Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

houseofnames.com/bernatowicz-family-crest

There were 5 szlachta (gentry) lines amongst the bearers of the Bernatowicz surname. None of their coats of arms look anything like what is shown by House of Names.

The clans/crests are: Aksak, Leliwa, Ostoja, Prawdzic and an own-name (Bernatowicz) one. You may view the latter at: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernatowicz

dealing with innovative solutions

I agree, maintining collieries at present is a social measure so as not to throw people out of work. I heard talk soem time ago about gasifying coal to create a cleaner-burning fuel. I wonder if work on that is still under way? Or maybe it's not economical.

investment will flood in

And foreign investment by big, rich well established Western concerns will create situations with which fledgdling Polish companies cannot compete. (IF the UE really was about helping poorer counrtesi along they would not have enacted laws prohibiting preferential treatment for domestic business.) The optimum arrangement would be one enabling Polish startup businesses to learn from foreign entrepreneurs. Not just how to sell foreign products but how to design original Polish ones under Polish brand names and how to manufacture and market them world-wide. Maybe requiring foreign investors to provide training facilties not only for their own Polish emplyoees but for Poles at large. What about requiring a Polish majority stake in any company operating in Poland?

commercially viable

So what is your prescription to make Poland innovative, entrepreneurial and commercially viable ASAP? That is something that should occupy the imagination and intellect of every true patriot. A finally free and sovereign Poland has to make up for lost time. Any suggestions?

Poland imports a lot

Precisely! Maybe this will finally will provide an incentive to spur more Polish initiaitve. Being an exporter of raw, unprocessed goods (fruit, veggies, minerals, etc.) is great for 3rd worldl countries if that's all they can do, but not for a developing economy. Perhaps it's time for some of the mercenaries employed by General Foods, Kraft, Nestlé, etc. and their Polish-based subsidiaries should take things into their own hands, set up companies and start manufacturing their own goods. That was the major error of Balzerman and all the govts of III RP since 1989 -- no promotion of Polish entrepreneurship and Polish brands, instead selling off the few brands Poland did have to foreign concerns.

At this point one expects the expat faction tol chime in claiming that's impossible, one needs loads of cpaital and finding other resasons why Poles should stay uninnovative and non-entrepreneurial and remain mercenaries in the employ of foreign capital in their country or emigrate. Too bad the anti-Polish expats lack the optimistic American can-do approach in relation to things Polish.

an instrument of enslavement

If that is true, then Heil Petru is the chief enslaver! He is surely a man to watch and beware of! This power-mad politician who self-proclaimed himself "the leader iof the opposition" has apparently become intoxicated by the shouting, chanting, placard-waving rabble KOD have dragged into the streets and gloatingly said: "Poland is now on her knees before the EU, on her knees before S&P and the złoty is also on its knees..."

He had a right to gloat and feel satsifaction because he was a major catalyst of those anti-Polish developments.
One TV commentator noted about the rating drop that S&P had ignored the TK controversy, the police law, public-media law and other PiS measures but struck after the bank tax and franc-debt issues emerged. It's the banks that rule!

Też kiedyś widziałem spis identyfikujący niemal wszstykich jako Żydów -- Wałęsę, Suchocką, Pawlaka, Mazoweickeigo, Bieleckiego, Kwaśniewskiego i wielu innych, chyba nawet Glempa. Tę fałszywkę chyba wydali michnikowcy, żeby ośmieszyć prawicę.

żadnej prawdziwej różnicy

Nieprawda! Platfusy to zbieranina eks-PZPR-owców, banksterów i innych sługusów zagraniczynch koncernów i brukselskiej eurokracji.

Kropka.

Learners of Polish are sometimes confused by the term laska which can be a skinny bird as well as what Doda was asked to do.

ludzkiej ciemnoci

Ludzka ciemnota się skończyła 25 października, kiedy Platfusom odebrano prawa do wciskania Polakom ściemy. To oni gardłowali niby w obronie TK a sami zlekceważyli kilkanaście orzeczeń Trybunału. To oni robili naloty na redakcje i mieszkania dzeinnikarzy w związku z aferą taśmową. To Tusk obiecywał, że nie podniesie podatków, a wkrótce potem zwiększył VAT. To znów obiecywał elektrownię jądrową i kastrowanie pedofili i nic. To PO w biały dzień zrobiła skok na OFE.... Przykłady można by mnożyć, ale po co? Plateformersom i innym obrońcom koryta pozostały skandy, bluzgi i dreptanie w śniegu.

Derdau

If your dad was Polish, chances are the name was Derda or its variant Dyrda. They come from the dialectal verb derdać or dyrdać which means to walk at a brisk pace.

didn't post this one

SO what does this one mean, since you're the know-all poll interpreter?
PiS - 39%
Petru - 22%
PO - 13%
Kukiz - 9%

Besides, CBOS is Poland's biggest and most reliable pollster, The one you cited was from tabloid Fakty.

worse in the home of the BigMac

I certainly don't relish more Polish US-aping in the field of financial stratificaton as well as the wow! culture, fly-by-night fads, rap crap, junk food, drugs, homo marriage, guns, abortion of demand and a slew of others. But I would love to see Polish CEOs taking voluntary pay cuts to demonstrate the corporate social conscience and set a good example for other countries.

guy at the top

No-one is saying a CEO shouild earn4 or 5 or even 10K considering his overall responsibility for the company. But in Poland a CEO of a firm employing 500 people can earn over 40,000 zł a month. That is indecently high. Wouldn't 25 or even 20K be enough for him to live in the lap of luxury?

You seem overly concerned about ther salaries of "poor" CEOs whilst ignoring the multitudes who have trouble making ends meet.

'obscene' profits

They are obscene! Care to list what the CEOs of foreign banks, corporations, assembly operations, etc. earn? Is it merely the 3 to 5 times more that West Europeans make compared with Poles? I think not. The banks are grumbling becuase of an infinitesimal tax in the 0.00-something% catgory. They can certainly afford to minutely reduce their outrageous priofit margin without passing that on to customers. Even those greedy bastards must have at least a little speck of civic spirit and willingness to support the common good.

Temadawa

In Polish it would be spelt: Temu dała, temu dała i do nieba się dostała. Kokoszka is hen.
Not familiar with that one, but the "temu dała" motif is quite common in children's songs. Probably the most common (the teller makes a circular motion in the child's palm as if stir-cooking something): Tu myszka gotowała kaszkę -- temu dała (on each of the fingers except the pinky), temu dała, temu dała a temu łebek urwała i fru-fru-fru poleciala.

nternal investment is impossible.

At present. The quesiton is: are Poels doomed to remain an exploited neo-collonial country for allt ime? Why did previous governmet neglect to work towards building an indigenous Polish entrepreneurial class and settled instead for internal mercenary status?

Poland needs external investment

Yes, but not external exploitation, Cheap or free industrial sites and cheap manpower have turned Poles into mercenary hirelings in their own country. Poles assembling foreign-designed and foreign-manufactured components. Supermarket cashiers fortced to wear Pampers because they're not allowed to take loo breaks. Foreign companies channelling the bulk of their Polish-earned profits abroad and re-investing in Poland only the very bare minimum needed for the business to keep ticking. Is that style of being "market-friendly" is what you want to continue indefinitely? The KOD leadership want things to remain precisely as described above. Foreign banks and corporations should rule and Poles should be grateful for the dead-end jobs they're given.

Poland needs to develop their own entrepreneurship, original designs and brands. The new government has set up a body to promote innovation. Perhaps that will help move things in that direction. And foreign banks and retail chains should be required to pay their fair share of taxes. They have certainly extracted enough cash from Poland over the past 26 years!

those tens of thousands

Those tens of thousands of ordinary men and women from all parts of Polish society who still haven't realised they are being used by disentitled elites to create the false impression that the Polish people are mainly concerned about the interests of banksters, foreign retail chains and post-nomenklatura types pushed away from the trough. Goes to show how cleverly phrased high-sounding pro-demcoracy rhetoric can gull, seduce and delude.

"dragged" into spontaneously supporting Poland

They are dragged into it deluded that somehow all the noisy chanting and ranting defends demcoracy. If they knew they were actually defending the interests of a small nomenklatura/bankster elite, their ranks would quickly thin. One has to hand it to the trough-defenders' leadership -- they're good at persuasively effective propaganda. But so was Hitler and Stalin.

It's the leaders of the trough defenders that are scared. They cna see it will soon increasignly difficult to drag people into the streets and have them spend their Saturday day off ranting, chanting and pounding the pavement. The more so that the wheels of governmnet continue to turn apace totally unaffected by the rabble-rousers.
