In one sense, you are right Atch - AI is software but I wouldn't say "just software". If we look at things like expert systems, neural networks or even simple generative/language models like Chat GPT, these things have potential to make our lives easier but can also, potentially, be quite dangerous if misused, so I wouldn't dismiss them with "oh, it's just another - a bit more complicated - 'Hello, World' program".

Roman Dmowski, one of the fathers of Polish independence, spent the final months of his life in a lovely country manor of Niklewicz family in Drozdowo near Łomża. In the photo we see him accompanied by Maria Niklewiczowa (a poet and author of children literature). Dmowski died on 2nd January 1939 and was spared the sight of Poland's fall.

And yet the Soviet Union (i.e. Russia on steroids) fell miserably into a hundred pieces, so maybe (just maybe) the brutalizing tactics wasn't the most efficient.

And anyways, I don't think it's an exactly accurate description of Russia's/Soviet Union's approach to their vassals. If we look at European conduct in their African colonies or the brutality of Third Reich, Russians seem almost benevolent in comparison.

So maybe it was the other way around? Maybe you were too soft?
