Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [580]

HEY!

:)

I wonder if Ukraine gets to host an Eurovision after there is peace, to make up for the one they had to give away now....and if Russians will then be invited again...

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [580]

however in a weird way all the Eurokitsch and barely supressed camp grows on you.

*laughs*

It's like the thing everybody openly denies but secretly enjoys....

The 66th Eurovision Song Contest from Turin, Italy reached 161 million people over the 3 live shows in 34 measured markets. The reach of the Contest in those territories was up 7 million year on year.*

eurovision.tv/story/eurovision-2022-161-million-viewers

The Contest once again proved hugely popular with younger audiences. ...

And the outcome of a country's singer is a hot topic for the news next day, if won or again "zero points", but of course nobody has seen it because "too boring" and "kitsch", right? Right!

It's the same everywhere, heh:)

UK, Ireland / Poland will be wealthier than Britain by 2030 [45]

I wonder how Poland will go about the consequences of such status...like the masses of immigrants, looking for work and wealth!

Will be interesting to watch the shoe on the other foot....

News / Life and work of Stepan Bandera - controversial figure of Europe [42]

Galician Ukrainians were known as the "Tyroleans of the East."

Well....what a mess! If that description holds true then I come to think Ukraine will have to split....as did the Tyroleans. They will have to get their autonomous region at least if there should be ever any peace. Russians will have to get used to that....and Ukrainians have to leave their russian part....

I see no other way!

Thanks, that was very detailed, but I rather meant the connections....as between Germans and Austrians....you know? Wars and different countries and all, we are still familiar, sharing the same ethnicity, language, lots of history, heritage, culture etc.

And you called the Ukrainians even closer than that....that means for me that Bandera won't have treated the Russians/Poles the same as Germans did the Jews for example, you know what I mean? Not the ethnicity but the nationality....a huge difference.

As he fighted the Russians, didn't he then rather fight the stalinist oppressors? And can't you blame him?

Germans are organized, we are disorganized. Germans are pedantic, while we paint with a broad stroke. Germans are hard workers,

....I like these stereotypes too, but they aren't realistic anymore...sadly....

If you believe that Slavs are a separate race from other white people, then yes.

Okay....total numbnut here! :) Help me out....

Comparing to Germans/Austrians where stand the slavic people, meaning Ukrainians/Poles/Russians?

Easy words please... :)

He allied himself with the most murderous regime in human history.

....yeah well....so did Stalin, for a while....

His mission was a Ukraine free of Russians, Poles, Jews and Gypsies.

....that I don't understand....the nationalities? Aren't the Ukrainians the same ethnicity as Russians and Poles??? Didn't you call them cousins or brothers once?

What is the problem here?

Stalin killed MILLIONS for Russia...to fight enemies, russian and foreign....he is still a hero for many Russians....and Ukrainians aren't allowed to have a hero doing everything, even deals with the devil, for his peoples and country's independence too?

As far as I know Bandera wasn't even in the same league as any other mass murderer of that time...most in the West even never heard of him....could someone explain?

News / EU, Germany, Euros and Poland. [54]

I've got nothing against a strong and wealthy Poland....really not. Especially as things right now don't look so good in Germany, for Germany....it would be nice to have someone else shouldering more of the burden....

But I guess if it should come to that....a real change of the "pecking order"...some Poles might say they don't need the EU and would be better off alone, just to avoid to have now to pay more in the common bucket as they get out of it, totally ignoring the help they got over the decades....

Am I right?

such as a Polish-German divide.

it is questioning its role in the pecking order."

...only when Poland starts paying Germany the billions it gets till now from the EU pockets.

Seriously, why do you forget all this always? Without the EU and mainly german money Poland would still look like Ukraine....that's not only not fair but can also lead to dangerously wrong conclusions!

Since 2004, Poland has received over 232 billion euros from the European Union budget. During this period, membership payments to the EU budget amounted to over 77 billion euros. The most significant net inflows were in 2020 and amounted to around 13.16 billion euros, including reimbursements to the EU budget of 958.3 thousand euros.

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [625]

We Germans LOVE our history! Seriously....we are being the BEST at remembrance, nobody does it better than us....

I just wish we would use the memory for a better future....I mean, look at the photos....that's Steinmeier.....one of the biggest supporters of Nordstream....totally disregarding polish actual wishes and needs and warnings...but he does great speeches at those times, doesn't he....

Or a much easier reason? Stettin is for Germans just that much easier to pronounce as such a tonguebreaker without vowels as the polish version....;)

The same with Warschau or Danzig...i's more a language thing...but Szcscheczin takes the crown!
