News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [957]

Dredging the bottom of the barrel in comparison to what is happening in Europe at the moment.

Not really. Had that bomb gone off, it would have killed for certain, and maimed quite a few others.

Don't try and downplay it. The guy who wanted to blow up the Sejm would also have caused a horrific death toll had he succeeded.

Do you consider PO/or/and its associates - right wing? Interesting.

Strange that you would ignore the bus attack by a Korwin-Mikke lover.

I'm not saying poland is 100% safe but compared to other countries including western Europe overall violent crime and victimization rates are lower.

I seem to remember that one issue is that reporting rates are much lower in Poland, so whereas someone in Sweden would be quick to report an assault, in Poland, the same victim would face all sorts of issues with reporting it, especially if it's at the hands of the spouse.

Of course, we shouldn't ignore the issues elsewhere - I'm very much in favour of a "zero tolerance" approach to non-EU citizens and crime. Having said that, the majority of the trouble caused by darker-skinned people in PL seems to be Italians and Spanish guys molesting Polish women rather than Arabs or otherwise.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

I predict most of those cars are leases and not outright purchases though.

There's no sense in buying a new car in PL outright, because leasing deals are so damned competitive. My friend got a new leased Lexus for 4 years, with a 40,000km yearly limit, no deposit and payments are only 1% of the cost of the car monthly. They cover everything except fuel, so there's zero point in owning a car if you have a business, especially as the tax system is so friendly towards leased cars.

how much of domestic terrorism have you seen in Poland for the last two years?

The lunatic who tried to blow up a bus in Wrocław, the guy who wanted to blow up the Sejm, etc etc.

Right wing terrorism is a real danger in Poland, even to the point where other European intelligence agencies consider the Polish far right as potential terrorists.

You'll see months years whatever from now Poland's GDP will continue to grow and we won't have the problems of terrorism, assaults on women, etc.

It's been said elsewhere, but the danger in Poland is domestic terrorism, not to mention the outdated attitudes towards women. PiS are about to put a judge in the Constitutional Tribunal who said that domestic violence doesn't exist - so just because a woman isn't getting assaulted by a stranger doesn't mean she's safe in Poland.

pinnacle of the electric-car pyramid, combining elegant design, stunning acceleration, and excellent safety ratings in a single package

Doesn't mean much. I've driven one, and while electronically, it's a great car, it was lacking many of the finishing touches that make a real luxury car. The seats in particular weren't much better than my VW, and certainly nothing compared to brands like Audi or Lexus.

Because we never get real, convincing answers

I'm not sure there is a convincing answer. The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and law abiding, yet it's clear that there are some major issues (particularly regarding child protection and radicalisation) that middle class social workers are unable to deal with.

Not really. A common complaint among Tesla owners is the poor finishing and quality of the cars. I certainly wouldn't call them luxury.

the Eurp's are one size up from a beer can.

Clearly never been to Europe, have you?

In 2014 Tesla sold a grand total of eight cars in Poland.

You can get a cracking deal on a Tesla in Poland, simply because Tesla's presence in Poland is minimal.

Not really, and especially not EU nationals. That was the point.

Exactly. People forget that the vast majority of terrorism in Europe is carried out by EU citizens, and has been that way for many, many years.

The fact is that communist rule which lasted 44 years meant no-one really could move to Poland and few could leave.

Poor show, Bieganski. There's a member of PF that moved to Poland then, for a start.

As for "Few could leave", clearly you aren't aware of just how many left. Over 250,000 left in a 4 year period in the late 1950's for a start, and similar numbers left in the early 1970's. Stick to Canada, my friend.

Poland will be able to preserve its homogeneous society

The truth is that the only thing that preserved the homogeneous society for 44 years was the fact that no-one really wanted to move to Poland in the first place.

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [582]

Lyzko should take the time now to tell the forum where he learned his hatred of Poles from.

He doesn't hate Poles. Among all the North Americans on this forum, Lzyko has by far the greatest knowledge of this country.

He really ought to stick to fantasy share dealing, because it's clear that his knowledge of the European EV market is zero.

Tesla can't even turn a profit on their existing operations, why the hell would the Polish government invest in them?

Musk's business model all along has been to extract large subsidies from a very gullible American government who was desperate to see another domestic "success story".

- Cars are manufactured by hundreds of companies with vastly more manufacturing experience than Tesla.

Which is why the Polish government has no interest in subsidising an unproven company.

Tesla are pretty much minor players in Europe.

Travel / Why do you visit Poland? [223]

Excellent, I'll try and head down there some weekend.

I tried to visit Zakopane a few weeks ago, got stuck in a traffic jam and went to enjoy myself in Slovakia instead.

I prefer the Swietokrzyskie hills much more than Zakopane.

Have you ever been to the "Park Krajobrazowy Orlich Gniazd"?

It looks like a really nice place.

Law / Uber in Poland - illegal [28]

The infamous 'surge pricing'.

There's an article here from the truly wonderful Christian Science Monitor about it - csmonitor.com/Technology/2015/1030/Why-Uber-s-surge-pricing-doesn-t-work-quite-as-expected- in short, it's a nice idea that doesn't work in practice.

News / Poles say a big YES to our European Union [957]

It's a simple yes or no

Yes, it's a binary choice, and 88% chose the option that involves the EU.

Poles may not like some elements of the EU, but you'll struggle to find anyone that is happy with everything that the EU offers, which is normal. I loathe the CAP, for instance.

At least in Poland as far as I know, drivers are obliged to have insurance that covers the passengers.

The Polish government plan to build one million electric cars. It was one of the first things they announced, and a competition is currently underway to produce the design.

The infrastructure will also be developed as part of the plan. Those of us living in Poland know about such plans.

According to a strict definition of the law, it's illegal. User are covering legal expenses for drivers caught, however.

It's the same all over Poland. Charging points are quite commonly available in cities, and the Polish government is encouraging their construction.

These things are well known to anyone that spends any time in Poland.

with 1 link I've just destroyed all your narration here.

Except that's not the answer to the question being asked.

You can dream all you want of things going back to the good old days when your parents enjoyed large amounts of privileges from their Soviet friendship, but the straight answer to the straight question is that 88% of Poles support membership of the EU.

By the way, it's a pity that you use words like "savages". One can easily find similar propaganda online about Poles.

88% want to milk this crap till there's still some money left in it.

No, they want to stay in it full stop. They're not saying "yes, but...", they're simply saying yes, no matter how hard Russian-sponsored types try.

I love you Crowie, seriously :D

And it's a perfectly valid point. Plenty of mouths to feed, and not enough money to go round. In fact, the failure of PiS to negotiate a good settlement for the next budget might well hurt them. Even if they win the 2019 election, going into 2020-2023 with barely any money from the EU could ruin them.

You haven't got a clue how things work, because you've been pushing that tired old myth on here for years and the trend is against you. The reality is that if you ask people a straight question, you get a straight answer. That straight answer is that Poles are overwhelmingly in favour of the EU, no matter what some Russian-supporting internet lovers want.

The whole concept that there's some conflict between Russia and EU is pure nonsense.

There bloody well should be a conflict. Keeping Russia out of the EU should be the EU's #1 goal, especially with the amount of appeasers in Poland who would quite happily have the Russians return.
