News / Mieszkania Plus programme - PiS fulfills yet another campaign promise [50]

The government was busy governing

hmm you never heard of the PO scandals and affairs - interesting

btw I am not sure what the government was doing if it allowed for billions of zlotys to be snapped away from the state by VAT scammers - for years

80 billion zlotys is around 1/5 of the Polish budget

News / Mieszkania Plus programme - PiS fulfills yet another campaign promise [50]

. There's only one sure-fire way to obtain money and that is to work for it.

well there are people who don't think that way and they have extracted over 80 billion PLN in undue VAT refunds from the sate last year

or maybe you think they worked for all that money, do you?

Food / I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM - the best ice cream shop in Poland? [34]

I think the tradition of making ice-cream came to Poland from Italy - I haven't travelled that much in my life but I was in southern Italy and their ice-creams where not much different to Polish - I only had and ice-cream once when I was in the UK but it was rubbish - I vaguely remember that I had ice-creams in Germany and they were quite like the Polish variety as well

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

Any idea why this is?

I think it is a complex issue - it sure has to do with recent and not so recent history - but even though you may ridicule the idea I think it also has spiritual background i.e. what kind of souls embody in this nation for the most part

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

helping someone through whatever means necessary entails some sort of pull or bribery, face it!

Lyzko Jews are known for their solidarity and Poles not so much (even though we had Solidarity movement) - if there is bribery involved I wouldn't call it help sorry

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

What group doesn't help the other, Mr. Wiech? Germans help Germans, Poles help Poles etc

you are wrong Poles don't help Poles - solidarity among Poles is very low -

History / Current Polish-Russian relations.. What do the Poles think? [60]

this is not true - however Slavs were once a gentically homogenic entity originated somewhere in the north Ukraine possibly in the swamps of the Pripyat' river - from there they expanded in a couple of directions initially and started to mix with indigenous populations where they expanded

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Clearly shows that PiS are actually on an average of 32% in May, while PO/Nowoczesna are ahead.

well says the one who predicted that PiS have no chance of forming a majority in Sejm

Important: If you post a link to a non-English source, ALWAYS summarize / translate the relevant parts into English!

here polska.newsweek.pl/pis-z-duzym-poparciem-w-sondazach-czy-popracie-spada-analiza,artykuly,378129,1.html

all here about it. Probably they weren't allied to PiS, so they got the money cut.

Centrum Praw Kobiet is a fundation aka NGO - the goverment does not have to fund these organizations there are state owned organs that deal with the victims of domestic violence

He should be ashamed of himself

you won't win this war no matter how hard you try - no matter how many Newsweek articles you quote and the support for PiS is not 33 per cent but still 37 per cent and I guess it will grow until the next elections

PiS believe that cutting funding for centres that deal with victims of domestic violence is a correct thing to do

btw i haven't found the info anywhere - where did you get it from?

, you'll never understand Poles, or be one.

hhahah said the one who understands the Poles funny

Oops, yet again you get caught fibbing about the lovers of PIS.

it's a mistranslation or a deliberate manipulation - no Polish source repeats what your English language source states

Kaczmarczyk said glass ceilings are only in imagination of women - this not equals to wage discrimination is a myth

this is how Polish you are - you rely on English language sources to know what is going on in Poland

but they underestimated what motivated Poles can achieve.

KOD are a tiny minority of Poles - to compare them with Solidarity is hillarious - solidarity had 10 millions of members

he had a job at PZPN as a IT person with quite good money - but he quit to follow a political career

apparently his current wife supports him

It's well known that he had problems paying it when he was unemployed

he still does not pay the full amount that was decided by court - it's in one of his interviews afaik

Actually, many people have pointed out that the 500+ programme is doing more harm than good,

in what way??

what harm

as it's encouraging women to stay at home rather than stay in the labour market

hardly - I've seen the calculations and you are still much better off working than relying on the 500 PLN per month

If PiS really don't know how to encourage equality in the workplace,

what do you mean by equality - there is equality - you want some privildges for women I think - privilidges is not equality

you can't require women and men to take a leave equally - PiS is subsidising families right now as we speak - and I don't like the idea of the state being involved with promotions among stuff in private companies - you cannot force love or respect

Didn't you hear the highly amusing speech in which PiS openly declared that there is no such thing as a glass ceiling for women?

there is no legal inequality of sexes in Poland as far as I know - how is the state supposed to deal with glass ceilings that are not a reflection of the law - imposing quotas on CEO positions??

News / New European Council's report: "Poland oasis of racism, xenophobia and homophobia" ... [343]

The ones that voted for the Constitution.

do you think that most people who voted for constitution read it through at all? and that they gave a thought about how according to the constitution the constitutional tribunal is supposed to look and act like? you must be kidding then?

I actually had a glimpse of the constitution back then and it was a clever ploy by pretending to promise everything while actually promising nothing

and then the constitution doesn't state expressis verbis anywhere what would base the view that President's or the goverment's actions are/were unlawful

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

Korytkowska.

the name looks perfectly Polish and does not show any sings of Americanization - -ski (and -ska which is the female variety of the same ending) is in this case a toponymic ending - it means that the person had some ties with a place called Korytków or Korytkowo - this kind of surname formation was typical for nobility but not exclusive to nobility though - nobility formed a large part of the population of Poland though (up to 10 per cent) and many of them had nothing but the noble title

the place name Korytków (or Korytkowo) in turn is a formation from a personal nickname (like Adamsville) - the nickname was Korytko - which means little trough

It's even more painful to see how TVP Info spent the time focusing on Kaczyński and not on something genuinely newsworthy.

what was newsworthy about the demonstration - there were demonstrations before and nothing happened
for me they could march every weekend 0 it doesn't matter

and well Kaczyński on czat is much more newsworthy to me

One Polish retiree taking part to the demo said to a Euronews journalist that she was demonstrating because she refuses to have fundamentalism in Poland,

a completely confused human being

as you probably know you can't buy Kaczyński - Frasyniuk got hold of enormous amounts of cash for a previous opposition activist in the early nineties which allowed him to start a big transport firm - how? where did he get money from?

he was very outspoken against lustracja - maybe there is a reason for this
