Food / Comparison of supermarkets in Poland. Which one is the cheapest? [33]

Which one is the cheapest?

The cheapest supermarkets in Poland:

1. Auchan.
2. Tesco.
3. Carrefour

Among the cheapest hypermarket chains in Poland was Auchan who in recent years has won the title of the cheapest store in Poland. Another took place in the ranking respectively, Tesco and Carrefour . The most expensive was the Real hypermarket. It is worth noting the relatively small difference between the highest and Shopping Network cheapest - this year it is only 24.80 zł . According to experts, this may mean that the networks in Poland very carefully monitor each other's prices in order not to allow the outflow of customers to competing stores.

In the category of most affordable and customer friendly store for the second time in a row the highest marks met the British Tesco . As for the speed of service , fresh quality products , the order on the shelves and the overall cleanliness of the store network clearly ahead of the British competition. Two more places were occupied in the ranking Auchan and Carrefour . Interviewers also noted that at the present time taking care of the environment and ecology fashion free plastic bags uświadczy not in hypermarkets Carrefour , E. Leclerc and Kaufland .

Yes, I admit that my unrefined opinions were overshadowed by extremely intelligent and up-to-point remarks of Alligator and Boletus. Their comments here are simply exemplary. :):):)

And me? I am just a little boy from Poland.

And everything what I can say is one thing again: Rymkiewicz is a disgusting opportunistic azhole.

He became part of opposition when it was difficult to find someone in Poland who wasn't.

The guy is so hopeless that I am really amazed we are spending so much time in this thread. :):):)

However, we are probably driven by the need to entertain ourselves with certain suppositions posted here:

I know that such statements in any other country have no meaning and probably would be treated with indiference. The problem is that he did not say that in USA, but in Poland.

A very important remark. Exactly, the American context of such cases is different than the Polish one. Dess, don`t be so narrow-minded, show more reason.

But you won`t.

The PO activists who moderate this forum can afford to be persistent, as it is their job to post. It's interesting how weakly they argue and how quick they are to argue against freedom of speech.

Come on.... that is so pathetic that I am gonna cry.

It's also slightly bizarre for individuals like Pawian to start insulting me

If I had really insulted you, I would have been banned and my post would have landed in the bin. Nothing like that happened.

But at least "freedom of expression" works full blast, and people can do even stupider thinks

And if they sued me for calling them maniacs, I would win too, after bringing to court today`s revelations from Brussels.

My God, don`t they realise they are obsessed?

Say, I am a bar owner. You run your local community paper. One day you assert in your paper that I hate Irish Catholic people. I summon you first to publicly apologize and optionally compensate me for your wrongdoing. You refuse. I sue you. Now the burden is on you to prove in court my Irish-Catholic-hating attitude.

Bol, it is all useless. The addressees of your explanations reject reason and have only one answer:

Des Essientes - you've really earned my respect by your intelligent arguments and persistence.

The fact remains that Rymkiewicz's words for everybody who is not biased or partisan are not slanderous

First of all, Rymkiewicz is biased himself.

Secondly, his words sound unbiased only to his kin - aggressive patriots who woke up after communism collapsed because earlier they had been busy making careers in the communist state!

only an opinion in the political debate.

You can`t say everything in a public debate. There are still limits. Lying is punishable.

Imagine GW accused Rymkiewicz of szmalcownictwo during WW2 - that he gave away Jews to Nazi Germans and took money for it. If GW editors weren`t able to prove it, they would have to pay a large amount of money in compensation after a lost lawsuit.

Rymkiewicz did sth like that when he accused GW of various dirty things.

It's frightening that there is still an opinion in Poland that if you are patriotic you are some sort of right wing racist.

If you mean aggressive loudmouth patriots, then yes.

This poet expressed his opinion of a newspaper.

Which was considered defamatory by the editors.

He did not commit prosecutable slander by any sane definition of the term slander.

That is your private opinion which I dare to disagree with. And the Polish court did, too.:):):):)

Freedom of speech depends of who is speaking. Bartoszewski can rave freely about "dyplomatołki" and "bydło", call grief after the Smoleńsk "nekrofilia", Niesiołowski is free to call X "chory z nienawiści", "kłamca" etc but

Why don`t you quote PiS leaders who abused their opponents? :):):):)

I'm a journalist

I dare to remain doubtful about this revelation. :):):):)

Working for a newspaper does not exclude one from being part of the public.

hmm, strange, but I dare to disagree. :):):):)

Journalists and editors should have just as much freedom to express their opinions as does anyone else.

Come on, you can`t really believe it. :):):)

Wake up Pawain! Defend freedom of speech in Poland!

DeSS, don`t be silly. :):):):) There is freedom of speech in Poland.

However, there is also freedom from slanderous accusations.

I am saying that Poland does not need laws to protect newspapers from the opinions of the public.

Wrong! Read my post above where I stated that Rymkiewicz isn`t a private person but works for an extreme right wing paper.

Neither old men, nor anyone else in Poland, should have to be careful when expressing their opinions regarding a newspaper!

Unless they are another paper`s journalists/editors.

I don`t think so.

I am quite disappointed that, in my ancestral homeland, an old man has to pay a fine, because he stated his opinion regarding a newspaper,

Stop being impervious to reason, Des.

Alligator, in a very intelligent manner, is trying to explain certain things to you but you won`t listen. Wrong! Do you really need to add fuel to the myth of dumb Polams? Whose interest does it serve? :):):):):)

All states except Arizona, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee recognize that some categories of false statements are so innately harmful that they are considered to be defamatory per se. In the common law tradition, damages for such false statements are presumed and do not have to be proven.

Statements are defamatory per se where they falsely impute to the plaintiff one or more of the following things:[7]
Allegations or imputations "injurious to another in their trade, business, or profession"
Allegations or imputations "of loathsome disease" (historically leprosy and sexually transmitted disease, now also including mental illness)
Allegations or imputations of "unchastity" (usually only in unmarried people and sometimes only in women)
Allegations or imputations of criminal activity (sometimes only crimes of moral turpitude)

ehow.co.uk/how_6131277_sue-small-claims-court-illinois.html

the fact remains that people in America say that certain newspapers "hate America" quite often and it is not prosecutable. This aged poet's statements would never have been prosecuted in America.

We live in Poland, not US. Why don`t you accept it as an obvious fact?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation#Poland

In Poland, defamation is a crime that consists of accusing someone of a conduct that may degrade him in public opinion or expose him "to the loss of confidence necessary for a given position, occupation or type of activity". Penalties include fine, limitation of liberty and imprisonment for up to a year (Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code). The penalty is more severe when the offense happens through the media (Article 212.2).[63] When the insult is public and aims at offending a group of people or an individual because of his or their nationality, ethnicity, race, religion or lack of religion, the maximum prison term is 3 years.[64]

Rymkiewicz isn`t a private person. He publishes for far right papers where he spreads his slander.
Liberal newspaper wins media libel war
30.11.2011 15:51
An appeal court in Warsaw has ordered the right-wing Gazeta Polska newspaper to print a correction statement after libeling Adam Michnik, editor of leading liberal daily Gazeta Wyborcza.

The case relates to an open letter written by 76-year-old poet Jaroslaw Rymkiewicz which accused Gazeta Wyborcza of being tainted by communist ideology.
"Adam! Once, long ago, we were friends. Now you want to take me to court... because I wrote the truth: that you - you and your people - are the ideological heirs of Rosa Luxemburg," the poet declared, referring to the Polish-Jewish communist revolutionary.

Yesterday's ruling follows on from an earlier hearing this April, in which Gazeta Polska was ordered to publish material submitted by Michnik's lawyers.

However, the editorial office of Gazeta Polska declined to publish the texts, which led to this month's hearing.
Supporters of Rymkiewicz argue that the case represents the stifling of freedom of speech in Poland.

Speech should be free.

Yes, someoone`s private speech should be free as long as someone else`s private rights of freedom from slander and false accusations aren`t violated.

Simple.

A cranky old man's opinion should not be prosecutable in this way.

Even cranky old men have to learn that they need to be more careful.

Now, a more interesting matter arises.

Rymkiewicz commented on the court`s ruling with a traditional Polish saying: Musi to na Rusi, a u nas jak kto chce. Must is in Russia, in Poland as you wish., suggesting he won`t obey.

If he doesn`t apologise, should he land in the slammer? What do you think?

"Michnik criticized Luxemburg for underestimating the independence aspirations of Poles" - said Rogowski. "I do not read Michnik" - Rymkiewicz said. When asked by a lawyer, Rymkiewicz admitted that his parents were in the Communist Party.

OMG. :(:(:(:(:

Iron, stop defending Rymkiewicz. He isn`t worth your time and energy, really. The guy seems obsessed with his cheap envy of people who fought openly against communism and rotted in prisons, while he was making a career at a communist university.

Alligator, I agree with this:

Freedom of speech like every other freedom has its limits. Everyone in Poland is entitled to exercise their freedom, as long as they do not undermine the rights and freedoms of others.Freedom of speech does not mean the freedom to purposefuly lie and offend anyone, to violate someone's dignity. One can not use the freedom of speech law, when he is lying, slandering, saying something that violates someone's personal rights.

What is nut is judges whose ruling is really beyond any limits of decency! Contrary to Rymkiewicz those judges are danger to the Polish interdependence and liability to the justice in Poland.

Nope, the ruling was all right as Rymkiewicz wasn`t able to prove that the paper`s editors hate Polish and Christianity as "the spiritual heirs of the Polish Communist Party."

The editors took an offence, sued him and won. It is normal in a democratic country.

A remark:

Where was Rymkiewicz in 1968 when Michnik went to prison for the first time?

Where was Rymkiewicz during Solidarity times of 1980s when Michnik spent 4.5 years in prison?

The answer is: nowhere near those important events. He was a poet and literature interpreter, making career at the communist university.

Today he spits venom on people who weren`t afraid to oppose communism openly.

Isn`t it pathetic?

Compare Michnik's conditions in jail with the fate of ordinary mortals who ended up there and you will see the massive, undisputable difference. Something you fail to see through your intentional blindness.
Normal mortal student thrown in jail - kicked off course, endures harsh conditions in jail.
Michnik - received good conditions in jail. Bed, study materials, received visits from his course leader, finished his course.

Sorry but this is too ridiculous to discuss. (:(:(:(:(

Sure he was a hero who singlehandedly destroyed Soviets Union, as a first human in history landed on Mars,

Nope. Such heroes were Walęsa and the Pope. :):):):) plus Gorbachov doing the inside job. :):):):):)

No, the thread is not about Michnik and whether he was detained or not but about his and his newspaper political stance and an attitude towards Catholics and Polish traditions,

Yes, I am sorry, but it was Varsovian who started writing bullshyt. I had to react..... :):):):):)

Excuse me, please.

What is based your attitude to Michink and why do you think that your attitude is superior not based on self-interest .

My attitude is superior because it is based on my personal experience, historical knowledge and emotional intelligence. :):):):)

A forgotten note to Varsovian:

Man, start reading books on the modern history of Poland. Then you will learn some facts and such ignorant entries of yours won`t take place:

Michnik was allowed to finish his studies - Kuron being allowed to have one on one seminars. Michnik travelled around Europe staying in consular accommodation when normal Poles couldn't even get out of the country.

They were allowed by communists to function as normal people in 1970s in order to receive Westers credits. Gierek`s regime tried to look civilised and pretended to follow the democratic standards and abide by human rights. In 1980s the " idyllic cohabitation" of Michnik and Jaruzelski`s regime ended because communist Poland was bankrupt and Western loans were halted anyway, that is why Michnik was imprisoned for 4.5 years without a sentence.

PS. Actually, a lot of normal Poles were allowed to go travel abroad in 1970s.

Come on. Have you ever read at least one historic book in your life?

I hate such ignorance.

A few pointers to those who might otherwise naively believe you: While other prisoners lived in appalling conditions, Michnik was allowed to finish his studies - Kuron being allowed to have one on one seminars. Michnik travelled around Europe staying in consular accommodation when normal Poles couldn't even get out of the country.

Don`t be silly. Michnik was detained a few hundred times by communist secret police and spent about 6 years in prison altogether.

When Warsaw University students held a protest in 1988, Michnik was there. Me too. He didn't have to run from the Zomo.

Oh, I see. It seems like a personal issue between you and Michnik based on primitive envy. When Michnik was in the slammer throughout 1980s, you enjoyed life in communist Poland. :):):):):):) How many times did you perform in school celebrations of 1 May ? :):):):)

When martial law was declared, in December 1981, he was at first an internee, but when he refused to sign, a "loyalty oath" and assent to voluntarily leave the country, he was jailed and accused of an "attempt to overthrow socialism". He was in jail without a verdict until 1984, because the prosecutor's office prolonged the trial on purpose.

Adam Michnik demanded to end proceedings against himself or have his case dismissed. Meanwhile, he wanted to be granted the status of a political prisoner, and went on a hunger strike in jail. In 1984 he was released from jail, under an amnesty.

He took part in an attempt to organize a strike in the Gdańsk shipyard. As a consequence, he was rearrested in 1985 and this time sentenced to three years imprisonment. He was released in the following year again under another amnesty.

Probably he wasn`t. I read a few of his articles and he sounded like just another PiS-oriented activist who calls a traitor everybody who disagrees with Jarosław Kaczyński and other similar maniacs.

Anyway, what about freedom of speech ?
He should has a right to express his opinion.

Slander/libel are crimes in democratic countries.
