platz]), rymarz (leather-worker [Riemer]), ślusarz (locksmith [Schlosser]), śruba (screw [Schraube]), sznur (rope [Schnurr]), etc. In general not only langauge, inventions, tools, concepts, etc. went from West to East and from South to North. To a large extent ecclesiastical terminology was borrowed from Bohemia, Poland's Christianising nation: eg kościół < kostel < castellum (Latin for castle). Other examples include ołtarz, msza and klasztor. Polish has of course also absorbed numermous latinisms, italianisms, turkism, magyarisms, gallicisms and anglicisms.

One hopes they also turn away neo-Trotzkyite scum of Michnik's ilk. Międlar would have made a speech and gone home. The real threat is posed by anarcho-leftist subversives who want to undermine and dismantle Western civilisation and promote Eurabia.

"Ucho Prezesa"

The few instalments of the satirical "Ucho prezesa" series Kaczyński has seen amused him greatly and had him ROFL. It's good to have a sense of humour unlike the dour likes of Scheryna, Petru and Michnik. Lighten up, lads, and don't take yourselves that seriously!

News / Mister President Andrzej Duda - Best Poland could get. [83]

One of the best Presidents Poland ever had

President Andrzej Duda is Poland's most trusted politician, according to a new survey. Duda is trusted by 62%, followed by Prime Minister Beata Szydło on 56%, and Paweł Kukiz, head of an anti-establishment parliamentary grouping, on 50%, according to the survey by pollster CBOS.

Duda's trust rating grew by 4 percentage points in June. Only 27% of respondents said they did not trust the head of state.
Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz was the most distrusted politician, with 52% sceptical about him.
That is not surprising. Apart form Kaczyński, no-one has been as viciously smeared by the losers faction, and the reason is obvious. The losers fear he will again shine the spotlight on their dirty PRL-era collaboration as well as exspose their post-PRL scamsterism which they prefer to keep in the shadows or under the carpet. All cockroaches prefer dirty, dark cracks to bright sunlight!

Krusireski?

A gross misspelling! Kruszyński exists. It could have originated as a patronymic nick (son of someone nicknamed Kruszyna - tiny, eeny-weeny, small child, crumb of food) or a toponymic one from numerous localities in Poland called Kruszyn and Kruszyna. Coats of arms existed for the Kruszyńskis.

KOD

As more and more Poles see through the motley collection of child-maintenance evaders and VAT fraudsters, sex-slave traffickers, ex-PRL SB agents and other unsavoury types populating the trough-defending KOD gang supported by the Platformers, PO continue to fall further behind PiS. The latest Kantar survey has shown that PiS would receive 39% support, PO - 18% and Kukiz 11%,

laughably extreme

To some, an extremist is a brainless, heartless, soulless money-grubbing profiteer who knows little beyond supply and demand and view life basically in terms of consume and excrete. That definiton does not fit an indiviudal trying to strike a sensible balance between the temporal and the spiritual, between physical needs and higher values.

minister Morawiecki

Remember the hysterical initial reaction to 500+? It will bfreak the budget, it won't work, lowlifes will drink and smoke the extra money away...bla-bla-bla. There were even some such a*seholes on FP, not mentioning any names! When Morawiecki tried to explain that tightening up VAT enforcement would provide the needed fuads, he was laughed out by the embiettered losers of KOD. Petru and PO. Eventually, the losers club accepted the idea and tried to go the government one better with similar schemes of their own..

It turns out that tsricter VAT enforcement had indeed provided 20 billion zl, more than enouhg to cover the 17 billion spent a year on 500+. So the mean-spirited "total oppositon" nitpickers and badmouthers are now welcome to eat crow! Smacznego!

Being bald as a cueball doesn't necessarily mean haing a thick skull, but in some cases it may. I have repeatedly said I never listen not only to Radio Maryja but any radio whatseover. (Have you finally checked out my car on your lateat snooping escapade?) Morawiecki said what he did on TVP1 Wiaodmości, the only reliable televison news source apart from Telewizja Republika.

scammers

The scammers are the big-time VAT fraudsters -- the recovered 20 billion zł is but a fraction of what those psot-commie PO/SB scumballs have stolen. But Morawiecki has just begun his clean-up of Platformer crime and grime. Even thouhg they have tried to cover up hteir tracks, the whole PO elite deserves to be behind bars: Tusk, Kopacz, Gronkiewicz, Graś, Sikorski, "Wristwatch" Nowak and many, many more.

patriotic government

Dep. PM Morawiecki said on the evening news that stricter VAT enforcement has given Poland 20 billion zł. That is as much as Poland gets from the EU in a year. Thta has more thna paid for the 500+ programme on which the govenremnt is spending 17 billion zł this year. Under the PO scamster regime, that money went into the private pockets of collaborating shady businessmen, crooked politicians and former PRL poltical police. Another commendable achievement from the good-change government! Meanwhile the venomous "total opposition" spew their hate, disdain and derision. That's all they're good at! No wonder PiS have 42% backing, twice that of PO.

Life / Boże Ciało (Corpus Christi) - a beautiful celebration in Catholic Poland [22]

kept it as a holiday

Probably there were at least a few thinking people amongst the ham-handed leadership who convinced their bosses that a token gesture would generate some goodwill. Obviously, with Moscow's approval. In fact, in the first post-war processions (1945-48), Soviet agent (nominal president) Bierut was in the front row of worshippers. Despite their own propaganda, the regime knew they were hated as stooges of a foreign occupation power and saw this is a way of humanising their image. After hard-line Stalinism took hold (1949-53), the regimists stopped attending but its public-holiday status remained. But on into the Gierek years, rival activities (fests, picnics, runs, sporting events) were held on that day and state televison ran once hugley popular serials such as "Bonanza" and "Dr Kkildafre" in a bid to decrease procession attendance.

Thusrday, 15th June is Boże Ciało (Corpus Christi)

Thursday, 15th June, is Corpus Christi, a public holiday in Cahtolic Poland whether PiSlamic likes it or not. There is a big central procession in Warsaw and other cities, but each and every parish also holds its own neighbourhood one. The procession goes right by our home so we decorate our windows with a cross and flowers as wlel as a Polish and Church flag. I should add this is a work-free national holiday, and some may be surprised to learn that it also was during the commie era. The regime did liquidate a few relgious holidays (Epiphany and Assumption -- since reactivated) and renamed All Saints Day the Day of the Dead but stopped short of abolishing Corpus Chrisit as a national holiday. Once widely practiced in America's Polonian neighbourhoods, eventually it fell by the wayside under the pressure to WASP-ify. During the 1970s ethnic renaissance, it was reusrrected in some places. In Detroit, my good friend, the late Michał Królewski, and his youth group, the Polish-American Folk Theater, arranged to have hte procession go down the middle of the street in a traditonal Polish neighbourhood with little girls strewing the way of the Blessed Sacrament with flower petals and paticipants singing Eucharistic hymns.

I read it from time to time just to keep track of the lies, distortions and ham-handed propaganda. Michnik's increasignly addled brain is so poisoend with PiS-bashery that when some inexprienced kid plougehd into PM Szydło's convoy, they nearly canonised the bloke. PiS-bashers bought him a new car and wanted him to sue the PM for allowing her covnoy to be ploughed into..... It staggers the mind to what sick dementia pure, unadulterated hatred can lead!

Freudian error!

On balance, because like everyone, some PiS reps ocasionally make gaffes and slip-ups, but only those who do nothing never make misatakes. That is, unless one belongs to PO -- they are doing nothing and still make blunder after blunder. Like when Schetyna and his minions couldn't get their story straight on accedting unwanted migrants. Schetyna definitely said no, whilst his underlings claimed otherwise. Par for the course with the losers' club.

Why should I? I am neither to blame nor responsible for any of it. I am not privy to the govdernment's inner workings but am simply an observer of the Polish scene and can see that on balance the good-change government is liing up to its name. I also saw the catastrophic incompetence, misrule, mismanagement, lies, scams and bambloozling of Tusk's scmaster regime. Don't ask me why, ask them. Maybe it's becuase they're bamboozlers?

desperate to drive the discussion away

Prefcisely, why is PiSlamic so desperate ot drive the discussion away from ongoing PO scams whose enormity has only just recently come to light. And continue the cost the taxpayer money such as the OFE heist when the Tusk regime declared a portion of the pension fund to be "public property" which got funnelled away for the government do with as they see fit. So many unaccounted for affairs, scams and scandals, but PiSlamic wants to sweep them all under the carpet and attack the good-change govdernment. An a propos Polish saying: Głupich nie sieją, sami się rodzą. (Rush to Google translate!)
