Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

A few days before Christmas I give up meat and depend on seafood.

We finished the Supper at 6 pm during which I stuffed myself with red borsch and dumplings, żurek with mushroom and potatoes, 3 pieces of fried carp marinated in beer. It was enough for a few hours until I got hungry again. I need to have a little snack before turning in. Fortunately, it is past midnight so the fast no longer applies and I can eat my fave stuff aka Polish sausage at last.
My wife made leek salad for tomorrow but I am taking advantage of it now.

plus

a blanket
3 books in Spanish version to learn the language
traditional Polish mead alcohol and beers
a fancy packet with lollypops

Also, other gifts I didn`t take a photo of like random sweets and a big bottle of olive oil which I offer to my eldest kid every Christmas.

Here, Polish mules coz produced by Polish workers in the Netherlands.

After the Supper we watched old photos as usual to revive the glorious past. This year I chose 2014 among others and found a similar dish with mules from Polish workers in the Netherlands but more advanced coz I had added other seafood in crispy fried style.

News / "Lack of Common Sense in Politics and Society" - political correctness in Poland [33]

I remember a British textbook published about 25 years ago. It contained a cartoon showing two women and a child mirror writing on a piece of paper. One woman says: He is dyslexic! And I thought he was learning Bulgarian!!!

Of course, that was the time when such jokes in serious publications were still possible. Today they aren`t.

covered in cream,

In herring salad, you mean?

beer as marinade.

The fish was excellent. Normally I eat 2 pieces but today I ate 3.

I am going to drink that beer marinade later on.

No, I couldn`t force myself to drink it. Yuk!

News / The Baltics states rely on Poland as their main defender against Russian aggression?? [213]

It's ok to say Xmas (but with one X)

Of course but Iron writes it with 3 Xs and two Ss like XXXmass. He is a little dysslexxicc, you know. This fact could absolve him from being corrected but if he is too lazy to write the full name like Christmas and still writes equally long XXXmass, then he is up for correction from me anyway.

Food / Polish Christmas Eve Dinner recipes [84]

Sausage, egg etc are good for typical żurek all year round.
While our Christmas żurek contains mushrooms and potatoes.

They can easily overwhelm more delicate flavours.

Exactly! I have nothing against that the strong flavour of dried mushrooms overwhelms the delicate flavour of potatoes. hahaha buhahahaha

Those crispsy rolls are called croquettes from French.
Polish fave when stuffed with minced meat all year round but on Christmas Eve they must be filled with mushroom/cabbage stuffing.

Here, only mushroom but also cheese instead of cabbage. The first time I had such and I must say the impression was very positive. Crispy outside and melting inside.

śledzik

We never have herring for Supper.

beer as marinade. Instead of the traditional milk, makes the meat more aromatic and exceptionally tasty.

It is already happening.
Of course, I never waste food so I am going to drink that beer marinade later on. Beer sushimi, sort of.

wafer sharing took place

I found such curious info in the Guide of Culinary Art:

In old Poland, wafers were beautifully painted.

Those were special wafers, not for sharing but to hang on the tree as decoration. Some wafers were even gilt.

Wafers after dyeing the flour with natural pigments gain different colour than white.

. The wafers were not only white, but also colored. The colored ones were intended for animals, mainly cattle. After the Christmas Eve supper, the housewife would collect the leftovers, add such a wafer to them and take it to the stable. It was believed that cows treated to it would be healthier and give more milk. It also meant that people wanted peace with all of creation.
