Historical truth shouldn't depend on your relations with other countries. And teaching facts may actually improve relations between countries. Knowledge is power. Maybe that's why the Kremlin doesn't want RuSSians to know the real history between RuSSia and it's neighbours - it wouldn't be so easy to manipulate the RuSSian society then and set it against RuSSia's neighbours and the West.

I guess this speech didn't reach RuSSia then and was meant for outsiders (Poles in this case).

Sorry, Kania, bur that's not true. The Soviet Union and Nazi Germany made an actual pract in which they divided part of Europe between themselves.


I've never discussed with Putinist RuSSians who would acknowledge it as a mistake, let alone as something morally wrong. They were always justifying it in our discussions.

I have no idea if this is what he wanted or not. RuSSians have a tendency to falsify history in such a way as to whitewash themselves. So I don't know if RuSSian sources can be trusted... I'm not sure if I remember right, but I think that either I read it somewhere or it was theorised at a history lesson at my school that the civillians were massacred on purpose in order to terrorise Warsaw into surrendering (and that's what happened) and that Suvorov sent Cossacks on purpose to do the dirty job or sth.

When I recall comments made by you, Velund and that Serbian Putinist - being in favour of terrorising Ukrainian population in order to break their spirit, I wouldn't be surprised if that theory about Suvorov was right.

@Bobko, Poles were very disappointed with the attitude of popes towards the partitions of Poland and Polish struggle for independence. As Catholics they felt betrayed by the Vatican:

Probably that's why one of Polish most important poets, Juliusz Słowacki, predicted the coming of a Slavic pope in one of his poems - a pope that will make everything right. Here's a fragment:

No, that didn't make her a prostitute - she was married. In the past it was common, especially among noble and aristocratic families, to marry off their kids to "the right" family. Kids' marriages (men included, not only women) were supposed to serve their families' interests or save them from bankruptcy. For example, Polish classic 19th century novel "Lalka" ("Doll") revolves around this topic - a rich entrepreneur tries to persuade a woman from a noble family to marry him by paying off her family debts. I also recommend watching the film "The Other Boleyn Girl" if someone wants to have an idea what it looked like in the past.


Not by the standards of those times. She made her marry and not have sex outside of marriage. You could say, however, that a number of Polish aristocrats did "pimp Mary out" to Napoleon - they were hoping that she could influence Napoleon to support Poland's fight for independence. And apparently she did.

Btw, her husband must've known what was going on since everyone in Warsaw's higher circles knew about it. He also acknowledged Napoleon's son as his own. So I guess you could say that her own husband was "pimping her out" too.

Her mother married Mary off to that old fart, because her brothers had debts. So, first she Mary to sacrifice herself for her brothers/family and then for her country.

Eventually she did divorce the old fart and, together with her oldest son, got half of his estates (which were, of course, heavily indebted). Four years later Maria married her longtime admirer and lover, count Philippe Antoine d'Ornano.

I hope she got to experience some love and happiness at least later in her life.

I'd usually eat my city grandmother's pizza with hands, because it would be difficult to eat it with a knife and fork - the crust was as high as a cake would be. I'm not sure if you could even call it a pizza, but it was delicious :D The same with my mother's pizza - the crust is so thick and there's so much of topping on it that if I tried to cut it with a knife too much of the topping would fall off (my mouth is watering as I'm writing this ;D).

Sure, they, for example, kind of fold a slice of the Neapolitan pizza in two and eat it with their hands. But many Italians eat a pizza with a fork and knife, so that's clearly not the "wrong way" to eat a pizza :)))

Personally, when eating out I would eat a pizza using a fork and knife. At home - it depends on the pizza or whether I feel like getting my hands dirty or not (or whether it's hot or cooled off already) :)
