Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

Polish nastiness is genetic and inborn and is beyond the self help or control of the Poles themselves.

LOL. This seems to work perfectly in your case Michal. Doesn't it? Yeah, you are beyond help.

"Gibasz się jak plandeka na żuku"

lol. Never heard this one. It would also fit the wobbly walk of a drunk.
(I like the saying, it's funny)

History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that BBoy never tries to "invade" his Eastern Germany brothers..why don't you direct your energy there? I heard on the radio, that west Germany is ashamed of their eastern brothers...start 'fixing' them. Will you? In the mean time they should be a perfect, border cushion. hehehehe.

Travel / Fishing in Poland - where to go, what to catch? [80]

ukpolska, this is horrible and very disturbing what you wrote.
What happened to my beautiful kieleckie forests full of hare, deer, wild boars and beautiful red foxes? As a daughter of forest ranger walking through the forest daily, I was often startled by variety of wild animals. They always ran out of my way... they scared more than me (besides one 'fresh' fox who dared to come close to sniff me).

There was such thing as a hunting party in our house, organized by the District of Forestry, but only during early winter. Mostly pheasant, deer, hare.. It was forbidden as of February or March(if i remember correctly), when the females could be already pregnant). My father was always checking the most favorite angler's spots. They were given tickets (or he got drunk with them).

I can't believe in this gloomy picture you painted. Not to mention the dogs. I hope people get severely punished when caught.

Ale facet bzdury napierdalasz.

That's correct, but you could also say 'Co ty pierdolisz?" It is always directed to someone who talks nonsense, or simply denies the obvious.

Life / Polish folklore/legends [61]

baba-jaga!

Where the heck is my broom. I'd show Harry Potter what to do with it. Really.
I lived about a 100 km from £ysa Góra in Poland. The witches were flying by so often, you had to be careful not get into an accident with them old broads.

Janosik was a good guy, he took from the rich and gave it to the poor. Zorro like character. Where is he now? Lots of people could use his services.

Life / Polish folklore/legends [61]

I was hunted by a Rah-Rah when I was a kid... It had a long, red, bleeding theeth...I never seen it, but every time i wanted to venture outside (when it was dark), my mum was warning me...it is going to abduct you and you never come home...scary.

(How are you kiddo?) I'm glad to see the mysterious cat appearing from time to time.

News / Original cars manufactured in Poland [64]

Is it a Polish car? I assume that the picture is taken from the late 1970's. An interesting photo all the assume. It must bring back strange memories looking at the Polish countryside and comparing it to Chicago.

It was my brother's police car. There is the 'kogut' on the car's roof if you look closer.
I don't know what the make of the car was. We visited his in-laws somewhere 20 km from Gorzow. Yes, it was mid 70's and I remember them rather fondly. The late 70's got really bad.

Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

Unfortunately, Poland has a long way to learn the proper way of servicing the public. The staff and the paperwork required are beyond comprehension of anybody who lives abroad and has to deal with it, when they need to. The customer is still just a "nuisance" to be dealt with and not a person to be helped. I just had a long conversation this evening with a person who came from Poland. She was there for about 4 months, so she went to a doctor, the dentist, post office...whatever. She stood in lines and steamed inside at the inefficiency and luck of respect for a customer.

If you make an appointment with a dentist for 10 a.m. and the he 'shows up' at 2 p.m. without a word of apology for all his waiting clients, what would you think? This punk would be out of business in The US within first month or sooner.

Food / Healthy polish food? [134]

As long as polish families will keep on cooking their own meals (no matter how 'fatty" they may sound), they will not get obscenely fat. The moment they will pick up a burger or a large pizza on the way from work and then sit in front of a TV for the whole evening and on the weekends, the butts will start to spread. :)

Life / Superstitions in Poland [60]

I accidentally broke a mirror

I did too, yesterday... Seven years of bad luck for me now. I shouldn't even bother to leave the house now...but wait... I hear that most of the worst injuries happen at home!

I'm doomed!

Shawn, I had no idea that even people from Canada knew the orbit Restaurant!
Kowalczyk (the owner, whatever happened to him) would be very proud. :)

I'm not sure exactly when the restaurant was closed, but it might have been around 10 years ago ... It was on the corner of Milwaukee Ave and Central Park. There is a Bank in that spot now.

You may want to visit Angelica's restaurant on Milwaukee Ave instead, just a bit north of Belmont. I met there with some forum members last summer.... good food.

Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [450]

"Ahhh, mam to wszystko w nosie" - this is a popular saying, I remember from Poland...
Well, your nose has to be huge, if you have "everything' in your nose... :)

OK, literally "I have everything in my nose"...what it means is: "I don't care"

I just feel sorry for Michal...all the Pinocchios he's got in his household...the wife, the kids..him...they really need to be careful not too get their noses tangled up. :)
