News / Poles start to feel arrogant and superior to Southern Europeans [182]

Write in Google "Polacy są jak Francuzi".

I did and nothing like that comes up... Where did you hear that Poles are being compared to the French?

not that recreational use of beneficial herbs is a bad thing

I think you know that's not what I was talking about.

As I say, it's often like being in a Time Machine.

It's not always a bad thing :)))

You will never take mine, and i will certainly never stand on your position.

So, you will never acknowledge, for example, that NKVD perpetrated the Katyń massacre on the order of Stalin?

That is why only military strength matters.

Wow, that's an Eastern mentality if I see one:

SamiSwoi

We have it, and you dont.

We're working on that :D

No, however I do feel sad sometimes when I'm in small town Poland and see the amount of vodka on sale in the poorest places.

You're right, Poland has still some catching up to do in order to reach the UK level of drug abuse and become more "Western" thanks to this :)))

the attitudes here are those of 40 years ago

Do you mean of 40 years ago in Poland or in the West?

@Alien, I watched once on YouTube a reaction video of an American guy watching "Geography Now: Poland" and while watching it he concluded that if Germany and RuSSia had a child it would be Poland lol It cracked me up, but in a way he was right. I don't think we have an entirely "Western mentality" - we're in between Western and Eastern, imho.

saved us from Russification and also from Germanization.

Nope, being Polish saved us from both :)))))

@ConstantineK, you must mean RuSSian historical education. I don't know about all people in the world, but I defenitely know about serious, big gaps in historical education in RuSSia. Not only that - you people falsify history. Falsifying history seems to be a sickening RuSSian tradition already.

Don't be sorry, anyone needs his or her prejudices

I think it's pretty obvious that he isn't sorry at all :))) He probably thinks he's being all "polite and not clumsy" by saying how sorry he is ;D

I would say that English in general like to flaunt their xenophobic urges

I'm not even sure if he's English/British or if he really met that many Poles... He just wrote too much nonsense. I mean, I realise that British people can be stupid and prejudiced too, but it looks like he's making stuff up.

For example:

Almost all Poles I met claimed Poland was a Western country, which is quite bizzare

It is bizzare indeed, because I live in Poland and I've never met a Pole who would claim that :) I myself was taught at school that Poland is a Central European country.

If that is taught in Russia, there need to be some material presented, right?

You mean like for the claim that the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was a "fascist revolt organised by the West"?? :D What kind of "material" they can possibly present for that? ;D

Where have you been, BB?:

News / Polish Parliamentary Elections 2023 [933]

Why would they?

Because they want their share in power and access to koryto. Duh!

demotywatory.pl/5207492/Zgadnijcie-kto-stal-z-pisowskimi-oficjelami-na-paradzie

Agrounia, a large chunk of PSL (remember all the drama with Małgorzata Zych?)

You'd have to give me some sources for that, because Małgorzata Zych is just one person.

Really, Poland is not such a Ukraine-supporting monolith as some people try to picture it and as PiS is trying to convince us.

That would be understandable considering our difficult history - there isn't going to be 100% monolith. But as for being pro-RuSSian (as in pro-Putin's RuSSia) - that's a tiny minority in Poland, imho.

PO and the ruskis are scared to do any belarus border attacks

You are sick in the head.

They won't form a coalition with them

I think they will. I remember seeing Bosak in the first row on the honorary tribune during the parade on Polish Army Day. He seemed to be very pleased to be there.

No. They just don't want Poland to be a vassal state of Ukraine.

No, it's not only that - they're anti-Ukrainian and pro-RuSSian:

Language / Ethnic backround of suffixes of Polish surnames [54]

I can't find a surname suffix of my Polish family anywhere

That's because it isn't a "suffixed" surname. It's a Polish surname which means "heir", "successor" or "squire" (one of the meanings of "dziedzic" is 'a man of high social standing who owns and lives on an estate in a rural area, especially the chief landowner in such an area' - squire) :)

geographical region called Dziedzice

Not a geographical region, but a part of a city that used to be a village. There are also a few villages with this name in Poland.

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

@Alien, my impression is that "pierniczyć" is milder than "pieprzyć" and "pierdolić" is, of course, the strongest. Still, "pierniczyć" isn't something to be used in every setting.

what is the meaning of piernicze!

It has more than one meaning - it depends on the context.

For example, it can mean to talk nonsense or to bullsh1t someone: "Pierniczysz!" ("You talk nonsense!" or "You're bullsh1tting!").

An exclamation "Ja pierniczę!" means something like: "Holy moly!"

You could say it's a mild version of "pieprzyć" and "pierdolić", so you can use it as a substitute if you don't want to sound too vulgar.

History / Historical look at various civilisational differences between Russia and the West [159]

You only asked about their political attitudes, whether they were liberal or putinist.

Yes, because that's crucial. RuSSians/RuSSians' views on history usually depend on their political views.

I suppose most of them were somewhere in between

You "suppose"? So you don't even know that? Sorry, but those were some sh1tty discussions you were having then.

As for watching the video - I really can't watch all the videos posted here.

This video is 10 minutes long.
And no matter how "naive" you think that guy is - he checked all the RuSSian history textbooks, both old and new, and there's no mention of the Katyń massacre in any of them. He also showed a fragment of a textbook with instructions for teachers how they "should" teach certain stuff to RuSSian kids.

Also, there is a huge difference between how people talk and interact in the real life compared to internet boards.

That's true, people are more honest on the internet.

The way certain events are interpreted and presented depends very much on those relations.

It's not just about interpretations - in RuSSian schools even facts aren't being taught.

Believe what you want.

Hey, I can only see what I see. You didn't answer what kind of RuSSians/RuSSians you've discussed with. Is that a secret?

I will.

Thanks, but it would be even better if you watched that video.

history, politics

So have you only discussed with liberal, anti-Putinist, pro-democratic, pro-Western Russians? Because you give me a strong impression of someone living in some kind of fantasy La La Land.

People are people, Paulina.

People in Nazi Germany were "people" too, so give me a break.

Putin condemning Ribbentrop-Molotov pact in Westerplatte.

As I wrote - this clearly didn't reach RuSSian minds and schools.

Btw, did you watch that video I posted?

when Poland knew how to conduct foreign policies.

Historical truth shouldn't depend on your relations with other countries. And teaching facts may actually improve relations between countries. Knowledge is power. Maybe that's why the Kremlin doesn't want RuSSians to know the real history between RuSSia and it's neighbours - it wouldn't be so easy to manipulate the RuSSian society then and set it against RuSSia's neighbours and the West.

I don't know about "putinist Russians"

Clearly...
Kania, I meant to ask you - have you ever discussed with RuSSians about anything else besides Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky and solyanka? o_O

but Vladimir Putin himself talked about the "immoral character" of Ribbentrop Molotov pact...

I guess this speech didn't reach RuSSia then and was meant for outsiders (Poles in this case).

The same was with Katyń. Putin was saying nice stuff, Medvedev gave some Katyń files to Komorowski, but the Katyń massacre somehow never reached RuSSian schools.

This Russian guy only learned about Katyń massacre when he came to Poland and he talks about how history is taught (or rather not taught) in RuSSia:

News / Does Poland support the idea of Slavic unity? [142]

To me it makes more sense to worry about the Germans.

Weird, because to me it makes more sense to worry about RuSSia.

Who did they chose to go to war against? Again - it was the WORLD!

No, in their minds it was a war against Poland. Only later it turned into World War.

In a perverse way, Atch, this is proof of how well unification had gone for them)

So you want to partition Germany... again?
