Off-Topic / Has Palestine ever existed? [70]

So, the situation looks like this - communist Poland recognized the Palestinian Declaration of Independence issued by the Palestinian National Council in Algiers in 1988:

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine%E2%80%93Poland_relations

In the link which you provided it is stated that:

"Palestinian authorities adopted the Polish position from 1988 and consider it to be still in force. Accordingly, the Palestinian authority did not expect Poland to reconfirm its adoption."

So, is the PRL position from 1988 also the position of today's Poland?

Poland had an opportunity to reconfirm the PRL position from 1988, but it didn't do it:

euractiv.com/section/global-europe/news/eu-divided-in-un-vote-on-palestine-s-status/

"The 193-nation UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved, the de-facto recognition of the sovereign state of Palestine. Fourteen EU countries voted in favour, 12 abstained and only the Czech Republic joined the United States and Israel in opposing the move."

Poland was neither in favour nor against. Poland was one of those 12 EU countries that abstained.

Btw, this is me "caving easily to Zionist shaming tactics" lol:

Poland still recognizes and interacts with Palestine as a state.

If that's the case then why such info in this article?:

wnet.fm/2020/02/17/czesc-krajow-ue-uzna-niepodleglosc-panstwa-palestyny-tego-obawia-sie-izraelska-administracja/

"The remaining countries, like Poland among others, maintain diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Authority, but don't recognize it as an independent state."

Which showed nearly 30% (a third of the country!) still didn't want to live there.

And that's a minority. Majority wants to stay.

You don't know.

I do.

You only feel and your stance on this matter shows how you, as a "strong and independent woman", caved in easily to Zionist shaming tactics

You're talking nonsense :)))

will result in the creation of a Palestinian state

And until that happens Poland doesn't recognize Palestine as an independent state.

You complain that a poll taken within the last 10 years isn't credible

Don't make stuff up.
I didn't claim that it isn't credible. It's simply not up to date anymore. That's why I posted results of a poll from 2023.

Like I said, you don't know what you are talking

I do know.

In other words, you don't know what you are talking about.

What I know is that you were wrong, because Poland doesn't recognize Palestine as an independent state.

Great, just give them all their land back.

It's not mine to give.

haaretz.com/2012-12-15/ty-article/.premium/bye-the-beloved-country/0000017f-f0ba-dc28-a17f-fcbf3f920000

This poll is from 2012. How about a more recent one?:

timesofisrael.com/28-of-israelis-considering-leaving-the-country-amid-judicial-upheaval-poll/

"The Channel 13 poll found that 28% of respondents were weighing a move abroad, 64% were not, and 8% were unsure"

So, a majority wants to stay.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

Not some sentimentalism but pragmatism

You sound like a RuSSian. 🤢

the premises on which government agencies are supposed to act

ABW did their job, which is, among others, finding and arresting spies. You don't know anything about this case, so I don't understand how you can comment on it with such arrogance. 🤨

Why would they arrest her

So her spying wouldn't be hurting the people she was spying on any longer?

Should be put under surveillance that could lead to something substantial in the future.

We don't know how long she was under surveillance and whether there was any hope for getting anything more out of this in the future.

A Belarusian woman has been arrested by ABW (Internal Security Agency) in Poland for spying on her compatriots:

Wow, really?

Yeah, really. Again - have you been living under a rock? o_O

No, you're lying.

Excuse me?? lol:

washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/what-do-palestinians-want

"Further, most Palestinians believe that a two-state solution is unlikely to emerge from the conflict. Instead, a majority of them say they prefer to reclaim all of historic Palestine, including the pre-1967 Israel."

Ukrainians are all about stealing someone else's history

Or maybe RuSSians are doing that? :)

because they don't have any of their own.

This is simply not true.

Palestinians do not do that.

How do you know what they claim? As far as I know many of them want Israel to cease to exist.

Off-Topic / Has Palestine ever existed? [70]

Too bad Paulina was not around back then to advise them.

I'm not advising anything. I'm just stating a fact. Btw, RuSSians like to stress that there was no Ukrainian state in the past and how Ukrainians aren't "a real nation", and how Ukrainian is a "fake" language, etc., so it's funny to see what different attitude you have towards Palestinians :)))

Yeah, it's just that the opportunities for this were rare to present themselves.

You could say the same thing about Ukrainians - being under the rule of either Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth/Poland or RuSSian empire/the Soviet Union :)

Yeah, because they lived there for 3,000+ years.

They haven't created a country of their own though. There was no particular nation of "Palestinians" in the past either.

That's a pretty good claim!

I have no problem with their claim. They should have their own country if they're so hell-bent on it.

Off-Topic / Has Palestine ever existed? [70]

Yeah, and the ancestors of modern Jews helped destroy it after it existed for barely more than a century.

It doesn't matter. Poloniusz claimed that there was no country of Israel before 1948, which isn't true.

If modern Jews can claim Israel, then Palestinians can claim

Palestinians already claim the lands on which they're living, in case you haven't noticed.

even Poland recognizes Palestine.

No, it doesn't:

wnet.fm/2020/02/17/czesc-krajow-ue-uzna-niepodleglosc-panstwa-palestyny-tego-obawia-sie-izraelska-administracja/

"The remaining countries, like Poland among others, maintain diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Authority, but don't recognize it as an independent state."

As far as I understand Poland is a supporter of the two-state solution and of independence aspirations of Palestinians though.

Nor was there any real country of Israel before 1948.

There was. Long ago, but there was.

Wow - I like this Poloniusz guy!

I'm not surprised - he has a problem with sticking to facts, just like you :))

Life / Cult videos on Polish youtube [18]

Part 2 (physical exam for joining SOP) :

Ah, sorry, that's a physical ability test for WZS (Wydział Zabezpieczeń Specjalnych), so a more advanced level - you have to be already a member of SOP in order to get into that department. The American equivalent would be Counter-Assault Team from Secret Service or Mobile Security Division ("Ninja's") from US Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service (DSS).

Life / Cult videos on Polish youtube [18]

These aren't cult videos, but quite interesting - I personally haven't seen such content on Polish YouTube before - this YouTuber Ajthepolishamerican spends 24h or 48h in various Polish uniformed units and films his experiences (all videos are in Polish).

POLISH SECRET SERVICE

Here AJ spent 48h at Polish Secret Service - he and his friend went through a basic physical ability test, physical qualification exam for SOP (Służba Ochrony Państwa - State Protection Service), they were shown how to protect VIPs and witnessed some impressive driving skills by SOP agents (they tried it themselves too).

It was the first time an outsider Youtuber was allowed inside to film some of their training:

Part 1 (physical ability test, some training and driving):

Part 2 (physical exam for joining SOP) :

COUNTERTERRORISTS

AJ also spent one day at a Polish counterterrorist unit in Warsaw going through a physical ability exam for joining such a unit. He didn't read about it and didn't prepare for it in order to have 100% surprise :) Normally, if there were more candidates, it would last from 8 am to 8 pm, but since it was only him - it was shorter (12 hours, I think). As far as I remember he didn't pass only one element. The funniest part of the exam was the so called "test zbroi" (armour test) lol 🐕‍🦺💩 After a few days AJ concluded that this exam was enough to give him a bit of PTSD lol

PART 1:

PART 2:

PARATROOPERS

AJ spending 48 hours as a Polish paratrooper - physical ability test, visiting a cave with cute bats where only one person died :), jumping with a parachute from an airplane, fighting in trenches, etc.:

PART 1:

PART 2:

I think those videos are actually a good way to promote those units and to encourage potential candidates to join :)

The rest of videos (police, Navy, etc.) you can find on his channel.

History / Pol-Shorpy Photo Thread [950]

Mamert Wandali

I don't want to be a party pooper, but this guy was an impostor. In 2005 it turned out that at the time when the January Uprising broke out he was only 8 years old. I'm guessing that he lied not only for respect and prestige - as a January Uprising veteran he got a house for free.

The rest of the guys in that photo are real veterans though :)

Great photos.

Yes, awesome stuff.

I realise this thread is a bit uneven.

This is a great thread! I'm checking it out with interest. Thanks for running it :)

now get this - Udmurtia

Life / Polish people and TV Series - so good and hilariously spot on :) [99]

Really? On what?

A quote from one of the articles I linked to:

"1670 is a brilliant satire on Polish mentality. Not only on the Sarmatian one, but also contemporary."

If it was music I would say it is dico-polo.

Not all of the jokes are maybe of the highest level, but there's enough of some spot on and clever stuff to make it worth a watch, imho. I haven't seen all the episodes yet and the ones I've seen - I watched them when I was really sick with a nasty cold, so I'll wait with a final opinion until I watch all of them.

But even the idea in itself for those TV series is great and something new and fresh (at least as far as Polish productions are concerned) :)

The one about New Year's Eve is a promotional video, but here you have a fragment from the actual TV series:

It is of course a reference to the way Polish politicians behave during political debates on TV (the immortal "Ja Panu nie przerywałem!" lol).

@Mr Grunwald, that's the part of the humour of "1670", the references to our times make these TV series funny and relatable. For example, here you have a reference to fireworks and firecrackers scaring dogs (and other animals) on New Year's Eve:

Life / Poland's birthrate on the decline [480]

Sure, sure as you are in denial as you are only a woman and know nothing about anything. lol!

So why were you raised by your grandma and not by your parents? Was she "very nice and upstanding" too? lol

Nothing

Why were you suffering from PTSD then?

They were very nice and upstanding people. So there goes your theory.

No way, you must be in denial lol

practically I was raised by my grandma

Why not by your parents?

whinny and complaining.

Was your mother and grandmother "whinny and complaining"?

I had a very happy childhood.

What happened to you then?

She is a woman that exchangeable.

What?

You should just listen and let her vent in peace

That's what I did.

very tempted to knock my father down on a few occasions

Yeah, that sounds like a very "respectable" father lol
Sorry, Iron, but my guess is they must've been some really nasty people.

Life / Polish people and TV Series - so good and hilariously spot on :) [99]

so far it has more to do with leftists perception and perspective of modern day Poland and issues they think are unaddressed or ignored by rightists

Nope, it is about III RP that is obvious. Haven for commies and losers

You guys confuse me :D

Polish folk songs were used in "1670" :) - here's a folk song from the Lublin area called "Kare konie" ("Black Horses"):

When I was watching the dance scenes with those Polish folk songs I couldn't help but think of "Witcher"... Some Poles on the internet commented that they wish the "1670" team made Netflix's "The Witcher" instead of Americans and I can understand this sentiment :)

As to the 1670- I love how pretty it is. Being raised Polish I never realised how truly pretty the outfits etc were

I did realise that before! But watching "1670" made me think again that those times in Polish history would be great for quality costume TV series like "The Tudors", etc.
