News / Food producers from Poland should stop suffering from obliged sanctions against Russia [75]

Being against Russia doesn`t necessarily means to be pro-Polish

In the current climate of Russian aggression, in order to be pro-Poland, any government needs to stand up to Russia as well as forge stronger links with the rest of the EU and NATO..

In numerous areas we see how is Poland betrayed by `its own` government.

Nope, in none at all.

is obliged to tell truth to the Poles

Probably one of the best informed populations in Europe...

Let`s not talk of `Russian bullying`

Why? It has been an issue in Poland for a long, long time and is continuing now.

Right now regime in Poland endangering future of entire Slavic civilization.

Don't be silly. BTW, after the forthcoming election, it looks like there may well be a government in Poland who are even more anti-Russia.

News / Nazi gold train 'found in Poland' [90]

Indeed. This does happen and is sad. The article talks about old German Graves - I wonder what the injured grave robbers actually hoped to find in there - perhaps wedding rings.

There's some precedent for this in Poland - Red Army soldiers in 1920 opened Polish graves looking for jewellery, among them the grave of Stanislaw August.

I suspect the article might be unrelated to the 'gold train' - especially if it's a wartime grave; any burial at that time is likely to be without valuables.

I doubt it's intended to be evidence; just an illustration for the sake of it. I notice that the police statement doesn't mention the names. Although this is usual, it will sadly stop the graverobber winning this year's Darwin Award.

We can expect treasure hunters. The question is whether or not this was really inspired by the mystery train or whether there are people in Poland who are robbing graves anyway.

We can expect more of this sort of stuff. Isn't there a video game called tomb raider?

Treasure-hunter obsessed by search for Nazi gold in Polish town dies after falling into a tomb he thought was packed with loot

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

Po3, judging by the number of links you post, you can obviously use google as well as many, however to save your valuable time, have a look at these:

the artist has been instrumental in driving the controversy

Far from it. I wonder why you even think I said that? Her installation has however certainly received a massive amount of positive publicity - no bad thing. It's easy to forget that plac Zbawiciela was the third location for it and it had already been in Brussels - so huge the publicity has been (worldwide) about it while it was in the city centre.

have the LGBT movement

There isn't one single 'movement' as such who, no single spokesperson who can speak on behalf of everyone. Just a few not for profit organisations with specific remits and a few businesses. Not that I've ever heard Julita Wójcik described by anyone as being particularly 'self-serving'.

don't belong

Indeed. Lawyers, international courts, historians and precedent are responsible for returning any items with traceable owners. Anything else belongs to the state.

The final result being two ideologies stripping art for political gain. Which is so Polish...

Bingo. But no ideological reaction on the part of any organised LGBT movement which has priorities elsewhere. All the fuss has been entirely aside from that and the artist has absolutely loved the media attention. I do wonder what Gombrowicz would have made of it all.

All in all, the installation has been a great success.

News / Nazi gold train 'found in Poland' [90]

The story indeed grows. If there's something down there, it'll be fascinating. If there's nothing down there, well, the chase is often as good as the kill:

Mile-long tunnel is discovered by treasure hunters in search for Nazi gold train in Poland using a 90-year-old railway map

the LGBT community adopted the artwork

I'd say the people of the city took it to their hearts.

On that bassis the artwork was never a representatin of sexual equality or gay rights, all those who suggest other are trolling.

Yes, absolutely. Sadly some of the homophobes here seem to think it was. The Polish Rainbow is more an optimistic symbol of hope, inclusivity and diversity.

Life / What is the cost of living per month for a single expat in Warsaw? [19]

In Warsaw the median salary id]s 4 something - that includes wages for the very young and people in very basic low-paid jobs. Remember someone on 4000 would not be well off at all, especially if they have a family to support. You wouldn't really find that many places to rent that are worth living in with a family and are easily commutable from for under 2000 - in fact thousands of people travel in from cheaper smaller towns and/or are overcrowded with not enough rooms (often someone has to sleep in the living room of their flat).

A lot of people depend on credit, have support from their families and/or have to live very carefully indeed.

For a single person like the OP, 4000 still wouldn't be great even if he tolerates a room in a shared flat or a long travel to work. 7500 (especially if net) is much better - that's just about comfortable but very far from well-off.

Nope, Po3. The siting of the Polish Rainbow by the Adam Mickiewicz Foundation was and is a very serious thing and though you may pretend it's 'trolling' the rolling out of the idea is deadly serious and the second Rainbow will be an asset to Warsaw. As far as I know, the maquette plus CGI images are due to be displayed again - lets go and have a look and you can buy me a drink at the same time by way of an apology for the accusation of 'trolling'.

News / Let's protest censorship in Poland's mainstream media! [90]

Agreed, Shaman. It's an old paradox that in order to have freedom there must also be restrictions and this is very. True about the media. By the way, using the phrase 'mainstream media', especially if abbreviated to 'MSM', is a dead giveaway that the person who uses it has a tin foil helmet at home.

I'm worried about the negative attention that the rainbow might attract. the Polish Rainbow in plac Zbawiciela kept getting burnt down by pond dwellers however it was in a smaller Square with people around night and day. This one is in a fairly classy area but is more vulnerable. So far it's stayed fairly under the radar, just one petition that nobody took any notice of, plus a Facebook page. But it doesn't take much to set the moherowe berety off.

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

A BA degree in Poland is known as a Licencjat

No. The UK has licentiate degrees as well.
In terms of hours of study and academic attainment a Polish Magister degree is rather like a BA from a traditional British university.
