History / Were Marx, Lenin and Luxemburg right about capitalism? [44]

they love seeing themselves as the good ones, the right ones, the only ones fighting for the betterment of mankind

There may be a reason for that.....

if mankind wants to or not!
Don't we?

There has been no example that after a leftist victory things lik...
had played any role anymore

There has and is. Britain, Canada, Australia, the Scandinavian countries ...

It all boils down to one question. Who should get the most material benefit from someone's job?

Should it be the worker himself or herself and the society they live in or should it be an 'investor' that has never even visited the workplace?

History / Were Marx, Lenin and Luxemburg right about capitalism? [44]

wow - that's interesting

It's roots are in something called Owenism (very worth reading up on), that and a mix of evangelical Protestant self help and Catholic social justice (most British Roman Catholics are industrial workers with roots in Ireland and are staunchly socialist).

Some would trace its roots back to the 17th century Diggers, Ranters and Levellers (though that's a bit of a stretch and you could even argue that its roots arenie late Medieval religious guilds though I'd not really do that f).

Human dignity a leftist value? The Chinese Communist Party

Yes. The Chinese regime are more an example of Chinese culture rather than socialism which they clearly don't have.in any western sense.

Well, you're an expert on leftist thought

An actual Marxist would say I'm very much not.

With Rosa Luksemburg (a Polish hero), she literally lived in a time of exploitation and revolution. Calmer voices are needed.

Among the Polish left, the voices were drowned out by r*SSian occupation, violence and oppression however one id listen to is the late Andrzej Strug. The museum dedicated to him in Warsaw is worth a visit.

One thing that harms the left in Poland, Germany etc is that most of the ideas came late and through Marxism. I'm more used to the British Labour movement which had its roots in different things, particularly religious values.

Then again, Poland did give us the Warszawianka.

Why the fvck are you here

fvck

jerk off ...... azzhole?

mancvnt

See what I mean, Admin?

Imagine how that looks to someone who comes here for the first time. Especially a lady.

And it's quite deliberate. On his facebook page, he's all
Sweetness and light. It's also the middle of the night in his timezone, and he's been posting this stuff since early morning.

Why am I here? Like many of us, I'm here to talk about Poland, the country I've lived in for several decades. Not about domestic politics in America, not about 'culture wars', and certainly not about 'b1tches'.

See what I mean? If anyone posts, one particular person automatically starts trying to argue.

It kills threads on interesting topics and puts people off posting.

It's more or less 24/7, 365 since he doesn't seem to leave the house. Even other people who make a lot of short posts (I think Pawian has the record and there are periods when I have time to kill and make plenty of posts) take timeout when we're at work or asleep and some quite long breaks when we're have other things going on and don't go online much.

As I say, it puts a lot of people off, especially the "b1tches" stuff and the extreme comments including about killing children. This happens many times daily and has done for a while. We can date the decline of the forum from when it started.

He either doesn't know or doesn't care that trash talk like that is unacceptable in normal society.

And if it's not that, he's bickering (often in orrevtlt) about people's grammar or the words they choose.

Another thing that would help the forum is if it weee iPhone or iPad friendly. I'd you post using one of those (and this does seem the way of the future for now) or tricky since the screen jumps up and down (At least it does on my devices) and you can't see what you're posting. It leads to typos and is pretend too much trouble.

History / Were Marx, Lenin and Luxemburg right about capitalism? [44]

Were Marx, Lenin and Luxemburg right about capitalism?

The first yes. He was first and foremost an economist, and his economic and historical theories are hard to refute. The other two? No. They were wrong.

Terry Eagleton's

Sometimes more wrong than right however yes, he does make very good points. He's mellowed with time; he could be very outspoken back in the day. He must be quite old now.

And after all, it is inherently immoral that a so called investor should get more money from someone's job than the person actually doing it.

Does it mean that the West is in the final stage of capitalism

Possibly, however Marx didn't spend much time looking at things from a global perspective and Lenin was naive. The rise of India etc and the decline of America may well change things in ways that were hard to predict.

Eagleton's rival Frank Furedi would probably disagree with me on this. His followers believe Marxism is transhumanist and try to apply the theories to a 'post-work' age.

which has to end with a massive war/revolution

Not so massive, however as Marx and Engles wrote in the manifesto, exploiters aren't going to give up their booty without a fight.

but they might attract more users who would be willing to support such a modernised, more attractive board

We'd need to boot Novichok for that. Garbage on almost every thread about "b1tches', rape, rants about minorities, advocating mass murder and the awful stuff he writes about black people would certainly put off most potential users who might contribute something interesting.

The forum used to be thriving; that won't come back in the same way since the internet is moving to apps, Reddit, whatever comes next etc however it still has the potential to be good. All that filth though, especially the misogynistic stuff, would certainly cause me and probably most of us to stay away if we came across the forum today.

News / Will PiS be happy if AfD wins elections in Germany? [1390]

Shocks are rarely healthy and it is always better to do the business of government smoothly.

Germany does have stability, and probably won't end up im the same mess as America (firing over 100,000 middle class professionals -what could possibly go wrong...) however there is also of course a history of instability too.

I th8 k you would prefer boring and somewhat unsatisfactory with a lacklustre economy to another Stunde Null.

(is "more fair" the correct English???)

Fairer is better. More fair is sometimes said (not usually by articulate people) but not often written.

They did that since the beginning

They've barely started.

Dogging as much dirt as possible, and rigorously prosecuting any crimes by them is a good tactic too.

Do you think its good or bad that they've got some votes this time?

said - it's already been done

Not generally with such extreme characters. Even the LPR and Samoobrona joining coalition was a disaster.

Relentless PR against them is a good approach. That and looking for as much dirt on the individuals in the party as possible. It wont make that much difference in teg east however it will prevent them gaining support in the larger west germany.

That or rebuild the "Anti Fascist Protection Barrier" again. Pretty well as soon as the wall came down, West Germans were joking that they'd need to rebuild it to this time keep the fascists in rather than out.

which only strengthened Kaczyński's party internally.

Yet they lost.

Better to laugh at them than attack them, as any PR person knows.

Old trick.

Bit an incredibly dangerous one and given that they're as extreme as it gets, not one acceptable to the general public.

I don't much like sites with adverts, however does a small banner ad bring much money in?

When I had a business website, it never really did however that was a much earlier time in the history of the internet.

Still the problem persists!

The problem of fascism and nationalism?

Yes, and education is the best way to tackle it.

How to get these people back...their votes

Rising living standards generally helps.

Neo-Nazis

That's what they are.

won't get you their votes bac

'You'?

It's the Germans who suffer from having them as an opposition party in their parliament. However, as I say, there will be resistance to them from decent people.

Neo-nazis? That is what they are, like it or not.

you could call the AfD now as this workers movement

You really couldn't. Unless one of their policies is that workers get the full fruits of their labour rather than investors. They're old fashioned fascists, basically neo-nazis.

Getting 20% of the vote in a difficult election during a time of economic decline is not a revolution of any sort. In fact it's rather banal and reactionary.

I notice that their votes are particularly in east Germany, basically a place with a tradition of authoritarianism.

We can expect the demonstrations etc from decent people to quite big ones anyway. If the afd had done well, for sure there would be riots.

the conservatives are always the ones with the teary nostalgia

More a nostalgia for a past that never existed. That and an "I'm alright Jack" attitude and a desire to enrich themselves at the expense of others.

If the left doesn't come up with a new, better vision for the future they will never win an election again!

They haven't won one for years in Germany as far as I know. The party that Scholz is in is close to centre-right.

Really there needs to be a robust workers¡ movement there. Without it, there's messes like the current one and a fast declining economy. It will be a difficult time there u til the next election.

Food / Which foods are generally disliked/unpopular in Poland? Which non-Polish foods are slowly gaining popularity? [180]

if they didn't live in water and were crawling around on land there's no way I'd eat them.

The same. Crustaceans (at least in some countries) have to be kept in clean water for several days before they're killed.

Rock shrimps (I googled them) sound nice (for me all crustaceans are ugly) however I've not seen them in Europe.

Have you had potted shrimp? You make it with Morecambe Bay Shrimps (tiny brown ones). Just the shrimps, cooked in melted butter and pepper and pressed in a small dish. You'd need to add salt if it's Polish butter. Traditionally served with toast. I've had some Morecambe Bay shrimp in freezer for the past 11 years. Too risky to eat now, however if I ever need to make a salad for r*SSians...

the German political establishment which is alienated from voter concerns

Faceless bureaucrats however that is preferable to charismatic politicians. Especially there.

The main issue is that they were arrogant about the economy and expected unrealistic growth rather than decline. Merging two countries was never going to be easy, especially when one of them was East Germany.

Thankfully though, not the far right

It's sad that neo-nazis got those votes in east Germany. Perhaps reunification was a mistake as so many people, Thatcher for ecample, said it would be

The rest of Europe needs no watch them very carefully; especially since there's little holding them back from getting close to r*SSia and trumpet.

Perhaps there'll be demonstrations and riots there; not unusual, especially in West Berlin.

There's also boiled crawfish

They look a bit like something between a large type of langouste or a spiny lobster. The former and similar varieties are very tasty. There are a lot off the western coasts of Britain.

These are I think freshwater though. Rather than seawater. Despite not liking river fish. I'd try them.

About crustaceans in Poland, since they simply weren't in the shops a few years ago, when they appeared, they were a rather nouveau riche thing with people wanting to show off by serving the biggest ones, often with shell still on. I still see echoes of this.

In fact, apart from lobster (and even then....) crustaceans tend to be better smaller rather than larger. If you haven't tried Dublin Bay Prawns, I recommend them.

Language / Do Poles prefer US American or UK English language? [185]

It's lovely.

Most archaisms are; that's often why we choose to use them.

UK mostly seems to mostly use 'has got' for possession

Here's a tip; if anyone's doing a Cambridge language exam, they may well get extra marks for (to be) + got, rather than have. To do with coherence and register.

''He owns a great deal of patience'. Is that usage found anywhere in the B-Isles?

No, not at all, though it's heard on Aussie soaps.

And when/where id 'different to' appear? I hate that one... just sounds wrong

Quite, though it's common. Of course "from" is correct however in Standard English, "than" has started to appear, probably due to Netflix, Hollywood etc.

UK, Ireland / What English food would you serve a Pole? [172]

None, unless you count Lord Russell, Earl Grey, James Maitland and John Hampden in 1832 when we transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional country.

French breakfast.

It's certainly not a British one.
